JaMarcus missed team meeting, but not Vegas

Jamarcus Russell and Richard Seymour were the only two Raiders to miss the team’s year-end meeting Monday.

Since coach Tom Cable gave Russell a hall pass, saying he was excused for “personal reasons,” we weren’t even sure the news was postworthy.  Now it is.

Going on a tip from a commenter, Oakland Tribune columnist Cam Inman dialed the Palms in Las Vegas to see if Russell was checked in.  He was. (Tip to JaMarcus: Use the name “Ron Mexico” next time.)

Russell is free to do anything he wants in his free time.  Maybe he even had a legitimate excuse to miss the meeting, then book it to Vegas.

But considering his disastrous season, not to mention his compensation, we’d think Russell would make damn sure he completed his obligations to his team and show up for the meeting like everyone else before hitting the slot machines.

We would say this should be the last straw for Russell in Oakland, but let’s be real.  The man covering for him Monday, Tom Cable, is a lot less likely to be a Raider in 2010.

And to think, you supported Al Davis that Buffoon. Makes me feel a lot better about your support of the Favre haters in the slant you put on your articles. People you support don’t end up doing that well.

It’s pretty obvious JaMarcus has no interest in being a professional QB. He’ll be unemployed soon enough and no other team will give a crap.
I wonder how long he’ll be able to live off that $$ before he’s broke.

Romo got ripped on for going to Vegas after a Thansgiving day WIN!! Imagine the aftermath Russell will get after blowing off a meeting to go to Vegas after an awful, awful season.
Time and time again, this guy shows that he just does not have what it takes to be a professional football player. All the raw talent in the world, but no brains.

If Al fires Tom Cable, and keeps JaBustus, I’m hanging up my eyepatch until the old man croaks. This team is on its way under Cable, and clearly would have won more games without Russell.
Cable has the locker room behind him in a big way, which should be good enough for Al. And it better be, or there will be a rebellion!

  20. RaiderRedleg says: Jan 5, 2010 5:16 PM

    Dear Jamarcus,
Thank you for letting us into the playoffs.
    – The Ravens!
Seriously, I was listening the linebacker Jarret Johnson for the Ravens on the Radio last night, and the host asked him how big is Jamarcus. After a pause, he said Jamarcus was definitely larger than him. And they began to laugh about Jamarcus listed at 260.
If the Raiders fire Cable, someone should give him another chance.

  54. Richm2256 says: Jan 5, 2010 5:47 PM

What a pathetic waste of money, a draft choice, and all the hopes and hard work of the Raiders coaching staff.
If ever there was a football player who couldn’t care less about their career, it’s this loser.
There are countless people with more courage, determination, and intelligence, but who don’t have quite the physical talent of this buffoon; a guy with a physical gift, but no brains to use it with. What those others could do with his talent.
Jamarcus, if by some stroke of fate you are away from the buffett table or the roulette wheel long enough to see this, GET A GRIP, SON.
Start realizing the talent you are wasting, the efforts of your teammates and your coaches, start giving a crap about yourself, your career, your legacy.
This turd simply will never get it. What a waste. At least Ryan Leaf had SOME drive.

I will give Richard Seymour a pass because he is a player who has payed his dues and has earned respect, Russell has not, he should be in a gym working out trying to get better as a passer, but instead is…..in Vegas??? that is pathetic, as a redskin fan i do not like Campbell, but at least the man tries, now Campbell is all but gone and Bradford or Clausen is going to replace him, but Russell needs to grow up, if he stays, personally, i keep Cable and keep Russell, but as a backup and try to get a free agent qb like Troy Smith and have him beat out Russell.

The facts is we drafted a pocket passer , and have an o-line that can not create a pocket. So QB’s that can run for their lives that have no arms, do better.
Raiders have only drafted only 7 o-line men since 2000, and 5 of those 7 have started for the raiders at one time this year. That is how thin they are on the line. They need to draft an OT in the first rd, an OG in the second, and a c in the third. If we cut loose on J-russ this year then we neeed to take a qb in the first rd.

  92. AbeFreshly says: Jan 5, 2010 7:47 PM

Actually, 1nationraidernation has a point. The OL is responsible for Gradkowski getting mauled onto the IR, Small Frye getting the shit beat out of him, & Russell not getting enough time to find his targets. I lost count of how many backside QB hits & pressures Mario Henderson allowed.
I think that anyone taller than 6’6 is too tall to play Tackle. They always seem to get bitchslapped by smaller DEs with greater strength, speed , & leverage. Henderson clearly had no answer Sunday. It was obvious from the first drive that he was going to get dominated all bloody day.
Unless Russell’s OL teammates just could not stomach the thought of Russell coming in & winning the game & being the hero (thus, putting conflict into Davis’ mind this offseason) because his work ethic is an insult to his teammates…& everyone else in the player’s union. So, the pass rush pressure seemed a little more intense on him.
Russell looked like he might have pulled the upset, but the ‘protection’ was a JOKE.
How many QBs have to get injured before Henderson is forced to do penance? What about Carlisle? Green? Face it. The young DL they face every week outclass them, outwork them, overpower them, & outsmart them. They should just ‘fall on their swords’ & retire.
Henderson is good backup, but it looks like he’s reverting to his lazy habits that caused him to be punked in the media by Kiffin everyday.

I don’t know what it is about these LSU guys but so many of them suck in the NFL. I’m a Chiefs fan and they have drafted one in the first round the last three years (Dwayne Bowe, Glenn Dorsey, and Tyson Jackson) and they all suck.

“AL Davis should not be blammed for drafting JRUSS. Alot of experts had him going first. Davis has gotten alot out of this years and last years draft…Shaunassy,Scott,Murphy,Schillens, etc…
how many GM get 100 percent correct?”
Ozzie Newsome. – Ray Lewis, Peter Bouleware, Todd Heap, Duane Starks, Jamal Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, Jonathan Ogden, Bart Scott, Terrell Suggs…i’d like to go on, but we dont have that much time…..
    Nuff said

Seriously, when this guy came out of LSU, how many people said “this kid is going to make Ryan Leaf look like a freaking pro bowler”???
    What a pathetic situation.

He’s not worth the money he was signed for so hopefully he will lose it ALL in Vegas.

wow enough of bad mouthing this guy…..with some good coaching he would have been fine. get over it already! its a joke he has no line, no receivers, and bad running backs. Stafford had barely anything besides megatron, and sanchez had everything and still sucked but no one says a word about them. get over it.

WOW … We got a JaMarcus lover … must be a relative.
Seriously Gradkowski and even the 3rd string QB Fyre ALL threw for more than 300 yds in a game with the same OL and WRs … something JaMarcus has’t done in 3 years.

Denver, KC, and San Diego all pray that Al Davis lives forever.

Did I see somebody actually defending Russell in these comments????
Are you freaking serious to blame all his problems on the O-Line? Are you totally ignorant of all the lack of effort this fat tub o’ lard has put into his job, the complete and utter lack of leadership???
Maybe Al Davis should schedule a meeting with whomever got through to Vince Young to straighten up and fly right. Just tell Jafata$$ that it’s a lunch meeting; he may skip practice or training camp, but dude NEVER misses a meal.

bringbacktheflex,, amen to that.. we love Al Davis here in Denver.. I don’t think that will ever change.. We love Mr Davis, Mr. Russell, Mr. Bey.. Think that they are all great and hope that they are all a big part of the future of the raiders.. Just love em.. We are looking forward to Mr. Davis next great pic from the draft.. Hopefully not a qb.. We love Mr. Russell tooo much..

encinitasraider, What flavor is the Kool-aid that the raiders are serving where you appear to elieve that “we would have been in the playoffs if” crap. Sorry dude, but the Raiders draft was a joke. How’d you like that 9 catches for 124 yards from the #7 pick in the draft?
Tdk24, didn’t Calvin Johnson have over 1300 yards and 12 TDs in’08 and almost 1000 yards this year despite a rookie QB and injuries? Doesn’t sound like a bust to me.

    the big bronco,
I glad you keep letting everyone know that you are in love with Al Davis.
We in Oakland are pretty fond of McDaniels and the way your team finished out the season.
Truly brilliant plan on running your marquee QB and WR out of town and trying to win with a re-tread QB from Chicago.
