Vikings shredding the Giants

With the Vikings needing a win and some silver-and-blue help in order to secure the second seed in the NFC playoff field, the first part of that equation is being addressed.

Convincingly.

Minnesota leads the Giants in the second quarter, 24-0.

Taking into account last weekend’s 41-9 loss to the Panthers, the Giants have been outscored by 56 points in less than six quarters, 65-9.

Meanwhile, the Vikings have exploded for 54 points since halftime of Monday night’s loss to the Bears. Quarterback Brett Favre has thrown for more than 500 yards during that time frame, too.

If the Dallas Cowboys beat the Eagles in a game that begins at 4:15 p.m. ET (and if the Vikings don’t undergo a historic collapse), Minnesota secure a first-round bye -- and the Vikings will be guaranteed at least one home game in the postseason.

UPDATE: At halftime, it’s 31-0.
