Grimm could turn down Bills interview

The Bills have officially asked Cardinals assistant Russ Grimm for an interview, but it’s unclear whether he’ll officially accept the opportunity.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic says Grimm wants to learn more before taking the interview.  ESPN suggested Grimm is expected to turn down the chance.

Timing is also a problem.  Grimm could interview this week under league rules, but the Cardinals are operating on a short week.  It may tough to find time for an interview.

We’re a little surprised Grimm wouldn’t jump at the chance to be a head coach, but he’s been around the interview block before.

Perhaps Grimm lives by the wise words of Oregon State coach Mike Riley, who spoke about his decision to pass on USC’s coaching offer: “I have a new motto. If you are happy, stay happy.”

Good point from Riley. Why leave a cushy gig getting paid good money for one with immense pressure from a lunatic fan base?

It’s more fun to be a smaller fish in bowl of winners than it is to be the big fish in a bowl of turds.
Worst time to interview too. Sends the wrong message to your existing team.
Focus on game @ hand Grimm.

Even an offensive line genius like Grimm couldn’t fix that sieve they have in Buffalo.

the bills job is the worst in the league. bad organization in the front office, cheap owner, horrible scouting department. the coach who is going in there will have to be one who really needs the opportunity.

It’s ridiculous for the Bills to even approach Russ right now. The man is in the middle of a playoff run–and as you point out, operating on a short week. They already have to travel for the game, and he’s supposed to make an extra trip diagonally from one end of the the country to the other for a job interview? Is Nix kidding?
Grimm might consider the job if they contact him after his season is over. Though I agree with Riley. If he’s happy where he is … Why trade a playoff-caliber team in warm and sunny AZ with a coach he knows and trusts for the frozen tundra of Buffalo with its subpar team and uncertain future?

Deb, the Bills fly to him for the interview, not the opposite way around.

    Don’t do it, Russ.
A much better opportunity will come your way if you wait.

Buffalo is a horrible job. The team has little to no talent and the franchise might not be around in a few years. Buffalo will end up with a Fassel or some other jobber. I think the Oakland job is better.

    @Cheesus …
Really? Thanks for the correction. Still, not something I’d want to think about while prepping for the Saints.

    1) pretty sure there’s 31 other teams who will argue that (15 of who may have a case)
    2) been reported that every coach they contact has questioned that statement, and not been provided sufficient evidence
    3) buddy nix. nice try
    4) please name one of these great players other than byrd.
    5) picked mike williams, donte whitner, marshawn lynch, john mccargo, with 1st round picks- all busts
    6) pretty sure 4-12/ 3-13/ 2- 14/ 1-15/ 0-16 are all possiblities
    7) when there’s nothing else to do why not show up to the stadium and get drunk for 3 hours.
