Charles Rogers in trouble, again

Six long years ago, Lions CEO Matt Millen invited receiver Charles Rogers to the NFL via the second overall pick in the draft.

Three seasons — and only 15 total regular-season games — later, Rogers was out of the league.

He currently seems to be on track to eventually spend a lot more time than that in jail.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Rogers has been arrested again.  This time, he was picked up on an “outstanding district warrant,” which means he’d been wanted for arrest.

Rogers has been on the wrong side of the law several times since leaving the NFL.  Most recently, he pleaded guilty for driving while impaired.

  1. Every time this guy gets in trouble, you guys write an article on it. Who cares? The guy had 30-something career catches, turned into an overweight bum, and can’t stay out of trouble. Nobody cares about this irrelevant turd anymore.

  2. Unfortunately, even if there are major red flags on a guy’s character, if he can bring the potential for major upside in the NFL, GM’s and teams will continue to take these kinds of risks.

  3. sad, a damn shame, waste of talent!
I just don’t understand how people mess over their blessings like that!?
But for every Charles Rogers, there is a Josh Cribbs that goes undrafted and wakes up and straps up! Charles Rogers is theprime example and reason why Cleveland needs to break down and “PAY DA MAN!”

That’s ok, when he dies, people will remember him as a saint, eh Chris Henry?

  5. Too bad he couldn’t get it together. I read an article a while back that that said he was really doing good and keeping his nose clean. I guess not.

  6. why is this football news? who cares, i mean really? i guess it is my fault for reading the article, but do you get some sort of thrill on writing about problems that former NFL players are having? You write on such a limited amount of NFL news, why this?

Did you say “strap up” or “strap on?”

  8. Thanks for the update, I have Chuck Rogers’ college jersey and he’s always been one of my favorite players.
When he played in NFL games he wasnt that bad. Matt Millen told him to stay away from the team after he got hurt the 2nd time and its been downhill ever since.
For people who say he was the biggest bust ever, thats just ridiculous. Have you ever seen Darren Mcfadden, Ryan Leaf or Curtis Enis play? Atleast Chuck was better than them when he got playing time.
Freddie Mitchell and Charles Rogers are propbably friends I would imagine.

  9. I guess just a matter of time before he jumps into the back of his girlfriend’s truck and gets killed because “she can’t find a place to safely come to a complete stop”.
And Roger Goddell will then say something like “he was really turning his life around” …

  10. I saw him do an interview on ESPN last year talking about how he was getting it together and most of his problems were from painkiller addiction. Watching him speak, the way his lips moved, the facial ticks, shouted out “hey, I’m on herion!” Sad, very sad.

  11. Pretty sad that Rogers walked away from the NFL with enough money that he and his entire family could live comfortably for life, yet he can’t stay out of trouble. The guy effectively won the lottery yet that’s not enough. Let him rot in prison then, maybe he deserves it.

  12. I can’t believe all of the negative references to Chris Henry. Chris really had changed his life. People who have been straight all of their life do not realize how hard it is to change. It requires a complete change of personality, friends, sometimes family and lifestyle. Not easy. Especially when there are people who will never let you forget what you once were.
I’m sure Chris never imagined that his Fiance would take off down the road fast enough to kill him. He probably assumed she was going to stay and work things out and that he was not putting himself in danger. I doubt that he was planning on taking a ride into town.

  13. I like the mention about the year of his car.. same year as he was drafted.. wonder if he even had the oil changed??

Darren McFadden?? Lumped in with Curtis Penis and Ryan freaking Leaf???? Watch a game sometime, dumbazz.

  15. Hmmm. 3 years, then out of the league. 3 more years? Broke, & going to jail. JaMarcus Russell, see thy future…
BTW, madstork43, I’m a Raider fan just like you. McFragile has more career fumbles than he has TDs, even though he usually doesn’t touch the ball more than 9 or 10 times per game. After 2 yrs, his career rushing total is less than 860 yards.
Since you are a fellow Raider fan, you must share my disappointment with our 22 yr old multi-millionaire RB. He’s not durable, & he’s a threat to fumble every bloody time he touches the ball. Also, it appears that opposing tacklers need not actually lay the lumber on him in order for him to fall down. Sometimes, it appears as though they merely have to swear at him, threaten him, or yell at him.
I have no doubt that the Raider fans in the Black Hole would have run McFadden out of town by now, except they are too busy gnawing on JaMarcus Russell, & Darius Heyward Bust. By this time next year, McFadden’s “Free Parking” privileges will have expired, & I expect that this will be clear to you too.

  17. I disagree, while McFadden may not be an every down “marquee” back, he’s definitely got skills as a receiver and a RB, and has yet to be utilized properly by the Raiders. If given a chance behind even a mediocre O-line, I feel he would be a LOT better than he has shown thus far….it’s just WAY too early to classify him a “BUST”, that’s what I’m saying.

  18. I agree about his skills. But, is it even possible for him to perform at a high level on a consistent basis, without getting injured? Has there been any RB who has missed as much time with injury?
Oh, & the FUMBLING. Good GAWD! He may fumble himself right out of the NFL.
“22 yr old multi millionaire”. Just look at that sentence for 10 seconds.
    BTW, shouldn’t it be “madstork83”?

  19. If I was going with Teddy’s number, yeah, it should. But I’m not. And yeah, I feel like a rookie pay scale is desperately needed in the NFL. DMac got screwed by some a-hole from the shoe company and ended up with turf-toe in BOTH GD FEET!! Then a knee this year b/c our blocking sucked so bad that he was getting POUNDED before he even took the handoff half of the time.
Just saying it’s too early to say he’s a bust, that’s all dude.
