Coughlin: "I'm at a loss for words"

The Giants defensive line and some hopeful fans convinced themselves after last week’s win that their 2007 magic may be back.

Unfortunately, they can’t face the Redskins offensive line every week.

The Giants were manhandled on both sides of the ball, but it was especially telling how Carolina pushed New York’s defense around up front without two Pro Bowl tackles.

After the game, Tom Coughlin had no excuses for the performance.

    How ’bout these words coach?
    Gutless?
    Embarrassing?
    Overrated?
Feel free to use those 3 words during your press conference on Monday. If I think of any more, I’ll get back to you.
Good luck the rest of the way.

I don’t want to hear anyone blame Coughlin for what went down today. He is a tremendous coach that does nothing but put his team in a position to win. It’s not his fault that the players played like absolute shit today. I can’t believe a reporter questioned his ability to lead this team as well, what a joke. If any coach is at fault, blame Sheridan, bring back Jon Fox is he’s fired by the Panthers!

The Giants sure didn’t play like they wanted “it”. They looked like a team that came out flat and disinterested.
“Mumbles” Manning’s leadership skills are severely lacking. He doesn’t seem to have any leadership qualities whatsoever. He doesn’t seem to have the ability to motivate players around him.

the old idiot should have never hired sheridan then he shouldnt have defended him and refused to fire him when it was obvious the man was an inexperienced incompetant

Bill Sheridan should be handing out towels at the local SHERATON. The team was clueless all year, even before the injuries started. He sucks period. Al Groh is available lets take him.

I’m not at a loss for words, the Giants suck. It’s that simple. Have fun with a mediocre team for the next 10 years. After Strahan and the d coach left, they lost their leaders and good coaches. As a Cowboys fan, this is a Great Christmas!!!

  18. Ken1313 says: Dec 27, 2009 7:42 PM

gianstage…remember…the fans questioned Coughlin in 2007….they wanted him fired…right up until the Super Bowl win……then they decided he was a good coach after that. He IS a great coach…as you said..the players are the ones who win or lose these games when they play that bad

  19. Kiss Bills Rings says: Dec 27, 2009 7:43 PM

Hey Coughlin, try “WE SUCK” & then I think your loss for words would be solved…

  20. Woody Paige says: Dec 27, 2009 7:46 PM

Me too Tom me too. None of the coaches are to blame, Coughlin is an outstanding hard-nosed coach. I put full responsibility on the players for the way in which this season withered away. At some point coaches have to stop coaching, and players have to start playing. We need to get our mojo back.

Hey Florio, Giants postseason hopes still look super bright for you?

  22. meezle says: Dec 27, 2009 8:03 PM

I’m an eagles fan and will admit that coughlin is a good coach. He has done a lot of little talent and this loss today was more about the players then the scheme. It was just one of those games…
Plus, let’s not take anything away from the panthers who did the same thing last week, maybe they are better than anyone thought

  23. Hugh says: Dec 27, 2009 8:32 PM

The Panthers are not as bad as Florio and everyone else think.
    But the Giants do suck.

  24. G-MEN TO THE SB says: Dec 27, 2009 9:46 PM

i was utterly disgusted. im a die hard giants fan and i cant honestly say that we do not deserve a playoff spot. what really pissed me off was how the players didnt give a crap. The look on our defensive players was bullshit, they just gave up and no one bothered to rally the team. i expected more from tuck and osi this year, not only in play but leadership. Manning’s leadership was not the problem he actually tried to lecture his team and pump them up, the whole team especially the defense just didn’t give a shit.

  25. G-MEN TO THE SB says: Dec 27, 2009 10:27 PM

sorry i meant i cant say we do deserve a playoff spot

  26. Jerry's World says: Dec 27, 2009 11:31 PM

Wow, how sad it is to get BLOWN out of your own stadium on your last home game in a shared stadium. HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS, PLAYOFF BOUND!

  27. Adam says: Dec 28, 2009 1:56 AM

G-Men need to make some major moves and get rid of or trade some players and coordinators.
Ironic that at the start of the season, the giants D Line and O Line were strong, while the WRs were doubted. Now it’s flipped upside down.
Eli is dope with the WR corps, and they’ll get better every year.
Jacobs though…they gotta figure him out. Bradshaw’s good. O Line’s old. Tuck and Kiwi can’t carry the D Line.
    *sigh*
Go Jets! Next year, if Sanchez improves his accuracy, Jets are scary. And Edwards learns to catch.

  28. Naps says: Dec 28, 2009 11:06 AM

Coughlin is not a bad coach but if you take out the Super Bowl season (which erases a lot!) Coughlin’s Giants tenure has been somewhat disappointing. He was on the hot seat and every one thought he was getting fired the year before the super bowl win.
Only good teams the Giants beat were Dallas (twice) and OT win at home against Falcons without Michael Turner & Jeroius Norwood).
Even though this team was surprisingly not good – a team just can’t come up that flat (offensivley and defensively) at home when they NEED the win (against a below average team with a lot of injuries) to make the playoffs. Also, last home game of season and in that stadium. Very disappointing. My guess is Sheridan is gone and Dick Jauron takes over as Defensive Coordinator.
