With 142 yards rushing and 37 yards receiving on Friday night against the Chargers, Titans running back Chris Johnson has moved to within 74 yards of the all-time single-season record for yards from scrimmage.
The record, set by Rams running back Marshall Faulk ten years ago, is 2,429. Johnson has 2,355.
And with a 15-game total of 1,872 yards rushing, Johnson needs only 128 against the Seahawks to crack the 2,000-yard mark. With 234 yards, he’ll break the single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards.
Browns receiver Josh Cribbs, with two games left to play, has a shot at breaking the all-time record for single-season all-purpose yardage, which includes rushing, receiving, kickoff returns, punt returns, fumble returns, and interception returns. The record currently is held by Ravens receiver Derrick Mason, who established the mark in Tennessee nine years ago with 2,690.
Cribbs has 2,336 yards — his current per-game average of 166 would put him at 2,669.
Chris Johnson is the man…and will be for a long time to come!!
Merry Christmas
Chris is one heck of a player. Cribbs too.
hope they get the records.
FIRST NAME: PAY, MIDDLE NAME: DA, LAST NAME: MAN! PAY DA MAN
Both guys are phenomenal. As a Rams fan, I’d hate to see Faulk or Dickerson’s records broken, but if they are going to be broken, I’d want Chris Johnson to do it.
With the Titans out of the playoffs look for the Seahawks to get a steady dose of Johnson running the ball down their throats.
If the Browns don’t give Cribbs the money, and I mean Da MONEY, and lose him somehow, they will look like the biggest bunch of idiots to ever grace the NFL. I don’t understand what the hell they are waiting for. Holmgren’s first order of buisness should be to tear up Cribb’s current deal and give him a new one that will make him a building block for the Browns future.
“Cribbs has __2,336__ yards — his current per-game average of 166 would put him at 2,669″
Does he have 2536 yards?
Cribbs has 2,336 yards — his current per-game average of 166 would put him at 2,669. huh? 2336+166=2502???
ah he has 2 games left, my bad. note to self: get coffee before thinking in the morning
Cribbs is the brightest spot and best athlete on the beloved, even if down for now, Browns. He is a freak of nature who proves ONCE again, all the scouting and arrogance of “experts” misses many huge NFL wonders who walk on to teams and fight for a spot as Cribbs did in 2005.
Why couldn’t this dickwad have this type of game last week when I lost my FF playoffs by a few points. He cost me a couple hundo, I hope he doesn’t break either record!
Unfortunately all teams have to do is kick away from Cribbs and that pretty much neutralizes his return yards. I can’t see him getting many handoffs since Harrison had that game last week. He might get some catches, and since Anderson is in they might be for more than 10 yards.
you DON’T give kick returners top $$$$, IF he could generate consistent yards from scrimmage AND return kicks you’d have to break out the check book.
Cribbs is a real nice special teams player, just like Dante Hall was an MVP candidate 6-7 years ago and since in the words of Mike Tyson “faded into Bolivia”
Cribbs is sick but I seem to remember another return man that absolutely dazzled us, got his money, then went bust because when you pay a guy like that you have to start using him all over the place or management freaks out. Dante Hall anyone? Don’t get me wrong… Cribbs is more durable and long term but they need so much help everywhere else it would be silly not to move him for picks. But wait… nobody will trade for him because none of the other GMs want to overpay a return guy either. Good luck Mikey Holmes.
Wow talk about bad timing. section128′s comment wasn’t even up when I chimed in the first time… now it looks like I get an F for plagiarism… needless to say I agree with you sir. Nice work.
For all of you non-Browns fans who do not have the chance to see Cribbs play every week… to call him a “return man” really does not do him justice, and I’m not talking about what he does out of the Wildcat.
The dude is also the leading tackler on special teams and has been for several years.
Dante Hall, Devin Hester…. good players but can’t hold a candle to Cribbs.
I’m not saying he deserves Manning or Brady money, I’m just saying…….. he is the best player in the NFL in an often-overlooked facet of the game.
Mr. Florio, I would appreciate if you could integrate Cribbs nickname (Pay Da Man) into all of your stories about him.
Love watching both of these guys. Good for them. I see a lot of people screaming that they need to break the bank for Cribbs and I don’t agree, but the man can play ball.
About 37 carries 187 yards . I love that guy but he will fall a little short, about 60 yards away from 2105. Will pass Marshall faulk by half time. yards from scrimage.
I don’t think you need to break the bank for Cribbs, and don’t think he wants the bank to be broken, he just wants an upgrade to an undrafted rookie contract, and I think we can all agree that he has earned it.
He very well could have pulled a diva routine this year with the Mangina pulling the crap he did early in the year, but put his nose down and continued to work, and the statistical results speak for themselves.
The guy is not only a very good all around football player, but he is also a class act, and someone I would love to have on my team. I follow another AFCN team so to compliment a Browns player takes a special guy, because usually they are all just a joke to the rest of the division.
Thanks Coop. I had no idea he was quite that important on the other side of the ball. I knew I liked him for not giving in the holdout game that a lot of pre-madonna young guys fall into but the fact that he makes a significant difference to 3 aspects of the game is pretty impressive. As a Steelers fan I wouldn’t mind seeing him go.
