Report: Polamalu will not play

All week long, there were expectations that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was unlikely to suit up for Pittsburgh’s regular season finale.

It looks like those expectations will be proven correct.  Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Polamalu will not play against the Dolphins Sunday.

We’ll find out the official word when the inactives are announced.  Ricky Williams is also questionable for the Steelers-Dolphins elimination game, but looks likely to play.

If the Steelers win, they will have to wait until the 4PM games to find out if Polamalu will get a chance to return next week.

  1. I still want to know if/how the Bengals can get the #3 seed if both the Bengals and Pats each win, or each lose?
Dont the Pats currently only hold a 4 win advantage in SOV?

  2. I think it’s a 5 win advantage. Cincy would need a lot of games to go their way to catch up by 8 pm – namely they would need Pitt to beat Miami, Browns over Jags, Colts over Bills, and then a couple others.
Also, Florio, the Steelers will have to wait until 8 pm to see if Polamalu gets a chance to return next week. Pittsburgh can clinch after the 4 pm games (a Pats win and Raiders win will do it), but if that doesn’t happen, they would have to wait until 8 pm to see the outcome of Jets/Bengals (Pats win and Bengals win = playoff berth).

  3. I think the decision for Troy not to play is a wise one. The steelers should take care of business today without Troy. The rest of what the steelers need to make the playoffs is out of their hands. So why play him. It would be different if this were a win and your in situation. This will give his knee another week to rehab.
The problem for the steelers is if they do get in, Troy will not be close to 100% and could very well tweak his knee again.
If I didnt want McKenzie for the Ravens, I would say it would be a good idea for the steelers to pick him up if they make the playoffs.

  4. Being a steeler fan I find myself not really caring if we make the playoffs. Sure it would be nice, but really, you make one mistake and sure, you can lose to the chiefs. Lightening can strike twice and lose to the raiders too (who, oddly enough, if you look at the past decade has a 3-2 winning record against the steelers) but the browns too!!??!??!!!!!
The trifecta of embarrassment says it all. GO STEELERS!, but, if we don’t make it, eeh, I ain’t lose’n any sleep.

  5. Ok Ravenmaniac .. did you fall and hit your head ? lol I seen the past few pro steelers posts . From a Ravens fan ? Do my teary eyes decieve me ? lol

  6. @steeltown…How is that being pro-steeler…just being realistic….I have a huge amount of respect for Polamalu. If this was a story about hines or harrison my tone would have been vastly different.
Besides, it is Sunday and I hate the steelers just as much as ever….ahh that felt good..
All kidding aside, at the end of a season I always try to look at things from a “real” perspective. At the beginning of a season, it is different.

  7. This is so disappointing. I thought this week the Steelers were telling the truth about Troy possibly playing. He did some nice walk thrus with Elvis and Michael jackson and then was seen having fun at Jimmy Hofa’s New Year’s Eve bash.

  8. I think we can put the Reed-Polamalu controversy to rest. With Troy in the lineup, the Steelers D last year was one of the best of all time. He made a very pisspoor secondary #1 against the pass. Even with Reed in, the Ratbirds still have a susceptible backfield. Troy=best defensive player in the game.

  9. It was a 5 game spread before the Bears beat the Vikings Monday.
    Should be 4 now.
They will automatically get another with the Bears-Lions victor.
Steelers win today gives them two more, Ravens win gives them two more,,,,,,,,etc.
    Unless my math is wrong??????

I wouldn’t bet on it.. Steelers have won a lot of things they shouldn’t have. They’ll make the playoffs, no matter how much of a long shot it is. It’s just a question of how far they go after that.

  11. Ravens fans should wants the Steelers in the playoffs. Baltimore would then have a realistic chance to host an AFC Championship.

  12. Please DanRooney…..I know you are an old senile koot but……
Your defense was one of the best of all time???? Pahlease….
Not having Troy is just one of the issues that your defense has..with Troy in, your D is not the same as last year my firend! Not even close.
Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu = The best safeties to ever play the game…….

  13. Anyone banking on the Steelers ‘taking care of business’ hasn’t been watching football for the entire end of this regular season.
They have done NOTHING convincingly for weeks and weeks, including barely pulling out a V last week.
Unleash Hell? Take care of business? What would ever make you think that?

Umm, I think your forgetting a few. Namely Ronnie Lott, who was better than both.

  15. @Polego….who wouldnt love the thought of sitting down in front of the TV (or better yet at M&T Bank Stadium) to watch the Ravens and the Steelers battle for the AFC title!!! It doesnt get any better….
