It’s all part of Wayne Weaver’s diabolical plan:
1) Get Paul Allen to provide an escape route out of USC for Pete Carroll (somebody check to see if there have been any large wire transfers from central Florida to the Pacific Northwest).
2) Dispatch Jack Del Rio to assume the role of Head Coach at USC. This ensures several seasons of (at best) mediocrity for the Trojans and alienates the fan base. Deprived of quality football in Southern California, fans will more accepting of a newly arrived NFL franchise.
3) Sell 51% of the Jaguars to Ed Roski at a handsome profit.
4) Apologize to all Jaguars fans when the new majority owner moves the team to the City of Industry. “I didn’t want to move the team, but there was nothing I could do about it.”
Brilliant.

In all the current events, it’s USC that has taken the hit. The university lost it’s head coach. No one interested in the job? That’s crazy.
If Pete Carroll wanted a challenge, it was there at USC.

As Florio – in one his conspiracy theories that a)kinda makes sense b) doesn’t involve his mancrush Brett Favre – has mentioned a couple time on here – drafting Tebow has little to do with Tebow’s abilities to be a Pro style QB.
It’s about dollars. It’s about putting asses in seats that haven’t had consistent asses in them.
Say what you want about Tebow – but his name alone is gonna sell tickets in Jacksonville. I’m sure Weaver would like to win a SB like every other owner in the league – but he doesn’t have luxury of being in a market like Dallas, or Washington, New York, Boston, Chicago nor do the Jags have the “lore” that the Steelers or Packers do.
It’s about money. Not about whether Tebow can be Peyton Manning.
And whoever is coaching the Jags is gonna have to swallow that.

I think Del Rio is an awesome fit in SoCal. He brings intensity and a down-to-earth personality that I think will relate well to 18-to-21 year olds. The tricky part could be recruiting, but USC kind of sells itself, the coach just has to be the closer.

Cowher won’t go to the Jags.
No matter if full control is given to him – the 1st pick is still Tebow unless he’s already taken. Cowher has suffered through too many QB busts to take that risk again here, not to mention it’s already an uphill battle to attract FA’s in a struggling small market.
Cowher would love MJD; I dunno what else he would though. Gotta remember Cowher probably isn’t begging to get back in to the NFL, the man has options and also can afford to sit in his comfy CBS chair every Sunday cashing cheques for another year.
