The odd situation in Carolina surrounding John Fox just got a little stranger.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Panthers gave John Fox the option to void the final year of his contract if he chose to.
So, to review: The Panthers told Fox he could come back. But he wasn’t going to get a contract extension, and he can leave if he wanted to.
Perhaps Fox would have left if a better job opened up for him, but that hasn’t happened. And the odds are against it happening now.
So Fox remains in Carolina, Bill Cowher looms nearby, and Fox will be mentioned as another big name coach that should be available to fill a vacancy in 2011.
Wish they’d quit with the charade and hire Cowher already.
cmon just leave and come to tampa =)
Regardless of who the coach is in Carolina, they will not be successful without everyone playing as a team. You have Julius Peppers who wants more money than a third world country, and only plays when he decides to. The guy made $1 million a game and decided to play in about 6 or 7 games this season. The other problem is Steve Smith. I know it sounds crazy, but they guy in a team cancer. The offense cannot get moving while worrying about getting him his touches so he won’t cry. If you demand the ball, when Jake forces it to you, you better make a better effort than you did this season and atleast keep the defender from intercepting it. Get rid of those 2 players, along with Chris Gamble, and use all of that money to bring in quality players, who will play hard every down, and this could be a championship team.
I really hope this doesn’t happen. Fox is a good coach.
blackandgold, so you’re saying the panthers need to get rid of their 2 best players, and a top 5 cornerback??
I think Pep wants to be in carolina and I think smith only crys on the days Jake threw 5 interceptions.. Smith knows carolina is a running team and he takes pride in his blocking ability.. Gamble and Marshal are one of the best db duos in the nfl.
Peppers is a lazy monday, noone likes mondays.
I think Mike Fox is a better football coach than Bill Cowher. With that being said, I think both Mike and Carolina could use a fresh start.
Who is this Mike Fox guy? Maybe the Panthers can hire him
Yeah, Mike Fox needs a new start. Too bad John Smith appears to be happy in Atlanta.
It is possible that a couple more openings could come. We could still see Mike Fox leave the city of Carolina.
