Look for a lot of Packers fans in Arizona

Back-to-back division championships and a Super Bowl run still hasn’t created Cardinals hysteria in the desert.

As of Tuesday evening, there were still tickets available to Sunday’s Packers-Cardinals game.  (The team says less than 2,000.)

A sellout looks inevitable, but the available tickets should guarantee a healthy amount of Cheeseheads in the crowd.  In fact, the official Twitter account of the Packers to their followers that tickets were still available Wednesday morning.

“Support the Packers in Arizona!” the tweet said.

We suspect they will do just that.

  1. Look for a lot of Packers fans anywhere. We are just awesome…that’s all 🙂
Now I will wait for a bashing rebuttal from Pervy, DocBG and whoever else…it’s ok to be jealous.

  2. Yet the cries of “Arizona has the WORST fans” from GB will be silent, because that chant is reserved for Vikings fans, regardless of the fact that the Vikings aren’t the only ones in the history of the game to have had a hard time selling out a playoff game.

  3. There was an estimated 25,000 there this past weekend. I think only Steelers fans travel better than Packers fans. And there are a lot of Packer fans in Arizona & Florida.

  4. Why would a bunch of Cowboy fans go to a Cards playoff game???
Oh, for those of you who don’t know… all those bandwagon (this fan base is the epitome of a bandwagon) fan base are all Cowboy fans in Cards clothing.
The Viking fans outnumber these fake Cards fans… The Packer fans outnumber these fake cards fans… basically any visitor not named Jacksonville outnumbers cards fan on any given Sunday.
I hope Green Bay does crush AZ @ Lambeau west…

  5. If you lived in Wisconsin you’d take advantage of every opportunity to get out to. What else is there besides the Packers and ice fishing ? The Packers are the only show in the State.

  6. Does the Cardinal’s stadium have feed troughs for the female Packer fans in attendance?
I hope, for the love of humanity, that the stadium was designed for the additional weight…

  7. @Vladimir
    Ouch man, ouch.
And Sunoco? You’ve for the snow bird thing right, it’s also a haven for teachers finding jobs from MN as well. But seriously, harking on driving skills? I’d like to see you come out and drive well on the currently ice covered roads of the Twin Cities. You’d be a weary elderly driver too if you had to put up with the conditions we do up here…

  8. As a season ticket holder I was at the last game. Packers have a lot of fans, but they weren’t even 10% of the crowd.
The Cards fans will make the place loud.
Anyone thinking the fan base of the Cards and pack fans will be close us retarded. I’ll bet any amount of cash that the ratio isn’t even close.
Dallas has more fans in the area and they only get to around 2o%

  9. Arizona has a tradition of opposing fans selling out their stadium, so that’s nothing new. Viking fans invade that place as well.

  10. Maybe if the Cardinals didn’t require the purchase of tickets to 2 games, when they are only guaranteed one, right at Christmas time, more season ticket holders would buy playoff tickets.
just a thought. this might be standard around the league, but for a franchise that has been traditionally bad, it is not the standard.

  11. “Oh, for those of you who don’t know… all those bandwagon (this fan base is the epitome of a bandwagon) fan base are all Cowboy fans in Cards clothing.”
Does seem to be the case. What’s up with that, anyway? Those people must all have gear from like 4-5 different teams.

  12. “If you lived in Wisconsin you’d take advantage of every opportunity to get out to. What else is there besides the Packers and ice fishing ?”
I saw an ad in the Press-Gazette once that had “The Semi-Annual Brown County Police Bicycle Auction” at the top of their list of off-season “must attend” functions.

  13. “Does the Cardinal’s stadium have feed troughs for the female Packer fans in attendance?”
No, but stadium officials have recently rented 500 t-shirt cannons and bought 25,000 double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu at McDonald’s as a contingency plan.

Of course there are lots of Pack fans in the desert. Rats run wild in the desert. Fat,cheese eating rats.
Jealous of what? We kicked your ass twice..we are so over you guys. Got bigger fish to fry!

  15. @Fan of Football: when it comes to GB, you’re a total dip, and I cringe when I see your name on GB posts (knowing that you can’t help but pile-on whenever given the opportunity), BUT, even as a pack fan living in WI…that was pretty funny….although considering that MN has obesity rate in adults of 25.3% and WI only slightly higher at 26%, probably not much room to talk about spilling into the seat next to you.

  16. Before any idiots want to bring up comparisons to the Vikings of last year (which DID sell out):
The Jan. 17th playoff game at the metrodome is already sold out.

  17. “…stadium officials have recently rented 500 t-shirt cannons and bought 25,000 double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu at McDonald’s as a contingency plan.”
I hope those t-shirt cannons can hold women’s size XXXXXXXXL.
And only 25,000 double cheeseburgers? One 1976 Ford Double Cab Pickup full of female Packer fans will inhale those before halftime…

  18. The Cardinals fanbase is actually pretty good about filling the seats at the new place….and they’re not Dallas fans in disguise.
People still have the wrong perception about their fans…..it was true when they played in Sun Devil Stadium that the other teams would have more fans than the hometime.
TO say that any road team (Including GB/Pitt) would have even 35% of the fans in attendance is pretty ludicruos.
But….I have seen Green Bay fans take over more than half of the Metrodome….not in recent years, but in the 90’s…..when the Vikings weren’t “that good” and didn’t have a third of the fanbase they have now

Dunno what game you were at last year, but the game I was at was damn near a 50/50 split between cards and boys fans, and that is the first time EVER that the cards fans have even come close to outnumbering the Cowboys fans.

  21. I’d say Packers awoke a sleeping dog, but let’s face it Whisenhunt is the best in the tank coach in the NFL and that is where they were last Sunday.

  22. Well Florio, this comes as a surprise to…no one. Have you ever been to AZ? Phoenix is littered with people who moved from the midwest. Hell, if you lived in a place as depressing and cold, with only cows, fat women and farmland for miles and miles wouldn’t you move to the sunny, beautiful desert where tanned, beautiful women are a dime a dozen?
Also, it’s winter. Snowbirds. Those old coots are driving all over the Phoenix streets right now, making illegal moves and driving 10 mph under the speed limit. Some of those old blue hairs will probably show up at the game, too.
But, it won’t matter. AZ has the Pack right where they want them, feeling really good about themselves after ‘blowing out’ the Cards last week. Well, the Cards were going through the motions in that game and the Pack was playing like it was the f’ing SB. Good for you Pack, good for you. You won a meaningless game. Now we will kick your faces in, in front of your cow-women, fat hick men, and old blue hairs with terrible accents. Then you will be relegated to a long winter of snow, cold and depression. Have fun.

  23. What the hell is Puker fan going to eat this coming weekend? A week is hardly enough time for enough road kill to accumulate.

  24. Everyone knows Arizona in the winter is full of retirees from cold weather states. So then friends and family come down for the visits in conjunction with Cardinals games. Not to mention people just getting away for a few days of sun, golf and and to watch their favorite team play a key game.
It’s not like traveling to Buffalo to support your team.
That’s why Cardinals games in December and January against teams from cold weather states are 50/50 crowds.

  25. AZRED Bird, you are delusional. I was at the game and the stadium was a lot more than 10% Packers Fans. In fact it was about 60/40. When the chants of Go Pack Go drown out the PA system, you know there are a lot of Packer Fans…..FACE

  26. Vikefanman- That is a new one. I have never heard that Wisconsinites eat only roadkill.
Good joke. Now for the question you asked me earlier. I would go with the double-barreled Mossberg over the sleeping pills. It’s more of a sure thing. Glad I could help.

  27. AZ fans are getting a taste of what total asshats the Packler fanbase is made up of. I say that not because of the fact that they show up to opposing teams stadiums though. I say this because Cardinal fans are getting a true taste of how arrogant Packler fans are. Last week GB wins a game that means little and now GB fans talk trash about it. If the Pack choke I will be enjoying that for a long time.
I know all about GB super bowl wins and how they have a good defense and a good QB right now. GB and their fans are very unlikeable though. I have been listening to sports talk out of Phoenix and they say the Packlers and their supporters are D-bags.

    Empty Trophy Case?
    Jealous of what?
    “Got bigger fish to fry!”
    Yeah The Vikings

  29. Hell, I went to the game in 2008 and there were 20K Viking fans. Half the states of WI and MN live in AZ in the winter. The cheesers would have no problem beating that attendance figure if they had time to prepare to attend the playoff game. With the exception of the usual dopes posting trash, good for the Pack fans.

  30. I love how people on either side of some arbitrary line think they are so much better or different than those on the other side. Yes, Wisconsinites and Minnesotans, you are exactly the same people, for better or worse. This also extends to people from Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, etc. People from the Midwest are all the same, and in no way is that an insult.
Stop getting your material from Jay Leno and reruns of 1980s episodes of An Evening at the Improv.
For the record, I hate the Vikings, but think the people (and state) of Minnesota are spectacular.

  31. When thew Steelers travel it is unreal how many black and gold clad fans turn out. However, at this year’s Packers game here at Heinz Field, I never saw so many fans dressed in the opposite colors. Where did they get the tickets?

  32. Also, I would think that any Packers fan that is talking trash is doing so simply because their team is playing well lately and not because of last week’s game. Everyone knows the Cards put no effort into it, and I for one am expecting a very tough game this weekend.

  33. Everybody kick back and watch McCarthy get out-coached in another big game.
Who’s he gonna toss under the proverbial bus this time??? Kicker? Defense? His Golden Boy???

  34. I can’t wait for the game to kick off. I’ve been at EVERY home game the Cards have. The place was DEAD last Sunday. No one cared about the game. Most in our Season Ticket crew hung out topside drinking and laughing….worried about DRC a little till he walked out of the tunnel.
The Pack have NO IDEA about the Cards. The Cards went about half speed, no blitzing, simple zone d. The offense showed nothing. Ran the ball a few times, O line was dogging it, Warner threw about 3 serious passes completing 2 of them and the crowd was quiet.
I hope the Pack practices thinking the noise in the stadium will be soft enough for them to hear.
It’ll be so freaking loud in there come Sunday that our ears will be ringing till Tuesday. Yes the dome will be closed.

  35. Viking Fan here….It appears that the Packers are playing well this time of year….Az was a 1 hit wonder last year…Cinderella found her shoe, and the Prince told her F Off….Pack 31 -AZ 13
I am just hoping we can beat the pack for a 3rd time this year…..Yippeeeeee

I feel obligated to point out that most sports talk out of phoenix is idiot homers that couldn’t be objective if their life depended on it. So depending on who you were listening to, you were most likely getting a very skewed version of events.

  37. Hauschild- You are a complete idiot. MM has taken heat numerous times for not calling players out and being too soft. Cite me one example…ONE…of McCarthy throwing one of his guys under the bus.

  38. Packer fans like to pat themselves on the back but people in Arizona will tell you there are a lot of Viking fans in the stadium when they play in Arizona too.

  39. Of course there will be a lot of Packer fans in Arizona. After all this is the last game of the season for them.

  40. Wow – what alot of vitriol thrown toward Packer fans. They must really be evil people. They support their team home or away, in warm weather and bitter cold and in the best and worst of years. When opposing fans come to Lambeau they get some friendly razzing but not pelted with beer, rocks, obscenities (Detroit, Philly, NY, Chicago).
Yeah, and by the way, neither Packer fans nor the Packer team believe that the last game was any indication of the next one but they know enough about football to recognize that McCarthy’s strategy was right for his club while Whizenhunt’s didn’t quite work out as he planned (3 modest injuries). Should be a good game. Go Pack Go.

  41. Hopefully they get some shots of excessively drunk and “Packer Pretty” fans at the game. Those are always a hoot.

  42. i guess we should just wait til the dust settles come Sunday night.
good one stetai, hopefully kurt warner will remember how to play quarterback this game and not 3 games into next season……after all it will all be on his shoulders cause the pack will not allow beanie or hightower to do anything.

  43. Sorry to burst your bubble Red Bird, but it doesn’t sound like the Packers are going to be caught off guard by the Cards or the noise.
McCarthy just a few minutes ago in his presser:
“it wasn’t noisy at all last week… This Sunday will be totally different”
Do you really think the players or staff for the Packers think the Cards gave them their best effort last week?! Of course not, they are all expecting a tough game against a solid opponent, as am I.

  44. Good point McCarthy does get out coached here and there, but hopefully Chilly Ball will take effect and all the talent that we have can bail us out.

  45. I’ve spent a lot of time in Arizona. A lot of the Cardinal season ticket holders don’t live in Arizona. They have the tickets because they live in Canada, or in Seattle, or in Minnesota, or in Green Bay and are snowbirds. They sell the tickets to the games they can’t or don’t want to attend and they keep the 2 or 3 home games they want.
I was down there for the Minnesota debacle and the tickets were gouing for 5 times face value. The tickets for GB last week were going for less than face value.
I would love to use that as proof that Minnesota has better fans willing to pay more for the game but it most likely had more to do with the low importance of the week 17 game.

As opposed to what local sports talk in other cities? Hello??????? Any local sports talk radio station is going to be homers…because it’s FOR THE FANS. That’s why it is LOCAL sports talk radio! Wake up!

  47. “Packer fans like to pat themselves on the back but people in Arizona will tell you there are a lot of Viking fans in the stadium when they play in Arizona too.”
No one cares if Viking fans sold out that game too because everyone knows that they are nothing but bandwagoners who think they know football. And the Viking fans who say they have been fans for 30+ years are flatout lying.

  48. packers4life,
It happens every year the Vikings play a game in Arizona. There’s nothing bandwagon about it. Your other claims are too absurd to even comment on. You must be a Bob Nelson disciple.

  49. Packer fans are taking a lot of heat from Viking posters.
I would retort with trashing Viking fans.
But I’m not, because there are none.

  50. “Yes, Wisconsinites and Minnesotans, you are exactly the same people, for better or worse.”
It’s especially amusing watching people from G.B and Minny attempt to take pride in a bunch of atheletes who almost certainly can’t wait to get the hell out of G.B. or Minny after the season. 🙂

  51. From Packers Facebook page:
Packer fans in the Phoenix area are invited to a Packers G-Force Pep Rally Saturday, Jan. 9th, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, at FOX Sports Grille in Scottsdale, located at 16203 N. Scottsdale Rd.

  52. It’s especially amusing watching people from G.B and Minny attempt to take pride in a bunch of atheletes who almost certainly can’t wait to get the hell out of G.B. or Minny after the season. 🙂
Unfortunetly some of thats true, but GB does attract the people that actually care about FOOTBALL, guys like Reggie White and Woodson, but yeah if like dui’s and getting busted with pot alot. GB isn’t the best place for you.

  53. C. Woodson-
You dont get it. It cant be SKOL Packers, thats a Viking thing. SHUT UP. I’m thinkin I would like to fist fight you.
AZ Red bird, good post about the game and crowd noise. Yea close that dome, Packers cant handle that. They actually think this will be an easy win. And most people are picking them to beat you on the road. Shut em up!!! My brother is a Cards fan (since 75).

  54. Packer fans are the best traveling fans in the league…bar none. Same goes for Badger fans. And speaking of seat widths, the main reason the Vikings want a new stadium is for their fat-ass fans. There are the same number of seats proposed, but the place is 30% larger….all in the fat-ass seats and their extra wide 148 ounce cupholders. And you know the popular “all-you-can-eat” sections that are popping up? Their whole stadium is designated for it.

    ===========================
You sir, earned your asshat of the week award.
Traveling fans my ass! They are transplanted fans.
If it wasn’t for Packer fans, no stadium would sell out, even when they aren’t actually playing the team. Sarcasm intended.
    What an idiot.

  56. Chickenhead….are you daft? At San Diego a few years back there were more green and gold colors than their own. Tampa…same thing…Detroit…same thing. Denver. Kansas City. I could go on and on. THE BEST TRAVELING FANS IN THE LEAGUE…BAR NONE. And the best home field fans too while we’re at it. And why do think the Badgers were asked to play Miami? Because they knew they would have a full-house that’s why, and a long way from home too. I think you are anti-Wisconsin/Packers/etc. (while living in LaCrosse) because your mother force-fed you cheese curds when you were a kid. It’s time to forgive her.

  57. And you don’t think that the fans live at or near those places?
Are you that insane to think your average Packer fan can afford to go to several home Packer games, plus travel to several away games?
The annual salary in Wisconsin would preclude 95 % of fans from being able to do it.
By the way, La Crosse, being in Wisconsin, is only 4 miles from the Minnesota border. It’s also about 60 miles from the iowa border, what is your point?
I actually am a big fan of Cheese curds, dipped in Ranch dressing of course.
I am definitely anti Packer, even moreso after being on this site.
I used to like the Brewers until they moved to the NL.
I could care less about the Bucks, they are never competitive anyway.
I will actually root for Wisconsin basketball, and i don’t care about Wisconsin football, they are satisfied with the Capital One Bowl most years.
    Besides, I root for Oklahoma.
So no, it’s not an anti Wisconsin thing, it’s an anti Packer fan thing, most of you are so unbearable to listen to. it has nothing to do with history, it has everything to do with the fans thinking that its their birthright to have a 12 win team and playoff run every year.
Just like this year, 99% of you are looking past Arizona because of last week and the 3rd preseason game.
It’s the playoffs! There are no gimme games anymore. I really hope the team is looking past them too.
I will leave you to your delusions about the “traveling fans”. It isn’t financially feasible for the average fan to do that.
What color is the sky in your world anyway?

  58. Super- You best pray the Packer goobers don’t have to visit the dome, 3 losses to the Vikings this year will be unbearable. Alcoholism and domestic violence in WI will hit all time highs. Good choice to avoid the big dogs Super. Play with the puppies.

  59. I guess we can agree to disagree. I don’t know how the Packer fans actually arrive at opposing stadiums, I only know what I see and hear….and they represent a lot at opposing stadiums. Hell, the Lions stopped selling single game tickets specifically because of Packer fans. I have seen hometown quarterbacks unable to audible because of Packer fans. So, you can split hairs all you like but the fact remains the Packer Nation is everywhere, and yes, we expect a twelve game win season and a deep effort in the postseason every year. Why shouldn’t we? How many times have you heard an announcer say,”boy, there sure is a lot of purple here today,” at a Vikings road game? How about never, is that a close guess? This year is especially gratifying as a Packer fan because they have done so much better than anyone expected. And they are on a roll. And they are not looking past Arizona, they just don’t care if their feathers got ruffled when they kicked their asses….again. The fans paid full price to see an NFL game, not to watch somebody roll over. The fans should be upset over the results from last week, but not at the Packers.

  60. “They actually think this will be an easy win. ”
Kind of like when Viking fans thought it was going to be a easy win when they played Arizona a few weeks ago only to have their a$$es handed to them?
No Packer fan including myself thinks this is a easy win. It will be a much tougher game than last week.
