As expected, Blache retires

When the Redskins hired a new defensive coordinator without firing the one they already had, the evidence was fairly clear that Greg Blache wouldn’t be returning for a seventh season with the team.

And Blache made it official Wednesday night, telling Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune that the 22-year assistant will retire at age 60.

Blache previously worked for the Bears, Colts, and Packers.  At the college level, he spent time at Notre Dame, Tulane, South, and Kansas.

Blache, who played neither college nor pro football, also spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL.

In early 2003, Blache interviewed for the head-coaching position in San Francisco.  He received consideration for other such vacancies based on his performance with the Bears.

As Biggs points out, Blache also interviewed for the Notre Dame job, when Charlie Weis got the job.

Most importantly, Blache is a member of PFT Planet.

Good job, you handled the writing on the wall better than Zorn did.

He was the Bears defensive coordinator a few years ago. He was an idiot. He wasn’t a good coach, either.

bearsrule, you’re the idiot. Blache has been a great coordinator everywhere he went and the players raved about him. How do I know that? because I’ve worked in the NFL and heard the players that have played for him talk about what a stand-up guy he is. And the Redskins were constantly in the top 10 of defense under his watch. And so were the Bears fool.

    boysroll:
Your boys scored 61 points in four games against Blache’s defense. FYI – that’s a whopping 15 points per game. So, if Blache’s defense sucks and the Cowboys offense scored just 15 points per game, what does that say about the Cowboys offense?
Don’t hate just because you know that the Cowboys are going to get plowed this weekend.
PS – I think it’s wonderful that we live in a society where a grown man can profess a love of boys. I’m not homosexual, but you should be proud that you are.

You must be a complete MORON!
I don’t care what their “rank” was.
Anyone who watched that ridiculous cover 2 scheme, no pressure on QB (because Blache doesn’t like “stars”), 10 yards cushion coverage, no sacks, no turnovers, no adjustments… knows that Blache is an incompetent idiot GOOD RIDDANCE!

If you could get over your homosexual lust for Dan Snyder, you and your girlfriend .VoxVeritas or .FuxJerrysAss or whatever it is, would know the record in last 10 Cowgirls-Redskins games is 5-5.

Redskins lost due to poor offensive play. His defense always worked with a short field or with backs to the wall due to turnovers or a 3 and out offense.

Thanks Blache….. you did alright sometimes.

    Like ususal wrong again.
Your team won 7 to 6 and scored in the last minute of the game.
Its so funny how you ALWAYS post something about the redskins. Like I said before we all know you secretly want to be a skins fan. However we do not accept jagoffs to root for our team. Go away and post something about tony homo.

Blache, all things considered, did a good job. At times it looked like a mess, but at times it looked brilliant too. Look at 3rd and 2 and the corners are playing 7 yards deep, next thing you know it’s 57 1/2 minutes into the game and the cowboys are still scoreless. If the Redskins had a consistent offense the last 4 seasons the defense would have held up their end. you can’t expect perfection when the d is on the field for 45 minutes of the game.

and you’re right, somewhere at a Krispy Kreme Albert haynesworth is smiling…………best line of the day, right there.
That kind of comment is why people keep coming to this sight!!!!!!!

I can’t wait to see this board when the Cryboys are finally taken down. We’ll see what these homo Romo fans have to say then.
By the way, I was insulted watching George W. Bush sitting next to Emmit Smith at that Cowboys/Eagles game. Bush should be in prison. And, Emmit looked like his shoe-shine boy.

Blache was a good DC but not a great one. His schemes were ideal for teams with standout pass rushers like the colts and vikings, but the Skins did not have that. The top teams in the league dont necessarily have to have a top 5 defense, but a defense that creates turnovers. You can pull top defenses for the last 10 years and always half the top 10 were not playoff teams. The Skins don’t create turnovers, so as good as Blache was, I think this may help us out. We need more pressure and less reliance on our cover schemes. Hopefully we get better not worse with this change. Anyways, enjoy the retirement Blache, and thanks for everything.

Why in this world would they want Blache gone ? He’s the 1 coach I thought they should keep. I guess Haynesworth’s running his mouth, I mean this D.
