Jets won't sell alcohol in last game at Giants Stadium

Longtime Jets fans believe they are being set up.

The team caught breaks when other wild card contenders lost over the last two weeks.  They caught another big one when Peyton Manning was pulled from last week’s game.

And now the Bengals are expected to rest starters, serving up a playoff berth on a silver platter.

In the mind of some Jets fans, this only means a potential loss will be all the more painful.  J.T. O’Sullivan last second touchdown to close Giants Stadium, anyone?

That would make the depressing close of Shea Stadium look like a party.

Perhaps with that worst possible result in mind, the Jets announced Wednesday night that the team won’t serve alcohol at the season finale.

The decision was made partly because the game is at night.  The team was also concerned with possible fan behavior because it’s final game.

Which just means there will be more drinking in the parking lot.  This should be fun.

I now have a reason to watch what otherwise would have been an awful game… I expect Jet fan to behave as horribly as Philly fan and tear that place down.. There are gonna be fat Jet fans scattered all over town passed out on sewer caps trying to stay warm as they sleep off the booze coma..
These dbags are gonna be all sauced up at kickoff, I cant wait for the trainwreck.. They need to hire Mike Leach as their security director for this one, that dude knows how to handle problems (allegedly).. Some one’s getting hurt, lots of people are going to jail…

doesn’t make much sense to me. you’re already drinking as much as possible because it costs about $28.50 for a beer in any stadium. Just gotta sneak more in now I guess.

  14. Living_Legend says: Dec 30, 2009 10:36 PM

My God, after all those heartbreaking seasons, these fans deserve a drink.

    Funny thing.
Being a Bengals fan in CT, My Pops asked me way back in the preseason if I would like to go to this game. My response was nothing short of “are you nuts?” The final game in the Meadowlands with a bunch of juiced up Jets fans? No way.
Even worse now, because they have all day to get liquored up. I don’t think it will matter much whether or not they sell beer at the game. And on top of that, as we all know, the worst of them will bring flask of some sort anyway. You couldn’t pay me enough to sit in those stands this Sunday evening.

Gee, I’m kinda feelin’ sorry for the Bengals. As a Steelers fan, if we beat the Dolphins, I’ll definitely be rooting for the Bengals to win. But I want them to get out of New York alive, too.

  25. RaiderChile says: Dec 30, 2009 11:39 PM

    Good for the Jets!
I wish Oakland wouldn’t sell to the idiots on Mt. Davis.
Cheap tix are for the losers who get wasted before and during the game only to fight in front of their children and get arrested.
I’ve seen it sooo many times up there in the worst seats of the Coliseum.
What makes me even more upset is the fact that its mostly the latino men too stupid to have some self respect and maintain their composure.
Then those same losers get mad when the cops take them to a secluded spot and kicks there asses! I’ve seen that too.
Better off selling herbs (420) to keep everyone chill and loving the game and each other. No need to lose it over a crappy team of just a game!

  26. JoeSixPack says: Dec 30, 2009 11:47 PM

    Charging $10 a beer isn’t selling. It’s stealing.

  27. hayward giablommi says: Dec 30, 2009 11:55 PM

You know, as reprehensible a reputation as Philly fan has, I don’t ever recall the Eagles banning alcohol sales at their games. The Jesters, on the other hand, have made it a semi-common practice at this point…with good reason, too, given the despicable, often criminal behavior exhibited at Jester games, especially once the sun goes down.
These mouthbreathing, knuckle dragging barbarians who call themselves Jester fans are the worst in all of sports.
Personally, I think the NFL should take things a step further, and just pull the plug on this wretched, disgraceful franchise, and start from scratch somewhere else, like L.A. or Portland or San Antonio.

  28. GoBrowns19 says: Dec 30, 2009 11:55 PM

I have never paid for a beer at a game below 40 degrees. If you can rightfully wear a winter coat into the stadium, you can fit at least 6 beers into it.

  29. Chad D says: Dec 31, 2009 12:36 AM

The reason they are not serving alcohol is because there is none left. The Ginas drank it all prior to the game last week!

  32. cy farnsworth says: Dec 31, 2009 12:54 AM

maybe it has something to do with not wanting a bunch of drunks driving home in the dark, crashing their cars, and suing the team. just a thought?

  33. v4vagiants says: Dec 31, 2009 1:58 AM

take 50,000 people all on different levels of intoxication.. change the atmosphere in the stadium by taking that away. If all the fans are on the same level, the Jets might feel like they have a chance in the playoffs.. with all the good teams in the AFC, wouldn’t it suck to see the JETS there? These “playoff” teams should just try to keep winning.

  34. Hooby says: Dec 31, 2009 1:58 AM

hold on, i heard someone say something about philly fans? scuse me? i couldnt hear you over the stadium cheering their team. we love our team and were rowdy. maybe we did hospitalize a giants fan and maybe there is a rumor that a redskins fan was killed. yeah it sounds awful when you say everything bad about a teams fans but the thing is that eagles fans are more passionate about their team than any other team.
except the raiders. if you say a bad word to them they will kill you and deep fry your body parts.

  36. ACDC84 says: Dec 31, 2009 2:50 AM

That’s alot of lost revenue that coulda gone towards the new stadium. Figure the stadium holds around 75k. Some kids and non-drinkers attend, so to be conservative, let’s say 50k of the attendees spend an average of $50 on beer each. And that’s a VERY conservative estimate. That would equate to $2.5 million, which is likely a $2 million profit or more. Sucks for the Jets. Its a shame that new yorkers suck so bad.

  37. ttommytom says: Dec 31, 2009 2:58 AM

I grew up on the Island and the only thing worse than Jets’ fans are Red Sox fans. Dumb and Dumber. Going to a game at Shea or in NJ (cause I couldn’t get Giants tickets) was like watching a riot waiting to happen. Those people shouldn’t be chewing gum and driving, let alone drinking and driving…

  38. Gelardia says: Dec 31, 2009 3:00 AM

With their hands free of beer, that will mean more snowballs/iceballs fired with deadlier accuracy due to sobriety. Hope the staff is smart enough to clear all the remaining snow from the stands.
They’re probably trying to keep drunken fans from ripping out stadium souvenirs.

  39. Adam says: Dec 31, 2009 3:08 AM

  40. tatum32 says: Dec 31, 2009 3:58 AM

You can’t drink alcohol? How about in the boxes, in suites? Or even if you were sucker enough to pay for SEAT LICENSES for future FIXES and REPLACEMENT players games when there will be a lockout/strike coming?
While on Sunday night watching on national TV in Denver, Houston, wherever, other fans will be cursing out the CORRUPT NFL that allows owners and coaches of teams to TANK games!
What’s worse? Ocho flashing a $1 bill at a ref indicating to Goodell’s brain , he is undermining NFL refs honesty? OR a team purposely throwing a game?
These morons in suits and ties are about to kill the golden goose!

  44. Bob S. says: Dec 31, 2009 6:46 AM

There you have it the slippery slope of Goodell allowing this tanking of games to go on year after year.
and what about the other players on your team?
1- what you think i’m garbage and it’s ok if i get injured?
2- if the team isnt using the best players to try to win why should i play my guts out and risk injury?
3- team concept- oh, so he is more valuable than me?
4- a free agent to be in the spring why should i be out there i might get injured and ruin my only chance i’ll ever get again to make real money.
you cant have teams tank games – it damages the sport.
People are correct to now think that NFL games results and even standings are predetermined just like the WWF.
For this National TV game, there will be anger in each city being eliminated by this FIX! FIX that is what it is – CINCI is trying to lose! Other people who have some morals will be enraged by watching a bullsh– presentation that announcers will be giving you every reason in the world why resting players is smart and NEVER once will say a word of what it does to the credibility or integrity of the league.
Last night on Showtime’s Inside the NFL, all 3 Simms, Collingsworth and Sapp knocked Colts management bad for doing that(as ESPN announcers Schlereth and Bruschi also did-all former TOP players). BUT they will not say a word about the integrity of a league that allows such TANKING of games. Because they all work for the NFL.
And the credibility of the league is being ruined by THEMSELVES!
‘You play to win the game’ – YEAH RIGHT but not in the NFL!

The haters are out in force.
I see the Pats fans, the fish fans and super fan big blew are all worked up today.
Lets clear up a couple of misconceptions though.
I see Hayward is pissing all over himself again about Jet fans. Funny a guy with 100000 posts on this board calling people losers, mouth breathers and such and runs with a name “hayward giablommi” calls other people classless. If you spent the same amount of time working on a career as you spend insulting strangers on a message board….you wouldnt have time to post 65 times a day.
Fish fans…..I don’t speak spanish so I’m not going to address you guys. Its too bad every home game turned into a Marc Anthony concert.
And big blew…..as a season ticket holder, you do know why booze was stopped being served in the Meadowlands for night games right? You do remember all those super classy Giants fans pelting the opposing team with snow balls right?
Jets fans ask girls to show their tits…..Giants fans assault elderly veterans with snow balls.

Uhh no It was a monday might game Jets Dolphins The Jet fans passed around a blowup sex doll in the stands like a beach ball, lit it on fire and urinated on it to put the fire out, all on the Monday Night Football cameras.
As for the jets having the last game Probably because the Giant fans tore Yankee stadium apart after the last game there I was there they had hacksaws for the bleachers.

Some things you just gotta let go, man. Sure it’s great watching these neanderthals go into the season thinking they actually have a chance, only to watch them self destruct and see Jester fans turn on their team and each other.
But I refuse to go to any more Pats games in the Meadowlands as long as the Jesters are playing. It’s just not worth putting up with such subhuman degenerates.

  57. 123456 says: Dec 31, 2009 10:12 AM

    Colin56…anything to back that up?
I have numerous articles on the elderly veteran that nearly lost his sight because Giants fans bombarded him with ice balls and no alcohol being served because of it.
But not one article on Jets fans lighting a blow up doll on fire. In fact…..not one mention of it anywhere.

  58. 123456 says: Dec 31, 2009 10:16 AM

“For example, there is the famous ’snowball game’ of December 23, 1995 in which Giants fans threw both snow and ice balls at San Diego Charger fans and players, one of which knocked the San Diego equipment manager unconscious. More than 200 fans were ejected and over 75 season tickets revoked. The New York Giants then ran an ad in San Diego papers apologizing.”
    You stay CLASSY GIANTS FANS!!!!!

  59. colin56 says: Dec 31, 2009 10:35 AM

I guess you’re too young to remember that. It was in the mid 80′s I guess the archives don’t go back that far. I am a giants psl’er and know that beer was banned from night games before that San Diego DAY GAME I left at half time after getting a block of snow dropped on me from the mezzanine. So why would they ban Beer from NIGHT GAMES when that was a DAY GAME?

Pats fans-Think their team is ordained by god… stuck up to the 10th power
Fins fans- Come from a state where 40% of the population thinks they can avoid pregnancy by drinking bleach
Bills fans- have been horrible for so long, Buff wants to get rid of them, and no one in Canada wants them.
