Del Rio is working on a Trojan staff

With Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio due to meet Tuesday with owner Wayne Weaver amid increasing indications that Del Rio’s future with the team could hinge on the sit-down, Peter King of Sports Illustrated and NBC tells us that Del Rio is making calls to folks who possibly would join him at USC, if he were to get the heave-ho in Jacksonville and land at his alma mater.

Two days ago, Del Rio looked like a long-shot candidate for the Trojans job. But with Oregon State coach Mike Riley, Boise State coach Chris Peterson, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, and Titans coach Jeff Fisher not interested, the job could fall to Del Rio.

And that would potentially reduce, significantly, the money that Del Rio would be owed if Weaver were to cut his seven-year employee loose.

Frankly, we don’t rule out Weaver deciding to stand pat with Del Rio, which would force him to walk away from his current deal if he opted to accept the USC job.
