Two Browns will make it to the Pro Bowl

Despite a season of extreme disappointment, Browns fans have at least one reason to feel good.

Actually, two of them.

Per a league source, left tackle Joe Thomas has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster for the third time in three NFL seasons.

Also, receiver Josh Cribbs will make his second Pro Bowl appearance.  He previously made it onto the roster in 2007.

Now if the Browns could only get a few more players like these two, they might be able to turn things around.

The Pro Bowl rosters officially will be unveiled at 7:00 p.m. ET Tuesday, on NFL Network.

Cleveland is better off trading both. They have bigger holes to fill besides a stinkin KR and a tackle. CJ Spiller, Colt Mccoy, drafting those 2 might help us a lot. Also trading for a WR like Terrell Owens, Dwayne Bowe would help a lot too.

    Fixed your sentence for you.

so your saying the logical choice is to create two more holes?

  4. jibfest says: Dec 29, 2009 5:20 PM

Cleveland is not better trading Joe Thomas. This franchise will be in the basement for quite sometime. Holmgren making the decisions won’t make them better. Cleveland should start over.

    HarrisonHits,
I know Mangini isn’t ever going to win a popularity contest, but why get rid of him?
The Browns are paying Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage still and you think firing a coach(just so they can pay him for doing nothing too) who just beat the Steelers, and is currently on a 3 game win streak is a good idea?
I am a die-hard Browns fan, and I am more optimistic about them than I have been since they have been back.

  6. jibfest says: Dec 29, 2009 5:26 PM

P.S. Watching how the browns are ran sure makes me glad I am an Eagles fan. At least we are competitive and know we will will more than 3 or 4 games. Sure we won’t win the Superbowl but at least our season goes longer than 16 games.

  7. Pack_Attack says: Dec 29, 2009 5:28 PM

Considering Mike Holmgren was fired the one and only time he attempted to function as a GM, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

  8. extreme469 says: Dec 29, 2009 5:28 PM

Trade Thomas and Cribbs? I strongly disagree. My feeling is they need some stars to build around.

Yeah, Sheldon Brown and who is the other? Ronnie? Josh? Oh, you mean two Cleveland Browns? Really?
J/K Browns fans, Thomas and Cribbs are both studs. The rest of your team, eh, not so much.

  10. johnwhodey says: Dec 29, 2009 5:31 PM

Bengals’ Andrew Whitworth got robbed, Joe Thomas didn’t even play every week, and there is no way the Bengals would be making this run if Whit didn’t keep Palmer upright.

  11. Dixon29 says: Dec 29, 2009 5:35 PM

Mike Holmgren is not Cleveland’s General Manager. He is the team president, meaning he will oversee all football operations. He intends to hire a G.M., he would be foolish not to. Do you think he has been out scouting in his first year off in his entire life? Think, then type.

  12. SteelCurtnDee says: Dec 29, 2009 5:35 PM

Trade Joe Thomas?! Jeez I thought Browns fans were smarter than that.
If the Browns were trading him I’d hope the Steelers would offer a 1st and 3rd rounder for him in a heartbeat.

  13. sammm says: Dec 29, 2009 5:35 PM

@scrawdog – Brilliant! Pro Bowl OT’s and all-around players like Cribbs are expendable.

McCoy is nothing more than a career back up. Owens will be a Fa after the season and there is no way the Chiefs will trade Bowe

Hahaha…that guy who wants to deal Joe Thomas is an idiot.
Seriously, after QB, finding an elite LT has to be one of the most difficult players in the league to find. You trade Joe Thomas and you’ll see Browns QB’s getting sacked 60 times a year just like they did from 1999-2006 (pre JT).

  16. Jungle Juice says: Dec 29, 2009 5:40 PM

    Right Crapdawg12.
Bring in a Rookie QB with a backup LT. You must work for the Brown’s front office.

First off, In order for Spiller to be effective or successful(that is, if the Browns draft him), there has to be a left tackle that can create holes and running lanes. Secondly, why would the Browns trade for T.O. when he is a free agent at seasons end?
Coly McCoy isnt even that good at the college ranks, what makes you think he can be a franchise NFL QB?
cribbs is the best player on the Browns…Because of his “stinkin” kick off and punt returns, our pathetic offense was in postion to score…unless he took them to the house.
I cant believe how idiotic your post is…but, I guess you are a living example of freedom of speach…nice work Scrap, eh…not really.
    Go Browns.

Thomas is overrated. He is a good LT, but I don’t think he is better than Marcus McNeil, didn’t have a better year than Whitworth whose team won the division and couldn’t tie the shoes of guys like J.O. or Walter Jones. But he came from the big 10, is white, and well known so there you go…..
I wouldn’t kick him off my team, but I don’t think he is the LT god that everyone makes him out to be.

There is a writer on sportstimeohio.com that pleads for the Browns to trade Joe Thomas also. I want #73 in seal brown and orange for his entire career. Joe Thomas was the best draft pick ever for this franchise.
As far as Cribbs goes… PAY DA MAN!

first off scrapdawg you are an idiot, yeah lets trade are two best players and sign a bunch of stiffs like T.O. who is way past his prime.
second the idiot making the case for the bengals whitworth, look at the stats pal before you state your case.

thomas didn’t play every week? actually you’re right, he didn’t play week 9(bye) or week 17(yet).
Andrew Whitworth couldn’t hold Joe Thomas’ jock, but you’re a bengals homer…

  26. Dawgpound2009 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:02 PM

Trade Joe Thomas and Josh Cribbs so that they can draft Colt Mccoy and/or CJ Spiller? Thomas is one of the best left tackles in football. You are frigging nuts.
They could take CJ Spiller. But Colt Mccoy ? You got to be kidding me ? He seems like Brady Quinn version 2.0 waiting to happen.
Pick Spiller. a top receiver or the best defensive player available. Mccoy isnt going to be much of a pro.

  27. McCormack10 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:06 PM

Cribbs is a game changer, PAY DA MAN. And Thomas is already good and will continue to get better with time… Get out of here with this trade garbage… There are teams that would give up 4 picks for these two… Why? Because they are a lock to be productive… thats a lot better odds than most picks after mid-round 3. Especially if you are talking about Cleveland’s Front Office picking the players.
    Scrap… “Come On, Man!”

  28. Dixon29 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:10 PM

    ppdoc,
Thomas is a top 3 in the league today easy. You obviously haven’t watched him much this year. Nobody gets past him, and he loves to knock people over. Also, you can be the best LT in the league and play for the worst team. The whole “his team made the playoffs” junk is a joke.

  29. daffy87 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:15 PM

Joe Thomas is a beast, one of the best left tackles in the league and this is only his third season. Cribbs is the best kick returner in the league and an offensive weapon as well, it is pure lunacy to think trading them would help the Browns in any way. You don’t get pro-bowl calibur players, then trade them for new guys…you get pro bowl players and you build around them.

  30. RedRight88 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:19 PM

Trade either? Please, you are all delusional. Browns need to trade either BQ or DA and draft Dan LeFevour in the 2nd or 3rd round.

  31. comeondieyoung says: Dec 29, 2009 6:22 PM

Apparently, scrapdawg12 knows less about football than any soccer mom who absorbed the message of The Blind Side: that big fat guy on the left side of the line is actually a really important player, even though he doesn’t carry the ball or score touchdowns.

  32. Dixon29 says: Dec 29, 2009 6:25 PM

I am on board with the draft LeFevour idea.

  33. jibfest says: Dec 29, 2009 6:29 PM

Browns should trade for the Ravens. If I lived in Ohio, I would move somewhere else. Seems like a dreadful place to live.

  34. josecanseco says: Dec 29, 2009 6:45 PM

I agree that the browns should trade Joe Thomas and Cribbs, but only because the poster’s name is scrapdog. I have to wonder why the first part of his name is scrap (does he work at a scrap yard?). Also is he glossing himself a “dog” or is he adopting the whole dawgpound thing. I have to assume he is calling himself dog because he thinks it is cool because if he wanted the whole browns connection he would have gone dawg.
So to recap a guy who possibly works at a scrap yard and calls himself “dog” thinks the browns should trade their two best players and draft a fragile runningback and an over-rated spread qb. Scrapdog play on player.

  35. Deb says: Dec 29, 2009 7:02 PM

scrapdawg12, did you say you want to ditch a Pro Bowl left tackle? And probably the best playmaker on your team?
By all means, send them to Pittsburgh. We need help on o-line and special teams. We understand that it doesn’t do any good to have a great QB if you can’t keep him upright. We figured that out when some team–let me think–YOURS, was sacking Ben EIGHT times. And we figured out the importance of special teams when we wound up last in the league.
Do you work in the Browns front office? Um, you might want to start typing your resume. You’re probably at the top of Holmgren’s bye-bye list.

  36. ppdoc13 says: Dec 29, 2009 7:14 PM

@dixon29 – i don’t think that Thomas is a bad LT. I just don’t think he is the best LT in the AFC. It has nothing to do with my like or dislike of the Browns. I think Cribbs may be one of the most deserving players in the AFC that made it in.
I think Thomas is overrated because of the reasons I stated. I am biased, but I think in a couple of years Michael Oher will not only be starting at LT for the Ravens, but that he will be better than Thomas. He is quicker, more athletic and just as mean. Whether or not that will translate into ProBowl votes is a different matter. I think the voting for the ProBowl has little to do with production and much to do with name recognition. For instance, as much as I love Ed Reed, there is no way in hell he deserved to make the ProBowl this year. He missed too many games in my mind and frankly his year has not been all that great. But Ed is a guy from the U, is well known in the NFL, makes splashy plays that get face time on SportsCenter etc. You don’t the poor tackling and missed assignments because he is busy free lancing.
Again, I don’t think Thomas sucks. I just don’t think he is as good as alot of people make him out to be.

Don’t feed the trolls. ppdoc13 is a Baltimoron with a raging hardon for anything Browns-related, who can’t refrain from spewing his idiocy on pretty much any Browns post–don’t bother trying to reason with him. He’s consumed with hatred for all things Cleveland, and justifies it by pointing to Indy stealing the Colts from Baltimore and citing his jealousy of the Browns franchise receiving “special treatment” from the NFL after his hometown raped ours. I know, it doesn’t make sense to me either, but I’ve had the discussion with him before on these boards. Just let the troll be.

I really never try to insult people that post up here, but that is the most asinine thing I have ever heard some one say in my life!? How in the world do you trade a Left Tackle like Joe Thomas, and you said it like – “oh he’s just a stupid tackle!” Whether its pass blocking or run blocking, he does a hell of a job!

If you don’t believe that Joe T is the best left tackle in the game you don’t have to take a Browns fan’s word for it….go to this site profootballfocus(dot)com. The site watches every play of every game for every player in the NFL (meaning they watch each play 22 times) and ranks them according to their system. It isn’t subjective in any way, just the facts.

You Brownstain fans are really something…Ya beat the Steelers once in 16 attempts and you think your the real deal. Lets try to have a WINNING SEASON before you think your going anyplace. I’d keep both the Wisc. kid and #16 ($)….You need a Shitload of other positions filled and you should get a few in this years draft. WTF…you have about 16 picks don’t ya!!

I take it you mean for draft picks? Sooooo, what are you hoping to get, a very good to great Left tackle? Yeah, hope that comes along in the draft this year. Hmmm, how about the greatest kick returner in NFL history…who can also put up an 80 yard rushing game more than a couple times a year? You are so stupid and the reason good football fans get so pissed at idiots such as you.

  45. GoBrowns19 says: Dec 29, 2009 11:55 PM
