Cowboys are in the playoffs

The December doldrums have been corrected; now the Cowboys need a playoff win.

They will get a chance to earn one this season after winning 17-0 Sunday night against the Redskins.  The victory means that next week’s Cowboys-Eagles game will decide the NFC East champion.

There is a strong chance the Cowboys and Eagles could play a rematch in the wild card round, but a lot could happen to scramble the NFC seeds between 2-6.

While the seeds are to be determined, the NFC tournament teams are decided.  The Giants will be watching from home.

Whether the Cowboys win the NFC East or not, their peaking pass rush will make them a tough playoff out.  As the Giants showed Sunday, however, it’s risky to draw many conclusions from a performance against Washington’s offensive line.

While the Cowboys defense dominated Sunday night, the offense took care of business.  Their short-yardage rushing struggled, but Tony Romo played another solid game with 286 yards on 38 attempts. Jason Witten and Miles Austin combined for 209 receiving yards.

The Cowboys handled a crumbling opponent, and deserve all the credit for it.  They have already beaten some expectations by making the playoffs. Now the hard part starts.

Cowboys only December loss was close to a red hot Charger team. Philly is in for a tough time in Dallas.

    Ditto on kennadrin’s comment.
I just heard Deion Sanders say on NFL Network that he believes either Dallas or Philly will be in the Super Bowl for the NFC this year.
Dallas is peaking at the right time. They have already beaten the Eagles in Philly and the Saints in New Orleans. Other teams would be foolish to not fear the ‘Boys.

  6. Big Smitty SCPO says: Dec 28, 2009 12:01 AM

Good Luck next week the team you are playing has running backs, receivers, and QB that makes things happen!!!!

  7. scrapdawg12 says: Dec 28, 2009 12:02 AM

What a bunch of frauds. They choke year in and year out and do not deserve the playoffs. They suck. They don’t know who is the coach, philips or jerry jones. I hope they get slaughtered next week like they did the year before and in the first round they get humiliated. It would be a bitter sweet ending to a team that is so over rated.

Sean Suisham outsmarted the Redskins organization…he purposely missed the 23 yard field goal against the Saints so that he would get released and then would sign with the Cowboys because he knew about their kicking troubles. In tonight’s game, kicking in the same direction with the same exact angle and distance, SS made the dreaded 23 yard field goal. I can’t wait until he blows a playoff game for the Cowpies.

  14. Punk_core says: Dec 28, 2009 12:22 AM

Cowboys beat a Saints team that lost to the Bucs today at home a two win team so that win isn’t impressive. Niether is beating a redskins team on the verge of firing the coach after the next game. I hope the cowboys come in with the same confidence you cowboys fans have. Eagles have a lot of leadership on the team and will be ready. I don’t think many people actually fear this cowboys team

  15. Hooby says: Dec 28, 2009 12:28 AM

theyre 2-2 in december. 500. middle of the road. average. not gonna talk about the eagles, but i will say that they need to beat the eagles to make it over 500, not to mention win the nfc east. last year, it was a similar scenario in which they had to beat the eagles to secure a playoff spot. if memory serves, the eagles won by 38 points and then made the nfc championship
not saying its gonna happen again…but this years records and both teams histories reveal a bit

  16. hitman23 says: Dec 28, 2009 12:29 AM

the same saints team that slaughtered the e-gals punk??? dont worry the boys have barf bags on hand at our palace for the choker known as danica mcnabb. ps punk what about r win over the e-gals was that anything to be proud of???

  17. NFLJunkie says: Dec 28, 2009 12:29 AM

Punk_core, nice attempt to discredit the Cowboys. The Cowboys beat a Saints team who lost at home to the Bucs? What about the other 13 teams that they have beaten? Those don’t count because you are a blind hater?
The Redskins always play the Cowboys tough and they just shut them out. What other stupid hate comment do you have?
As a non-biased comment, the Cowboys are looking like a really tough football team to beat right now. Their pass rush has been very strong in the second half of the season and Romo is playing extremely well. I sure wouldn’t want to play them in the playoffs.

  18. Abe71 says: Dec 28, 2009 12:36 AM

Grow up haters. Are you sure you’re even allowed to be on the internet at this time? You guys sound like immature 12 year olds….wait, I know 12 year olds more mature than that. The Cowboys have been playing great and DO deserve to be in the playoffs just as the Eagles and everyone else who’s in it but more importantly, why do you idiots think that what “WE” fans think is what players/teams think? Are you idiots??? Get a grip.

  19. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 28, 2009 12:37 AM

    @ punk core
Of course it’s not impressive to you, but I bet before the NO game, like everyone else you were ready to dance on Dallas grave and were saying they had no chance. The fact is, When Dallas beat them, they were UNDEFEATED and at home. It’s much easier for them to lose again after Dallas put the first one on them. It shook their confidence.
The Cowboys are winning the games they need to win. That is all you can do. The other alternative is to lose the games. But they won them, so have a nice cup of STFU.

  20. Big Smitty SCPO says: Dec 28, 2009 12:45 AM

You talking about about the same Eagles team that Dallas has already beaten in Philly this year? Hmm….ok. I don’t know if any team is more overhyped year in and year out than Philly only to see them choke against good teams. We’re talking about the same team that lost to Oakland right? The same team that didn’t register a TD against the Raiduuuuhs?

  23. kennadrin says: Dec 28, 2009 12:49 AM

I could care less who wins next week if the Vikings win out. If they do a 3rd seed is just as good as a 6th seed IMO for the Eagles.
Winning the division means nothing. The Eagles have won plenty of divisions the only thing that matters is a Super Bowl win.
With saying all that I think the Eagles will win next week. Im just saying it means nothing if its not for a bye week. The Eagles dont need to be home to win.

  31. steventrommm says: Dec 28, 2009 1:01 AM

cowboys are playing the best ball of anybody in the nfl with an exception of the chargers… forget saints losing to TB, they beat the Pats, swept falcs, and crushed the eagles AND giants. Cowboys are the real deal.. rush passer better than anybody else, offensive line can at times shine, romo playing best in his career, list goes on… eagles are NOTHING without the big play. its is rare to see them drive against a quality opponent and punch it in. first win over the eagels was no fluke, cowboys should and will clean house next week.

Looking at my user name its obvious I am a skins fan but man they (skins) suck so Cowboys fans dont judge to much by tonight. I will say though a playoff team is supposed to beat a bad team which is what the Cowboys did. Now the hard part starts for them.

  37. rayg says: Dec 28, 2009 1:05 AM

I’ll take Reid and his coaching staff in the playoffs over Phillips any day.
Week 17 is only the first 4 quarters. The last 4 is what matters.
Although I have a feeling that Reid will dial up two consecutive wins against Dallas.
Dallas was 2-2 in December. Big whoop. Philly? 4-0, and on a 6 game winning streak.

Cowboys are not even close to playing the best ball in the NFL it’s a joke you’re saying that after beating a redskins team that is self destructing. All of the playoff teams are playing better ball than the cowboys. Besides the saints and the Vikings maybe.

Doubt we’ll find out. Romo’s pretty durable (unlike that porcelain doll in Philly that has played only one complete season since 2004). When he starts against the Eagirls next week, Romo will equal McNabb’s mark of playing four 16 game seasons in his career.
Oh and by the way, this is the Cowboys fifth winning season in a row. That equals the very best the Eagirls have done since the 40’s. And they’ve only done it twice since then.

Your team would suck too if you lost 80% of your offensive line including backups. Your first and second running back. Essentially everyone who’s ever been to the probowl on the team is on IR… the list goes on. Poor Jason Campbell and Zorn never stood a chance.

@DrThunder728 — I agree. Honestly, prior to the game I was more concerned against the Skins than against the Saints. In the past the damn Skins always found a way to ruin the Cowboys year. That may have been the easiest rivalry game we’ve had in a decade. Snyder totally screwed Zorn and Campbell and it occurred during the summer. But with Allen and whoever the next coach is I am betting that the Skins will get a lot tougher to beat.

its so sad all the sorry ass eagle fans are hanging their hats on past victories…… its 2009 BITCHES, the eagles dont have a chance next week, dallas is on a good roll right now and nobody can say anything about the way romo is playing, perfect the last 5 games. when its all said and done romo will have a better career than mcthrowuponhimself. romo’s at the beginning of his career and mcnabb is at the end of a better than average career with no superbowl rings.

Another example of the quality education system in Philly. Which P.S. were you pushed through, slappy? Was it P.S. 13-9 or P.S. 20-16?

You prove once again the depth of Eagle fans stupidity.

  79. cowboys1 says: Dec 28, 2009 10:41 AM

how can eagle fans talk crap about the saints losing to the bucs when THE EAGLES LOST TO THE RAIDERS. Does that discredit philly?

  80. Hap says: Dec 28, 2009 10:50 AM

    44-6 ?
How about THIS YEAR at The Linc, pal ? 20-16, Cowboys .
Or should I say 13-9, The Raiders ?
    Please.

@DallasDeathStar — Is there a known depth to Eagirls fans stupidity? I really didn’t known that it was quantifiable or solvable yet. I bet it was a Texan that figured it out…to much math for a Eagirls fan.

  82. cowboys1 says: Dec 28, 2009 10:55 AM

wow the eagles have to reach back to when it wasnt even called the superbowl. ahahahahahaha!!! LAST YEAR WAS YOUR LAST CHANCE EAGIRL FANS!!!

  83. howiseeit says: Dec 28, 2009 11:08 AM

@eagles_2031 — This next Sunday is the Cowboys SB? How would an Eagirl fan know what a SB feels like? Ohhh, that’s right. You guys have been there before. And did you win any? How did that turn out for ya? Did msNabb get a tummy ache and choke?

Oh and by the way, this is the Cowboys fifth winning season in a row. That equals the very best the Eagirls have done since the 40’s. And they’ve only done it twice since then.

That’s awesome! With a track record like that, they must have won at least one playoff game in that time span….right???

Anyone who has to ask what a sheeple is shouldn’t be calling out other people for living in their basement.
Sheeple=people who follow other’s actions rather than developing thier own opinions. Like sheep following each other around and playing follow the leader.
Man, I thought a Vike/Packer thread brought out some haters. At least there is some semblance of intelligent football tralk occassionally. All I see here is eagirls, cowgirls, iggles, cowpokes, infantile name calling and people either living in the past or complaining about people living in the past.
There’s a big game next week folks. Several of them actually but I suppose the Cowboys/Eagles would be the one everyone here is concerned about. Super Bowls in the 90’s don’t matter, 44-6 doesn’t matter, the previous game this year doesn’t matter. The next game is what’s important.
Rosenthal & florio just keep riling up the 4th graders & collecting the hits. Pathetic.

Ps. Before evoking all that hick rage and doing something to your hick kids and wives that you might regret, please rember that it’s not them you are angry with. It’s all them blacks and gays taking over your country.

fans are passionate about their teams and thats cool. some of you should stick to reading and not posting though.
its harder to go into someone else’s barn and a win so the nod has to go to dallas, not to mention they’ve already beaten them.
anyone notice mcnabb hobbling at the end of that game? someone pull a hammy? no starting center either. i’d hate to think the cowboys beat the shit out of philly because of injuries, not because they’re a better team. we’ll see.
that whole argument about the bucs beating NO so it diminishes the cowboys win, are you f*ckin kiddin me? so the 13 other teams couldn’t get it done and all of the sudden NO is overrated? stupid logic.

They looked awesome going 13-0 And thrashing the Eagles in Philly 48-22.
Then again, The Eagles made the Raiders look awesome.

“Trivia: Who won the Championship during the Cowboys inaugural year?”
You meqan a team that had been around since the 30’s actually won a title in the Cowboys first year in 1960? Wow!! And just imagine, they didn’t even have to win ANY play-off games to get to that championship. Must have been tough. Maybe even Mcnabb could have kept his lunch down
And just imagine, 1960 is the last championship the Eagles won.
I don’t think I would be bringing that up.

Vox, you must be hanging out with nate newton and irvin smoking pot and doing lines. it is so funny how you appear only when your loser team wins. badwagon jumper for sure, but not to fear i am sure after this sunday you will dissappear again. fact is the cowgirls are going to lose. if you want to talk about the saints some more how about those lowly giants, who by the way beat you TWO times. you know the same giants we beat twice, the same giants who blew out the skins , then lost to the panthers yesterday. if romo is so good where are the playoff wins, you rag on mcnabb for the same things and durablitly but fact is if mcnabb goes down we can still make a run. who is your backup again? the eagles are going to throttle the girls on sunday. everyone knows it. you can talk about this and that just like last year and once again you will lose. romo will choke liek he always does….always.

  97. paranoidandroid says: Dec 28, 2009 5:05 PM

unless that shitty team that lost to the raiders shows up and then we’ll be talkin about another eagle let down. my guess is thats how it will play out.
they surely didn’t look explosive against a bronco team that couldn’t get out of first gear. that game was nothing to hang your hat on.

@You Lose – ?????. WTF are you talking about? You do know that this is a football blog, right? Obviously a Mensa candidate like yourself has a real good understanding of all of the sociological conditions in a state that you have probably never visited. But then I guess living in your Mom’s basement and on welfare gives you time to explore the internet to truly get a understanding and appreciation for Texas.
    ————-
By the posts on this board, why would you need or want to visit Texas? It’s clearly a backwater hellhole populated by churlish pussies who hide when things aren’t going their way and run in your face screaming about how awesome they are when they’re doing well. Or, see: George W Bush.
Also, google “Vox Veritas” and just LOOK at that Myspace page! The people there are all really that ugly.
