Bucs insist they're not pursuing Cowher

In response to a report from NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might still be interested in coach Bill Cowher a day after the Buccaneers announced that coach Raheem Morris will return for at least another year, an unnamed, high-ranking member of the organization tells Adam Schefter of ESPN that the team has not reached out to Cowher, and will not do so.

The official calls the report of interest in Cowher “categorically false.”

And that’s where it gets interesting.  The supposedly “categorically false” reports appear on a web site that the Bucs partially own, in a 1/32nd chunk.  So, in 3.125-percent way, the Bucs are reporting “categorically false” information about themselves.

Then again, Schefter should be familiar with that dynamic.  While in the job La Canfora now holds, Schefter was accused by a 1/32nd owner of NFL Network as being a “false rumor monger.”

I will repeat what I posted in response to Florio’s earlier story, “Bucs, Cowher Could Still Get Together”… the Glazers cannot be believed! We as Bucs fans are truly overloaded with their pile of bull$hit. I remember after last season, Jon Gruden’s job was safe, although I can’t remember if it was “categorically” safe. Then, three weeks after the season (after all the NFL coaching firings were assumed to be done), the owners had been “carefully considering” during those weeks the future of the franchise, and Gruden was “not the direction in which they wanted to go”.
Only believe what these buttwipes put out when it is finalized in writing.

As a Buc fan, I wish that they would decide one way or another so fans and players will have some sense of what direction the team will be going in 2010!! My personal choice would be Cowher just for the sake he has been a proven HC. Either way, still a Buc fan living here in Carolina….

If the Bucs were still pursuing Cowher, they wouldn’t have made the announcement that Raheem Morris was staying next year.
The owners are notorious for being overly quiet to the media, so when they make an announcement like they did when they had the option to say nothing, you can believe that they’re telling the truth. They won’t hire Cowher.
    This year, anyway.

you are such a stupid troll, florio

Raheem Morris is the Buc’s coach for next year. Josh Freeman is the QB. I believe this is fixed in stone . Whatever happens to the rest of the staff and team is another matter. Us true Buc fans can wait. Retooling is tough. We can’t get detoured by rumors. Hold on to facts. GO BUCS!

If the Bucs were/are talking to Cowher, there is no way in hell they are going to admit it. Schefter’s contacts are with the Bucs so they will deny everything even if talks are going on.
What I want to see is Cowher say he’s not coaching in 2010. The fact he’s staying silent tells me something is being talked about somewhere.

Is it possible that Bill Cowher has waited too long to get back into the game? If he doesn’t get a gig in 2010, will he will command the money that he would now or last year? The game changes so much, and his personal knowledge of teams and players has to be less each year he misses. Someone pointed this out on one of these sites recently and I think it makes sense.

YOU KNOW ALL THIS TALK ABOUT COWHER, GET RID OF RAHEEM MORRIS , BAD MOUTHING THE GLAZER IS ALL BULL —-. PEOPLE FORGET COWHER WASN’T ALL THAT GREAT IN PITTSBURG. HE WON 1 SUPER BOWL AND HE ALSO WENT THROUGH SEVERAL CO-ORDINATORS . THERE WAS A MANY TIMES THE FANS THERE WANTED HIM GONE FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING IN THE PLAYOFFS. NOW ALL OVER CERTAIN HE’S WORTH 7 MILLION A YEAR AND CONTROL OF THE ORGANIZATION. 2. MORRIS HAD NEVER BEEN A CO-ORDINATOR OR HEAD COACH. IF YOURE GOING TO FIRE MORRIS THEN THEY SHOULD SURELY FIRE JOSH MCDANIAL WHO WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A TOP CO-ORDINATOR. 3. THE GLAZERS GOT THEIR WAY OF DOING BUSINESS, BUT THEY’RE A HUGH IMPROVEMENT FROM HUGH CULVERHOUSE. REMEMBER THE GLAZER S BROUGHT IN DUNGY WHO HELPED BUILT THIS ORGANIZATION AND ALSO MADE A MOVE AT THE RIGHT TIME THAT BROUGHT US A SUPER BOWL. SO FOR ALL THE TRUE BUC FANS, GO BUCS 2010

I will say this again…Cowher not only is NOT worth what he’s asking…but he’s a mediocre talent at best. The Dave Wandstad of Pro football… His 1 SB came from a fix on 2 phantom holding calls…it was beyond obvious the league wanted the Steelers to win…ppppffftttt
Raheem is a much better coach and has waaaayyyy more upside. Either deal with the obvious rebuilding or just move along. Petulance is sooooo 2008….

Still with this??? Good grief. The Bucs don’t have any money to hire Cowher and then pay the salaries of players that Cowher would bring in.
the Bucs will cut payroll this year, not increase it.

24 Bucs – You’re a Bucs fan??? Gee, no $hit Dick Tracy – your moniker “24 Bucs” sure as hell doesn’t make you a Buckeye fan.
Why ID-10-ts like yourself have to pre-face their posts with “As a Bucs fan” is beyond me – or any other team for that matter. WTF??? Does stating you’re a particular team’s fan some how give your post more credibility? Not the way I see it, yet too many fans of Tampa Bay seem to think so.
You and all those those other Bucs fans who have to consistently lead off their posts with the ever popular “I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1976″ or “As a Bucs fan” need to wake up and stop stating the obvious or the irrelevant.
Just write your comment and get a clue – no one gives a Rats A$$ how many years you’ve had season tickets to the Bucs nor do we need to know that you are “a Bucs fan”, especially when your sign on name says so.

    Cowher YES! Cowher NO! …..FINE!
Just get someone to replace Morris as HC that DOES know what they are doing!!!
I wouldn’t let Morris coach a flag football team at the Y at this point.
The Bucs desperately are in dire need of a competent coach with some HC experience if they are to EVER have ANY HOPE at being good or even at least mediocre or better next year….

Robert Irsay also denied rumors of the Colts moving to Indianapolis mere hours before the Mayflower trucks showed up.

    Pier588,
If you’re a bucs season ticket holder as long as I have been, then you’d know that I helped build Ray Jay. So suck on that.

    Just say no to Cower!
    Go Bucs!
