Brian Brohm will see the first regular-season action of his NFL career today when he starts at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills against the Atlanta Falcons.
Brohm has only been with the Bills for six weeks, but with both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards suffering ankle injuries last week, Brohm is the next man up. And some Bills fans are excited about seeing what he can do.
“Yeah, it seems like the new guy is always the favorite guy among the fans,” Brohm told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. “I just want to get out there and perform well for the guys on this team, for the coaches, just want to go out there, do my job, and perform well.”
Brohm was cut by the Packers in training camp and then re-signed to their practice squad before the Bills signed him to their active roster.
“It’s been interesting,” he said. “Six weeks ago I was at practice for Green Bay and I had no clue that I was going to be in Buffalo that night. Since then, the plan I don’t think was to get me in this year, but things happen so I’ve been trying to stay ready, trying to pick up the offense as fast as I could.”
We’ll see today whether six weeks is long enough for a quarterback to pick up an NFL offense.
Should be interesting. Among the fans in Atlanta, a big debate of that draft was Brohm or Ryan.
Fans are a little down on Ryan right now, who just had to go through the ” we want Vick” chants.
If he can drag his big toe onto the field, if Brohm performs better and wins, it may get ugly for ol’ face takes a pounding.
Hope he does well. The last thing the Bills need is more mediocre QB play.
At leas his gloves won’t look out of place in this weather. Have to hope he looks better than his dismal preseason appearances in Green Bay.
“T.O. just do not draw the double team.”
Aaaand I’ll now be taking Atlanta in my survivor pool.
Didn’t they fire offensive coordinator 2 weeks before the season and accuse him of drawing plays up in the dirt?
If that is the case he should be ok.
Luckily, the Bills haven’t been running an NFL offense all year.
not to wish ill-will against anyone (not in vikings uniform) but this kid is the closest thing to a “bust” that I’ve ever seen for a 2nd round QB draft pick ever taken by Ted Thompson & the Packers.
His passes were always high and late…. and he could never distinguish himself as being better than a 3rd stringer.
Good Luck Bills, just don’t expect much.
Among the fans in Atlanta, a big debate of that draft was Brohm or Ryan.
hahhahhhahahahahahahhahahahahaha…..J.O!!
Interesting to see how he does. He is yet another failed draft pick from Packers overrated GM Ted Thompson.
Brohm’s starting? Well then let me give my prediction; Final Score: Atl 98 Buff 3
He doesn’t have to worry about running an NFL offense, he is running the Bills offense. Big difference, NFL offenses score points consistently.
So, since he is the third string QB, and the other two are hurt and can not play, who do the Bills have to play QB if this guy gets hurt? I am curious. Could be an interesting game!
Hope he does well — good luck to the kid!

In hindsight, it’s a fairly laughable thought that there was any debate. But…you’re probably forgetting that Brohm had just took Louisville pretty far while being a heisman contender, and his head coach, Petrino, just took over in Atlanta. There was a lot of thought that he’d draft Brohm and go somewhere else with the early pick.

The guy sucks and to make matters worse, he blames the lack of confidence in him as the reason he sucks. He somehow doesn’t draw the logical conclusion the reason they had no confidence in him is because he sucks in the first place.
I don’t wish ill will on anyone but so far to date, Brohm has shown nothing to indicate that he will be anything remotely close to being an average NFL QB.
Irony is the great leveler.
So-called “Fan of Football” proclaims that “He (Brohm) is yet another failed draft pick from Packers overrated GM Ted Thompson.”
But overrated Thompson also selected Matt Flynn of LSU in the 7th round of the same draft. Flynn is the guy who beat out Brohm!
Meanwhile, chunky soup sales above reminds us “Among the fans in Atlanta, a big debate of that draft was Brohm or Ryan. Brohm still is looking good to folks down in Atlanta.
Good luck, Brohm. You didn’t get a fair shake in GB.
Of all the dumbass moves that Thompson has ever made, this one bugs me the most. He will continually stick with Harrell despite all evidence suggesting that he was a bust. But Brohm got 1 season as a 3rd stringer, and is gone? His 2nd round status should have been enough to buy him another season of coaching from a supposed QB genius in Mike Maccarthy.
If he’s a bust, he’s a bust. But I’m just saying that there was no where near enough evidence to cut him loose after just 2 preseasons. He was a high profile, high draft pick, not some UFA the Pack pulled in from a Div III school.
Why not? I remember thinking Brohm would be a servicible starting NFL QB when watching him in college…which is better than what the Bills have up to now. Hey, the Bills stuck up for Cleveland when Baltimore stole our team, so I’m always hoping they do well.

WRONG. A big debate with that draft with the 1st round pick of 2008 was Matt Ryan vs. Glenn Dorsey. Brohm had moved quite far down the totem pole of draft status while the likes of Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Chad Henne ascended higher than Jonathan Babineaux operating a motor vehicle. The second round pick was traded to move back up into the 1st round for T Sam Baker who looks to be a fine pick at that spot (& despite his injuries) after being projected as a early to mid 2nd round pick. Brian Brohm stayed in school in 2007 when Petrino was head coach of the Falcons before Bobby Quitrino in December of 2007. Brohm coulda been a top 10 pick in ’07 if he came out. Brohm was picked & prodded by Thomas Dimitroff & Mike Smith & staff along with the other QB’s in the ’08 draft but Matt Ryan was the ONE, son.
A comment made by Mike Florio earlier this year in passing was that Arthur Blank highly encouraged Dimitroff to draft Ryan to move away from the Michael Vick scooba dooba is false. Dimitroff looked in around and through Matt Ryan and said “Yeah, you’re the ONE.” The draft needs were many and great in early 2008 but things will work out fine in 2009. I mean 2010, a big fat hen.
Brohm did well considering the lack of a run o-line. His screens and quick throws were very fun to watch. Just need an experienced o-line. Too bad injuries have devastated the Bills. Nothing is gained.
I HATE BRETT FARVE!
But with saying that he did play less then a week after he signed with the Vikings. Then he won 5+ straight games to start the season.
So if Brohm wants to be a QB in the NFL he better be able to pick up an NFL offense in 6 weeks.
