I dont like it! Get a coach who really wants to be part of the best NFL franchises ever.
Shanahan just wants to get paid and after five years later he’s gone.
I like Russ Grimm. He has tyes to the Redskins tradition and knows the history.
His heart will be in it more than Shanahan. He also comes from the Bill Cohwer coaching tree not to mention Joe Gibbs.
He could get a fraction of that 50 million and probably still get as many or more wins than Shanahan.
Russ reminds me of an Andy Reid Type.

Shannahan doesn’t know shit about defense but he does have a knack for putting together offensive juggernauts. He made Jake Plummer a pro-bowler for God’s sake and took them to the AFC championship before Plummer crapped out. He makes 1000 yard rushers out of nobodys. Our defenses during our super bowl years were average. They had the benefit of our O out scoring everyone. If you’re looking for an offensive minded coach, there is none better. A more complete coach? Hire Cowher.

Actually Shanahan couldnt win the big game solely with Elway, it took the arrival of Terrell Davis in order for the Donkos to finally win the Super Bowl. Shanahan is not going to be a Redskins savior.

Between Fat Albert and Shanahan, can’t wait to see what tickets and beer will cost in 2010. I think Snyder is going to be suing a lot more season ticket holders!
First 10 mil/yr coach and I expect to see the first $20 beer at FedEx. But I won’t be there to buy it. I’m done with Snyder and the Skinz after this year. They have the nerve to send out ticket renewals already and want the money by Feb 1.

No coach is worth $10 million a year… except maybe Phil Jackson.
I love how Dan Snyder just thinks that spending money on “high profile names” will be the remedy to all of the Redskins problems… year after year.
Thank god I am not a Redskins fan. It is a new year, but the Skins being irrelevent will fast forward in time like a broken record.

Mike Shanahan is a great coach with a record that speaks for itself. However to pay anyone
that much money does not make sense. Bill Parcells calls it right when he states that the NFL is about talent acquisition. Recruiting the right talent is not a certainty no matter who the General Manager/Coach is! Dan Snyder is not capable of thinking, he just throws money at people. Washington D.C. is a great football market but the owner of the Washington Redskins is a jerk.

I am so sick of all you morons saying Shanahan is overrated. The man won 2 super bowls back to back, how many coaches have even won 2? And no, it was NOT John Elway that won. Sorry to dissappoint all you die hard fans, but Elway NEVER would have won a Super Bowl without Shanahan. And thats because Shanahan gave Elway a running game and Terrell Davis. Elway did not win a Super Bowl in his prime, he won it in his last 2 years, with a running back who carried over 2000 yards rushing and more receiving one season and another stellar season the other super bowl run. Shanahan made a good running game with nobodies. Look at last year, hell Peyton Hillis was running down peoples throats before he went on IR (along with all their running backs which cost him his job). Shanahan can coach, and with a real GM this may be a great hire. But as Redskinchip said, its going to come down to whether Snyder lets them run the team. Even if we are mediocre next season as we rebuild, we need to relax. But we shall see how long Snyders patience can last…

This is a good fit for the Redskins. Snyder likes paying too much money for overrated Defensive players and Shanahan has a bad habit of doing the exact same thing. Good times all around!
On a serious note, how is this guy worth $10 mil a year? He only won when he had John Elway playing QB. It doesnt take an offensive genius to win with Elway at QB

I disagree – Parcells did it with 2 different qb’s, Siefert also, Gibbs with 3 different qb’s, Hell even Reeves went to the super bowl with 2 different qb’s. Shanhan had quite a while in Denver after number 7 retired & never did anything. You have the BEST owner in the NFL in Denver, he thought best to move on with out him also. He isn’t worth that kind of $$$

What is Coach Belichick making? You’d have to think he’s well paid. Why isn’t that information available to the public, have Patriots not disclose any information about his contract? Do we not have any idea on dollar amount or length? He’s like a modern day Don Draper. The guy doesn’t even allow EA Sports put him in the Madden franchise.
