Report: Haynesworth tried to get teammates to come late to practice

According to a report by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune and NFP, Redskins defensive lineman had designs on doing more than just showing up late for Redskins practice on Christmas Day.

Biggs reports that Haynesworth tried to get other members of the Redskins to arrive late to work on Friday as a protest of the early start time for practice. The team wanted to get practice over as early as possible to allow players and staff to spend time with their families on the holiday, but it seems Haynesworth disagreed with that choice.

(Perhaps he was up late enjoying cookies and milk left out for St. Nick at his house.  And at 100 or so others.)

Haynesworth was sent home by the team when he arrived an hour late on Friday. Haynesworth responded by blasting the coaching staff for using him incorrectly and said that the team needed someone to lead them in the right direction.

The Redskins have said that Haynesworth will play on Sunday night against the Cowboys, but it remains to be seen whether additional discipline will be imposed on him in light of his conduct.

It seems that the Redskins are slowly slipping into a bad habit that we did not have to contend with when Joe Gibbs was around, which is acquiring players with questionable characters. Except may be when Gibbs traded for Brandon Lloyd.
Also heard reports that a veteran player said his teammates are ticked at Albert and that he’s a “Jerk”. The report said teammates wouldn’t talk to him during today’s walkthrough, especially those on the D-Line.
That is not a good sign at all. Hopefully the regime change will help alleviate these problems.
I mean the guy does have a point, but he doesn’t have to prove it, especially knowing that the current coaching staff will only be around for another 2 weeks, tops.

Haynesworth is an ignorant person. You get paid millions upon millions of dollars by the Redskins. If the Redskins tell you to get your butt to work by a certain time….you do it and say “Yes Sir.” Try walking a mile in a normal blue collar workers shoes Albert…for the same pay. You will then wish you would have the opportunity to get to work early on Xmas day in a Redskins uniform. Get over yourself

I am a Redskins fan, my family has had season tickets since RFK. I did not think this year could get any worse. I feel bad for Zorn, and Snyder is a douche. I just wish this nightmare would be done already. Please Mr. Shanahan, I beg of you please turn this team around or I will feel like I have wasted 40 years of my life. If its not asking to much Mr. Snyder, just let him. Pay the man and let him be.

Every NFL team practices or plays on Christmas. Fat Albert knows this. To complain about the time of day is not his place as a supposed leader of men – not!
Dear Fat Albert, the workers at the gas station, convenience store, and the crew that clear your driveway work on holidays. For the money you are TAKING you should step up and do your job.

  11. TheBeave says: Dec 26, 2009 6:08 PM

This just shows how big of a joke NFL coaches are, even nice guys like Zorn. You can’t get by without a practice on Christmas day? let the players spend time with their families. Have practice on Mondays which is normally an off day. Do something other than force your players and staff to come to work on Christmas.

Inmates running the prison (as Fat Albert would have one think). These egomaniacs are so out of touch. I agree with the first poster.
If you aren’t the one signing the paychecks (or delegated such authority) you jump and say yes sir to whatever your boss says. And in today’s environment maybe do a hail mary that you still have a job. Albert is an “un-intelligent” person that has little regard for others. I wonder what his IQ is? LOL. I guess we’ll find out after football, and after he blows all that money DannyBoy is “giving” him.

I really can’t believe how much this franchise has fallen since I left town in 1998. Not even a broadcast by the likes of the late great Glenn Brenner nor George Michael could make this bearable. I think even Brenner himself would be at a loss to find humor in this unless you look at the picture as a whole…A whole joke that is…At one time this franchise had pride. Older Redskin fans will remember Raphel Cherry back in 1985. This guy was a young hard hitter in the secondary. For some reason, he was cut loose by the team the next year. Well, Cherry is now in the Arkansas Department of Corrections league…Character DOES count…

  42. phildo says: Dec 26, 2009 7:38 PM

maybe he’s upset in the way the defense calls the plays and wants it more ala the offense
first the play is radioed in from the window at McDonalds.. then it is sent to Synder so he can make sure he has his say in it… then it is sent via telegram to Zorn who doesn’t understand it and hands it to Graham Gano.. Graham then gives it to the black indian mascot chief Z who Rooney Rules it to London Fletcher who reminds the safeties to bite on every double move.. Finally it gets to Haynesworth, who is too tired to bother with it as he lays on the sideline while a cheerleader jump starts his heart

It is certainly becoming obvious that the Titans were much smarter than the Redskins when it came to shelling out the big bucks for Haynesworth. The only reason he didn’t act so badly in TN was because Fisher, the other coaches and the other veterans wouldn’t tolerate it.
Now that he has all this money, I guess the coaches and veterans opinions don’t matter.
Thanks Redskins for taking his bad attitude before it affected the Titans.

Whats wrong with you people? the coaches wanted to get the practice in early so that everyone can go home and spend time with the family. There are plenty of people stuck working on Christmas day. i guarantee you none of them make $100 mil a year.
when the coaches tell you to show up for practice, you show up. Period. Dont like it, then go flip burgers at McDonalds, because thats what this reject would be doing if he wasnt playing football. for $100 mil a year, I would be out there bright and early. and lets face it, this team needs the extra practice. Trying to get other teammates to show up late is the textbook definition of Conduct Detrimental to the Team. Suspend him and let him miss the rest of the season. Theyre not playing for anything anyway so theres no reason to not make a statement here.

He may have been a very good player in a good system, but now that he is in a bad system he is average at best which goes to show, maybe it has to do more with the guys around him making him look better than he is.

Why is Favre pronounced “Farve” and Favreau pronounced “Favrow?” Both have French ancestry, so the names are probably related. If you’re asking who cares, remember that Jon Favreau was Eric the Clown on Seinfeld. A Seinfeld reference is all that’s needed here for relevance.

Don’t know about this, but am sure Haynesworth would try to get his teammates to show up late for team lunch. He would be on time though. Give the fat ass a chance to pick over the prime grub. What a loser.

This is why NFL contracts should not be guaranteed, as it is now. Because most NFL players are street thugs thrust into superstardom and millions upon millions of dollars overnight. They are so unpredictable doing anything from murder to complaining about having to practice on Christmas…and basically getting paid about $50,000 to do it.

If you do not have any class, at least show some pride in the fact you are a professional football player. Do your job.

Albert Haynseworth is a fat turd. Did anybody really expect anything different from a guy with a bad attitude and a history of only playing when it’s time to get paid?
I think most people that visit this site could have told you that this guy is nowhere near worth the contract he got.
The only upside to this guy is that you can expect a dominant force once it comes time for another team to be looking at him… that is if there’s another team with a stupid enough front office to waste their time.

Stop blaming your stupid owner. Your team sucks because you are in DC. Bunch of pricks live in DC so suck it up and go back to your hometown you bunch of idiots. Nobody is from DC. Its not even a real town. F the DC sport teams.

Im surprised no one ever compares Haynesworth to former Packer Gilbert Brown. They do the same thing which is clog up the middle make 1 or 2 standout plays then go puke on the sideline. Very valuable to have on your team because they make those great plays but should never be the highest paid player on your team let alone the league. Dan Snyder deserves what he gets with the way he rolls.
hossman-people from MD and VA and even NC root for the skins…they have more history and tradition than like 30 other teams….i doubt the team sucks just cus its in DC….people blame the owner cus he IS the rich prick…not the fans
ps…Pervy U still are not funny
