Lions sign Patrick Ramsey

The Lions signed veteran quarterback Patrick Ramsey to fill the roster spot left open when Matthew Stafford was placed on injured reserve.

Ramsey was with the Titans until October when they released him to make room for defensive back Cary Williams. Ramsey subsequently tried out for several teams, including the Giants and Steelers, but remained unemployed until Saturday.

While he doesn’t figure to play for Detroit this season, Ramsey could make himself a contender for a spot as a veteran backup for Stafford in 2010. Or he could just earn a couple of weeks of salary before hopping back on the league’s quarterback carousel.

Ramsey and fellow former first-round pick Daunte Culpepper will back up Drew Stanton when the 2007 second-rounder makes his first career start Sunday against the 49ers.

  1. Word is Daunte will be in Green Bay next season. Ted Thompson is very interested and feels he could thrive as Packer.

  2. Amazing how everyone was saying they Lions couldn’t protect Stafford and they shouldn’t play him because he couldn’t finish the season healthy were right.

Where is it on this post that the Packers are mentioned? Or the Vikes for that matter. You’d best be worrying about Monday nite. That new “boy” of yours don’t like cold weather.

  4. This guy had what appeared to be a promising career in Washington until Steve Spurrier introduced him to a new offensive scheme that provided zero protection to the QB. Ramsey spent Sunday afternoons on his back staring at the sky and Spurrier collected his money and went back to the college ranks.
No one said life is fair, but I’d like to see Ramsay succeed somewhere.

  5. ramsey isnt that bad. spurrier did destroy him.
i see a lot of guys like that having real second acts.
but it’s a peecee league. so we will get to see ookie fail again first.

  6. just got off the phone with dan snyder. he says he’ll give detroit 3 first rounders and pay him 100 million to come back…………..

  7. “This guy had what appeared to be a promising career in Washington until Steve Spurrier introduced him to a new offensive scheme that provided zero protection to the QB.” An offensive scheme that provides zero protection for the QB? The words of an idiot.

    _____
“the words of an idiot”? You must be a real *uckin genius, there aren’t many people who call Sonny Jurgenson an idiot.
Or maybe your screen name is really Steve Spurrier.

  9. No, Brewster is 100% correct. Spurrier’s idiocy ruined Ramsey. Kid had a lot of guts and a lot of talent and it was all wasted.
