Reid says McNabb will be back

The new contract (i.e., the “financial apology”) that Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb received in the offseason included a lot more money but no more years, prompting some to think that McNabb perhaps won’t be back for 2010, the final year of his deal.

Not so, coach Andy Reid said after Saturday night’s deflating loss to the Cowboys, via Sheil Kapadia of philly.com.

McNabb, per Kapadia, even said he’s like to sign another new deal, one that would extend the eleven-year quarterback’s stay beyond 2010.

Still, McNabb has presided over bookend defeats in Texas that resulted in a combined score of 58-14, with McNabb leading the team to only half of those points. And Eagles fans surely will be clamoring for Kevin Kolb to be the quarterback not only of the future, but also of the present.

For a while on Saturday night, it appeared that Philly faithful would want Mike Vick. But after that 76-yard touchdown pass-and-run to Jeremy Maclin, a fumble on a fake handoff to Leonard Weaver took some steam out of the suddenly renewed fascination with Vick.

So, as it now stands, Vick likely will be gone but McNabb and Kolb apparently will be back.

Unless Reid was simply trying to build some leverage for the trade talks that could be in the offing for both Vick and McNabb.
