We mentioned on Friday that the Patriots have listed Randy Moss and Wes Welker as probable for Sunday’s game at Houston, even though neither are injured.
Tom Curran of Comcast Sports Net explains that the Pats opted to play it safe, given that Moss and Welker were given time off from practice this week.
Patriots V.P. of media relations Stacey James told Curran that the league wants a label applied to every player who misses practice during the week, even if the player misses practice when not injured.
Still, it’s hardly a universal practice. Throughout the season, players routinely miss practice on Wednesday with the “not injury related” designation, and they don’t appear on the final injury report as “probable.”
This practice further muddles the injury-reporting system, especially as it relates to the “probable” designation. Many still think that it means there’s a 75-percent chance the player will play. It actually means there’s a virtual certainty the player will be available for normal duty.
Regardless, teams should be permitted to give players a little time off without feeling compelled to apply a label suggesting that they’re injured when they actually aren’t.
Vegas rules. It actually implies they won’t play the whole game, cause the Coach didn’t need them on the day they installed the Texans game plan.
I’m guessing BB gave Moss Wednesday off cause there was snow coming… didn’t want to have to suspend him again for being late
NY POST TODAY
Jets -10, opened at -8.5 and -9: “It’s kind of a nightmare trying to figure out who’s gonna play,” said MGM Mirage race and sports book director Jay Rood.
The total opened at 36.5, but the prospect of cold and wind is real.
“They immediately bet it down to 35,” Rood said. “And the Bengals possibly sitting some starters. When, that’s anybody’s guess. After the 1st series? After the 1st quarter? After the 1st half? If at all, who knows? There’s a scenario where everything falls into place and the Steelers could get in if the Jets lose.”
Rood has heard the conspiracy theorists whispering that the Bengals and Patriots could decide to lay down if it meant no Steelers in the postseason.
“At this point, it’s just a managing-the-money thing,” Rood said. “If there’s a perception that’s gonna happen, there’s a number that’ll stop them, whether it’s 10.5 or 11. If I see any kind of LARGE money come in on the Jets, I’m not gonna hesitate to move quickly.” ….
who cares?
nothing to write about today Mike?
only way you can be confident palmer isn’t replaced by the other palmer is if NFL instructs bengals to try to PLAY TO WIN THE GAME because not doing so on holiday weekend ending national TV will embarrass the NFL with a tank job.

Is this news?
How about posting a story when the Pats are actually truthful about something.
Florio, off topic about the injury report… i know you mentioned the playoff schedule a couple of days ago but is their anyway NBC shows Cincinnati two straight weeks in primetime or at all on their network? Is it fairly safe to say the Patriots will be the 8pm game on NBC and most likely the NFC game not featuring the ‘boys will be the 4pm game?
When did people start assuming probable meant 75%? I am certain that way more than 75% of players listed as probable play. Likely that less than 25% of player listed as doubtful play.
The percentage designation seem to be more of a label of convenience, but 50 – 50 and questionable would appear to be the only accurate assessment.
was this necessary? this just adds to the list of worthless articles this site posts.
Brady has been probable for years for his shoulder. He has been carrying a rib and finger report for several weeks. It’s not like he’s being given a day off to go to Disneyland. What’s the big deal here?

I see the new year is off to the same hating as the old year was rung out with. Dumbass, either learn to read or stop posting. The Patriots listed Welker and Moss on the injury report because they missed practice, and are REQUIRED to list people who miss practice on the injury report.
I understand that you’re afraid of your team getting it’s asses kicked by the Big Bad Patriots. But you just look like a moron when you can’t even read correctly.
“teams should be permitted to give players a little time off without feeling compelled to apply a label suggesting that they’re injured when they actually aren’t”
Aren’t you the nazi that states teams should be following the injury report rules? Jesus f’ing Christ…. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE INJURY REPORT BUT YOU. GET OVER IT, GIVE IT UP.

Only a lawyer could see the word “probably” and read it as “virtual certainty”.
Just saying.

They are still at the team facility on days they don’t participate in practice.
Otherwise, that was real funny.
Just goes to show how screwy the system is and how funny it is that people bagged all over Belichick in the past for pointing this out. The more time passes, the more is seems Belichick is just a regular guy that wants to do his job as best he can and not be bothered by the press and dumba@@ NFL policies. Kinda like most people.
They should list all starters as “doubtful” just to f with the Texans.
Aren’t any Texans fans happy to hear this?
