McKay gets five-year extension in Atlanta

Two years ago, Rich McKay looked to be on the outs in Atlanta.  After all, he was the G.M. who gave quarterback Mike Vick a $100 million contract — and McKay was the president of an organization that had no idea Vick’s hobbies included killing dogs for sport.

But even though McKay was bumped out of the General Manager role, he remained in his position as team president.  And he apparently has done well enough in that role to justify a new contract.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that McKay has signed a five-year contract extension, and that the deal will be announced on Monday.

But this doesn’t necessarily take McKay off the market for any G.M. jobs that might become open elsewhere.  Since he doesn’t possess final say, he could be in play for a position that offers such authority.
