Report: Ed Reed will return this week

For the second straight year, the Raiders could knock a team out of a playoff spot in Week Seventeen.  (Although we doubt John Harbaugh will subsequently be fired and join the Monday Night Football crew.)

Oakland’s upset bid became a little more daunting Tuesday with the news that Ravens safety Ed Reed is expected to return to the lineup.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports Reed is planning to play, barring setbacks to his hip injury.  Reed has missed the last four weeks.

Reed will try to pick off passes from Charlie Frye, who should benefit from Tom Cable’s exceptional coaching of quarterbacks.

    If you listen to the talk shows in B-more, a lot of people want Zbikowski to play instead of Reed. They think Zbikowski is more disciplined, and allows the corners to know they are getting help.
    Very interesting, but maybe just a coincidence that the secondary has played better since Reed went down?

    No. Reed was out there when we blew out Denver and kept Indy and SD out of the endzone.
    It is good to have some DB depth, bu thte secondary is playing better bbecause Landry and Foxworth are playing a lot better and Walker and Carr have been a lot bette than they were early on.

    It just shows how bad the Bmore education system is (btw – i’m from Bmore)…..only morons would want to start a Zman over a HOF’er.
    R-O-B-L-O-N-G is just trying to get people riled up.
    I like Zbi in the future and he filled in admirably, but c’mon…..Ed Reed does stuff no one else can even see. He is a TD machine on Defense and that is game changing.

    I am def in favor of Reed coming back. I haven’t heard anyone say they want Zibby to start over Ed. That’s ridiculous!!

    Big deal. Dude is way overrated.
    The only thing that has saved the Ravens season is getting to play Pittsburgh at home without Roethlisberger playing. Otherwise, chalk up another loss to an overrated Ravens team. They “should” beat the Raiders, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t. If they win, we all get to watch them travel to New England so they can get their doors blown off.
    BTW, Zbikowski sucks.

    @bornman3
    yeah right. Ravens fans want Reed to REST another week so he’s ready for the playoffs. NOT because they think the defense is better without him. You’d like to think that they don’t need Reed to beat the Raiders.
    Perhaps the secondary hasn’t played better at all since Reed left. Perhaps they just had the luxury of playing against: Lions, Bears, and Steelers.
    That’s right… I don’t consider ANY of those offenses to be that much of a threat. In case you didn’t notice… Pittsburghs one passing touchdown was when Santonio Holmes(Pittsburgh’s number 2 receiver) was, for whatever reason, guarded by both safeties(not a corner). Both got beat on the play which resulted in a touchdown.

    True story, I was watching the Steelers-Ravens game this week and when the cameras flashed to Reed on the sidelines, my beautiful bride-to-be literally said, “Geez…. Who is THAT? He looks like a criminal”

    @Katamanduu
    You want to go over “should have been losses?” Then let’s go over “should have been wins”:
    Vikings
    Colts
    Patriots
    Bengals (1st meeting)
    Steelers (2nd meeting)
    So… if you want that 1st matchup between Ravens and Steelers to go down as a loss to Dennis Dixon. I will GLADLY trade you for some of those other games.

  9. DemocratsAreStupid says: Dec 29, 2009 3:36 PM

    I don’t think a defensive MVP and multi pro-bowl player can be considered overrated. you’re just a hater katmanduu

  10. ppdoc13 says: Dec 29, 2009 3:42 PM

    @katmanduu – big talk for a guy whose team lost to oakland, cleveland and the chiefs. as far as the Shitsburg Squealers playing without Jen Rapistburger, thems is the breaks. We didn’t play the last game with 3/4 of our starting defensive backfield and if it wasn’t for stupid mistakes we would have “blown your doors off.” We gave you the game and we all know it. So once you start beating the doormats like you are supposed to, come back and start talking trash.

  11. JohnHarbaugh says: Dec 29, 2009 4:53 PM

    Id be a little bit afraid to sit Reed for two reasons
    1. Dude hasnt played for a few weeks he may be a bit rusty in his first game back which would be the playoffs if we sit him
    2. We arent in yet.

    Reed coming back? Ive heard that every week now

    That’s nothing to be proud of, son. I’m sure her beauty compensates for the apparent lack of intelligence.

    @TheCoop:
    That’s hilarious, because I actually think that my girlfriend has said something similar (specifically “who is that guy? He looks really mean”).

  15. GoBrowns19 says: Dec 30, 2009 12:18 AM

    Haha, the Baltimore Ravens. What a stupid name for a team. Baltimore Colts sounds alot better.

  16. Billy Buckner says: Dec 31, 2009 12:23 AM

    Yeah, said the Browns fan. The team is named after a color, and a shitty color at that. A Browns fan criticizing any team’s name is laughable.
    It’s in reference to Edgar Allen Poe, you fool.
