As valuable as DeAngelo Williams is to the Panthers, the last two weeks have shown he may not even be the best pure runner on his team.
Jonathan Stewart should get his third straight start at running back after Williams missed practice Friday because of an ankle injury. Williams is listed as doubtful, as is running back Tyrell Sutton.
Stewart has rushed for 315 rushing yards over the last two games while Carolina dispatched the Vikings and Giants. He’s listed as questionable, but that was the case the last two weeks as well.
The Panthers also officially placed Steve Smith on injured reserve Friday and signed linebacker Mortty Ivy to their active roster. The decision to pass on activating a running back indicates the team is confident in Stewart’s health.
