Billick contacts Tice about joining Buffalo staff

Though former Ravens coach Brian Billick denied on Monday having contact with the Bills “as of yet,” he’s having plenty of contact with folks who would work with him if he gets the Buffalo job.

Per WGRZ-TV, Billick has reached out to Jaguars assistant head coach Mike Tice regarding the possibility of joining the staff.

Tice and Billick worked together in Minnesota under Dennis Green before the Ravens hired Billick in 1999. Tice was named interim head coach after Green was fired late in the 2001 season, and Tice thereafter held the job for four seasons.

As we recently pointed out, it’s prudent for a coaching candidate like Billick to line up commitments from potential assistant coaches. Whether it’s prudent for those potential assistant coaches to then blab about it is a different issue, especially when the coaching candidate in question already has a reputation for having an overly-inflated opinion of his abilities.
