Romo, Woodson, Jackson named NFC players of the month

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson and Philadelphia Eagles return man DeSean Jackson have been named the NFC players of the month.

Romo received the offensive player of the month award for leading the Cowboys to three straight wins to end the season and posting a passer rating of at least 100 in four of the Cowboys’ last five games. A month ago all the talk around the NFL was about how the Cowboys were due for a late-season collapse, but Romo has Dallas in the playoffs.

Woodson had two interceptions as the Packers finished their season winning four of their last five games, including an interception that he returned for a 45-yard touchdown in Week 17. He ended the season with nine interceptions, tied for the league lead.

Jackson won the special teams player of the month award for averaging 14.4 yards on eight punt returns, including a 72-yard touchdown. Jackson scored eight touchdowns of 50 or more yards this season, tying an NFL record set by Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch in 1951 and equaled by Devin Hester in 2007.
