We mentioned one scenario curiosity Thursday: the Jaguars and Broncos would make the playoffs in a possible eight-way tie in the AFC. Here’s another.
While the Broncos could possibly make the playoffs with a loss, they could also be eliminated before the Jets and Bengals suit up on Sunday night. Here’s how:
Broncos defeat Chiefs
Ravens defeat Raiders
Steelers defeat Dolphins
Texans defeat Patriots
If those results happen, the final wild card spot will come down to the Jets or Steelers depending on Sunday night’s result. (The Ravens are in with a win either way.)
So while the Steelers and Texans can at least buy themselves three hours of hope with victories at 1PM ET Sunday, the Broncos could be eliminated immediately after a win.
Then again, the Broncos could lose and already clinch a playoff berth before the Jets game. Yep, that could happen too the Broncos, Steelers, Texans, and Jaguars all lose.
Now my head hurts.
DENVER BRONCOS
PIT loss + BAL loss + JAC loss or tie + NYJ loss
Denver clinches a playoff spot:
1) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + BAL loss or tie
2) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
3) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + HOU win
4) DEN win + BAL loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
5) DEN win + BAL loss or tie + HOU win
6) PIT loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + JAC loss or tie
7) PIT loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + NYJ loss
9) PIT loss + HOU loss + JAC loss or tie + NYJ loss
10) NYJ loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + JAC loss or tie
Chuck Norris can knock them out today.
Jets win this on Florio.
Edit: Jets win this one Florio.
So basically the Donkos are not getting in.
do the last two guys realize that Florio didn’t post this article lol
Four post seasons and no donkos!?! Things are not good in Dove Valley. Hee-haw!
This is incorrect.
If the above happened, you’d first have a three-team tiebreaker between Baltimore, Denver, and Houston that Baltimore would win, first eliminating Houston via conference record along with Denver then Baltimore defeats Denver with a H2H win.
If the Jets lose and are not in the 9-7 group, then Denver defeats Pittsburgh and Houston on conference record.
If the Jets win, they eliminate Denver by tying conference record and then winning common games 4-1 to 3-2.
This is an error, sorry Greg.
This HEADLINE news story is so incorrect. This explains everything.
3) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + HOU win
Let’s reverse this….
3) DEN win + HOU win (doesn’t matter what the Steelers do) + NYJ loss or tie (which is the SNF game)
This article needs to disappear.
@SBS0311, the head-to-head comes before conference record.
Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.
spyboots, what exactly is your point?
With multiple teams in the same division, you first eliminate all but one division team. That’s where Baltimore defeats Pittsburgh.
Baltimore, Denver, and Houston are then a THREE-TEAM tiebreaker. After Houston is eliminated, it’s H2H with Baltimore and Denver and Baltimore wins.
If Pittsburgh, Denver, and Houston are the three-team breaker, it goes to conference record record.
Denver’s superior conference record wins out.
Please explain to me where your post has any point whatsoever.
