This is hilarious. You would think that people at NBC and sports fans would have a clue about how the 40 works. In the olympics you react to a gun, no human can react faster than .1 and the best guys are between .13 to .15. And these guys react to guns for a living.
In the NFL 40 you start whenever you feel like it. So basically that pretty 4.24 time CJ runs is AT BEST a 4.4 in the real world of sprinting. If Bolt could start whenever he wanted he would be in the 3.95 to 4.1 range in all likelyhood and in the first 40 yards of his best 100m races he was between 4.18 and 4.25 depending on what you believe. Either way. It isnt close. Its like CJ and some guy who ran a 4.44 at the combine. Its not close and if you think it is basically you are proving your ignorance

Look guys, for the sake of competition, the race will be shorter than 100 meters. Otherwise, CJ would be at the Olympics. The reason the race might be competitve is because Bolt is not a great starter (i.e., a shorter race plays into CJ’s hands).
It’ll probably be somewhere between 40-60 meters. CJ needs to start working on getting out of the blocks at the sound of the gun, which is something you don’t have to deal with at the combine where they start upon the runner’s movement.

Chris Johnson does have a tweaking problem, I noticed that last year in the playoffs when the Ravens broke him up,and he just sat there on the sidelines pissed, shaking his head every few seconds.
To be that fast, you gotta have some type of twaking going on. CJ seems like a cool dude though,.

Chris Johnson is the fastest RB in the NFL hands down and also the best, spedsters Willie Parker, Adrian Peterson & Jamaal Charles weak sisters in comparison; still Bolt will leave Johnson in the dust (Bolt already raced Charles and left Jamaal in another zip code.)

Usain Bolt trains to run fast…..he is taught how to get to his maximum speed at any distance…..obviously he would like it longer so he does not have to change his training to run a shorter distance….Fact is the dude is faster than any man on the earth. If he trained to run 60 meters, 40 meters or 30 meters he would win against anyone.
That said, it would be fun to watch, but why limit his competition to Chris Johnson.??
We do not even know for sure if he is the fastest man in the NFL. How about including D. Jackson, Mike Wallace, and any other player who can run a sub-4.4 40. I really think none of them has a chance to beat Bolt, but we would find out who the fastest NFL player is…..Why not include Lebron??

This IS stupid. Both are fast guys that excell in different areas. Usain is long distance, Chris Johnson is short distance. We have timed records of both guys – Chris is faster short, Usain is faster long.
How could you develop a fair race? Usain will want a 100m, and Johnson will want a 60m or less. If you pick either way for length, it automatically tips in favor of one of the players.

Everyone keeps forgetting that in high school cj went out for the olympics and lost, if I remember correctly, to Walter Dix by a hair. That is why he didn’t go to the olympics. Now, he is older, stronger, and in his prime. The guy is the fastest in the NFL. Not biased, but no one has ran the 40 since it’s been timed electronically that fast ever. It’d be way more exciting if Deion was still playing in his prime and it was them two, but if you already know you’re the fastest player in the NFL, then why not go after the fastest man alive?

First of all, let’s not downplay Chris Johnson’s speed. He’s arguably the fastest back in the NFL, and that isn’t easy. Every NFL-calibur running back is an exceptional athlete. They’re the fastest of the fast and the quickest of the quick. So to say that Chris is possibly the fastest (and the BEST), is high praise indeed.
That being said, although Chris likely has superior acceleration and quickness, there’s just no way he beats Bolt running anything over 40 yds in a straight line.
Bolt races people who train to run. Not catch, break tackles, and block. Fastest men on the planet…..and he makes it seem like he’s racing grade-school children.
There’s just no way.

What is up with that weird twitch/spasm that Johnson has? Anyone know what that’s all about? Watched the Hawks game yesterday and they kept showing CJ after he broke 2,000 and he kept involuntarily twitching. Freaky.

Gee, Johnson’s combine 40 time is faster han Bolt’s first 40 yards of his 100 meters…. where have I heard that before… oh wait, I know, I’ve been saying since this was first discussed! This would be a very tight race at 60 yards…
The biggest question is how will Johnson do when depending on reaction time to get him started (as in track) rather than first movement (as 40′s are measured).

Probably because Bolt was running 40 meters, not 40 yards, as Johnson did. 40 meters equals about 44 yards.

Hey if it’s for charity, I’m all for it. I think there needs to be some evening out of the playing field though. First, it has to be on a surface akin to what Johnson had at the combine. Second, it cannot be less than 60 meters. Give the guys the same cleats and let them have at it. Best two out of three wins.
I’d still put my money on Bolt, but you never know…

But taking splits in meters (a longer unit of measure) from a longer race and comparing them to a 40 yard time? The race will not be as close as Gregggg seems to think.
