Jenkins: "Nothing special" needed to stop Jackson

It’s been almost a day since we threw out some fresh meat for you Eagles and Cowboys fans out there to chew on.  (Try to be nice, guys.)

So here’s the latest DeSean Jackson quote to ponder while killing time before Saturday.

The Pro Bowl receiver said on UStream that the Cowboys have “like four people on your boy” and that he only sees man coverage 10% of the time, but he still likes those odds.

Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, who usually doesn’t cover Jackson, is calling shenanigans, according to former PFT scribe Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.

“It’s been a lot of talk to about double-covering or triple-covering this guy,” Jenkins said. “I haven’t seen it yet.
We single it up. We call [man] every play. There’s one man on him
and we’re just sitting in it. We’re holding our own and that’s pretty
much it. We’re holding our own. That’s pretty much it. We’re not doing
anything special for him or anybody else.”

The Eagles aren’t about sustaining long drives.  They need big plays to score, and no one is better at big plays than Jackson.  Except when he faces Dallas.

DeSean hasn’t done a damn thing against the Cowboys, not sure why’d he’d say anything to piss ‘em off. Now he’s going to get shut down AND laid out.

Outside of last weeks game, the Eagles have actually been sustaining long drives, but that would require some knowledge of what’s actually happening in football games to report. I love how DeSean Jackson becomes explosive in most of his games, but 1 or 2 games where he doesn’t have a record breaking game or hundreds of yards he turns into a bust and doesn’t need any special attention. Give me a break. Rarely does anyone in the Media know anything about sports outside of the flavor of the week game, team, or star.

  5. Chapnasty2 says: Jan 6, 2010 7:16 PM

Jackson has been covered man up nearly every play. Every team has safety help over speedy receivers like him and the Cowboys didn’t even do it on every play. What is funny is that most of us were discussing Jackson’s failed attempt at the English language last time and this is what he had to say:
“Mike Jenkins ain’t never shut me down, so y’all chill out over there,” Jackson said. “Them boys are scared of me. I’m a dual threat on that field. They be having like four people on your boy out there, but it’s all good. I probably get man coverage like 10 percent every game. But I like those odds. I’ll take that.”"
Honestly, how stupid is this individual?

this is the bottom line: jackson easily could burn their secondary. in fact he did last week, but good ol donnie overthrew an easy touchdown. jackson has burned almost every dback unit theyve faced…what makes the cowboys so special? odds are if jackson doesnt get a huge touchdown or a huge play, its mcnabbs doing.

Eh, I’d rather have undrafted Miles Austin. He can bust a big play no matter who is trying to cover him, whether it’s “interception magnet” Asante Samuel or “shut down presence” Sheldon Brown.

I believe you’d be wrong about that, But even in the game that you’re probably thinking of, Jackson didn’t do anything. 2 catches for 46 yards, 21 punt return yards total. Three games in a row he’s done nothing.
    24-0.

The Cowboys didn’t “shut him down”. McNabb and Jackson himself shut themselves down.
McNabb missed him on at least 2 deep balls and Jackson dropped several. Every time he was wide open.
If they didn’t mess up themselves, Jackson would have had an 8+ catch, 100+ yard, 2 td game.
The Cowboys played better overall, but it was way more about what the Eagles didn’t do than what the Cowboys did. Re-watch the game. DeSean torched these guys all game no matter the coverage. McNabb and Jackson failed to connect.

All the penalties in the league were created because of Cowboy players. Most are garbage drug addicts, like Crack addict Irvin. Just because ESPN hires him doesn’t me jack. How about the Roy Williams “special” the famous horse collar tackle. Dirtiest players are Cowboys. How about the Erik Williams “special” hands to the face. Created in honor of your garbage Cowboys’ player because none of them could stop the Eagles & Packers Reggie White. The only way they play is dirty, remember that? Hands to face loved that for years and they never called it. Do you think Jones pays off the refs?

As far as the actual game goes there is an interesting stat to look at. First everyone knows that opponents are (check my math on this one) 12-4 when they beat their opponent twice in the regular season. How ever the Cowboys are 0-2 in this situation. They lost to the Giants in their Super Bowl year, and the Cardinals who went on to lost to the Vikings who lost to the Falcons who lost to the Broncos (this before the divisions changed for you youngsters). So its tough to know whats going to happen. The Cowboys are the easy pick but no one should be surprised if the Eagles can win this pretty easily. Plus who knows how Romo will perform in the post season. As a 49er fan (thus I want Dallas to not have more SBs just to clear that up) I am glad to see these two teams playing. Either Cowboys will be out or Vick will be out, for me a win win.

The eagirls fans love to say D Jackson was open and McScabb missed him but when you are under pressure that happens. Also if you look at the game Austin was pretty much open every play.
Also you got beat at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. That should be your biggest concern. That is where you win and lose the game and that is something you cannot change in a week.

As far as Jackson’s talent is concerned… if he can’t show up in crunch time, then he’s just another over-hyped coach killer like Donovan McNabb. That’s three times in a row the Cowboys have shut him down on offense and special teams. You’d rather have Miles Austin. Nobody shuts him down.

Jenkins is kidding himself if he thinks he’s covering Jackson 1 – 1. Almost every play they had him bracketed with 2 DB’s. One playing underneath and one over top.
The times that they did go straight up 1 – 1, Jackson was running by the guy covering him.
Bottom line however, the ‘Boys had the Birds # in the regular season. Hopefully the fellas come out with guns blazing and don’t hold anything back. It’d be nice to see them move Jackson around
( slot, wing, backfield ) and not just have him lining up on the outside where it’s easier to throw that double team coverage at him.

Desean Jackson 1st game vs Cowboys
6 rec. 110 yards (1 td if he didnt drop it on the 1 on purpose)
    2nd game
2 rec 46 yards (Could have been more but cowboys kept fumbling balls for tds and throwing ints for tds or 80 yard bombs to Baskett, the Eagles stopped throwing the ball)
    3rd game
2 rec 29 yards (That was the 1st game the cowboys shut him down)
    4th game
3 rec 47 yards (lets be honest Desean would have had 2 50 yard tds if Mcnabb didnt over throw him it had nothing to do with the cowboys defense shutting him down)
