KZ didn’t oversee Palmers regression. And he didn’t playcall this terrible O we have. He actually oversaw Carson’s rise to legitimacy if you want to go there. He’s been in Cincy for most of Palmers time there.

You know…. Lovie’s son is on the defensive coaching staff.
No one is really sure as to what he does here other than collecting a paycheck that is.
There is no good reason why Lovie should have been kept on and plenty of reasons why he should have been dumped.
They did not make a clean break and they did not stay the course with what they had.
Just what the hell are they trying to do other than making sure everyone on Lovie’s Christmas card list gets a share of the pot?
They look even worse now then when the season ended.
They have become toxic.

Darrell Bevell of the Vikings would be a great candidate. He is OC in Minnesota but does not call the plays.
And he already has experience with one high maintenance QB.
It would be a promotion for him.

The bengal offensive line was a real strength this year.. Palmer had a decent year, but that playoff game was bad… he missed recievers that were wide open… the o-line opened holes for a reject of yours, Cedric Benson… zampese should have told Palmer to wear a glove on his throwing hand, for better grip in the cold weather

what pisses me off is the fact that they pay g.m. millions and they make moves like this. who cares who his dad is or who mentored him results are the only thing matter and we seen what he did in cinncy. What pisses me off evan more is that chicago took the most overrated qb out of the afc west.

This guy would be the #1 candidate for the Bengals offensive coordinator job if Bob Bratkowski were to be fired so you really should be thanking the Bears if this is true. For all you idiots out there, Carson Palmer isn’t regressing because of a coach or a system, Carson Palmer is regressing because he doesn’t have the necessary people on his side of the ball to be a legit threat anymore. If the Bengals can re-sign Reggie Kelly and there is progression with Chase Coffman this season, this offense can start to return to its “glory days” in 05. However, Carson won’t ever be the same quarterback as he was then unless he gets more receivers and some better pass blockers on that line.
With Zampese possibly gone maybe Ken Anderson will come back to Cincinnati and be the QB coach since it was reported on this website that Anderson potentially left Pittsburgh because Mike Tomlin ushered him out because he has to much respect to fire him.

You mean the guy who let Carson get his knee blown out? Steinbach was solid but it wasn’t losing him that hurt us…
It was Losing Rich Braham,Willie playing older Levi breaking his knees and losing steinbach all at once was the problem…
The Oline was Solid this year but needs to improve in pass blocking..Zempse wouldn’t be bad He worked with Kurt Warner & Trent Green when they were having good careers…Carson looked good when he was younger so I really wouldn’t fault past 2 years on him.

Hanging on to Lovie Smith is saving the Bears’ ownership more than even they realized…or perhaps hoped for. Keeping Lovie meant not paying him to do nothing, but keeping Lovie also means that in a week or two, I’ll be on Chicago’s radar as a potential OC candidate. Hell, you know what would be even cheaper than hiring me as OC for $100/week? Making Cutler the OC and saving even more money!

Still doesn’t explain why Packer won’t allow QB coach Tom Clements interview for Offensive Coordinator with the Bear.
Isn’t this team possessiveness the same reason for Favre leaving GB mad?
Maybe Packer concern is Clements would develop Cutler and have similar success he had with Aaron Rodgers?

My problem with Zampese would be an issue of philosophy. He, IIRC, runs similar schemes to Norv Turner. Overall, I’m fine with a power run, vertical attack, but you need the personnel for it. The problem for the Bears is that OL. That’s not a physical, mauling OL. Chris Williams is a finesse/athletic tackle. Kreutz is aging and has always been an undersized, leverage guy that carried a mean streak. Beekman isn’t a big mauler. Lance Louis is big, atheltic, and by all accounts, physical, but he’s so raw. Roberto Garza’s a more athletic OG, as is Frank Omiyale. Kevin Shaffer and James Marten aren’t exactly blow you off the ball type guys.
This move would let Lovie keep his run mentality, and I’m not sure I’m a big fan of it. I think Zampese may make a fine OC some day, but I don’t think the fit is here. I’m still a believer that the Bears need to hire an OC that goes to a zone-blocking rushing attack. That benefits the OL, and I believe that benefits Forte. While he was at a disadvantage this year, with the OL being inconsistent for most of the year, he also danced way too much for my tastes. A ZBS type rush scheme may make it easier for him – cut and go.

Ken Zampese’s dad is Ernie Zampese, who was the mentor for Norv Turner, and whose system Mike Martz also uses.
Ernie Zampese was a Don Coryell guy. Martz may have recommended Ken Zampese, and the system he would install would probably be very similar to the Martz/Ernie Zampese/Don Coryell system.
FWIW, Ernie Zampese was also the offensive coordinator who succeeded Norv Turner in Dallas.

Good idea. Take someone who has overseen the regression of Carson Palmer. And taking the QB coach off the 26th-ranked total offense in the NFL and making him an offensive coordinator is always a good idea.
