So when Tony Romo’s getting hounded in the media for being a Celebrity QB and caring more about golf and vacations then football its a great thing when he helps someone on the side of the road. But when Haley gives a guy money hes doing it for PR?
So it was a coincidence when the person Romo helped told people about it but it wasn’t when when the person Haley helped did the same thing.
Hypocrite.

Don’t be so gullible, it’s Christmas season. The time of the year for all feel good stories to be heard.
Try googling Tracy Porter (Saints), Raheem Brock (Colts), Willie Parker (Steelers), Dunta Robinson (Texans) ect. for more nice stories about NFLer’s donating to others this Christmas season as just a few examples.

Fact is, no one commenting above, including Florio, knows how this all went down. It could be a PR move, it could be a guy being nice.
BUT
It is unusual for the receipient to notify the press because someone famous gave him a stack of $20′s. As others had mentioned this sort of things happens often. So it is a reasonable notion to question why this one got publicity. Example, the Parcells story did not come out until they had been interacting for close to a year.
BUT
Its also silly to think this would have any effect as to whether an owner decides he can be a successful coach of his team.
BUT
It is simple to figure out, someone with connections to various high and low profile media outlets and personell should pick up the phone and maybe find out how the KC press became aware of the good deed.
BUT
Maybe a penchant for incomplete research is what caused someone here to be excited about being profiled in the NYTimes.

How is this a PR move? Nothing like taking a good gesture and trying to spin in into something sinister. It’s not like Haley walked up to the guy and said “Hi, I’m Todd Haley, coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Have some money and make sure to tell your friends about my goodwill.” If the guy a) hadn’t called the press afterwards or b) recognized him in the first place, it would have gone unnoticed, which is what Haley probably intended in the first place.

The guy gets crazy angry. Anyone remember last year when he wanted to fight one of his players on the Cardinals sidelines? I’ve seen him get a real demonic angry look when Cassell called for a time out when they played my Raiders. He was dropping the f-bomb all over the place.

Once again Florio, the notion of someone doing something for no other reason than it was Kind, Nobel, Admirable, or just flat out the right thing to do is so foreign to people like you, that everything must have a taint to it. (a Kid deciding that staying in college is the right thing for him, has sold himself short for the coaches sake, in your selfish view)

There’s plenty of stories similar to this floating in KC. Just because your buddy Jason Whitlock doesn’t like Todd Haley, doesn’t mean you need to slant your writing style to tear apart someone’s image without offering an equal share of building the image up when appropriate.
