‘Skins, NFL, Pollard Alliance start to catch heat for Rooney Rule mockery

While posting over the past two weeks various stories regarding the Redskins’ decision to interview at least one minority candidate both for G.M. and head-coaching jobs that weren’t open at the time, we were perplexed by the fact that not many others in the media seemed to care about a situation so outlandish that it borders on the surreal.

Though the outcry is still sorely lacking, a couple of influential voices have joined the effort to expose the Redskins’ obvious effort to treat Rooney Rule compliance like filling out a stack of paperwork for a building permit to remodel a half-bathroom.

On Thursday, John Feinstein teed off in the Washington Post, a publication that previously had been adopting, for the most part, a hear/see/speak no evil posture regarding the situation.

And then Jason Whitlock of FOXSports.com took the gloves off.

We can only hope that this chorus grows on Monday, when it’s announced that Jim Zorn has been relieved of his duties -- and when Mike Shanahan shows up as the new coach, roughly 114 minutes later.

Then again, maybe the Redskins have been shamed into waiting a full two hours.
