As expected, Blache retires

When the Redskins hired a new defensive coordinator without firing the one they already had, the evidence was fairly clear that Greg Blache wouldn’t be returning for a seventh season with the team.

And Blache made it official Wednesday night, telling Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune that the 22-year assistant will retire at age 60.

Blache previously worked for the Bears, Colts, and Packers. At the college level, he spent time at Notre Dame, Tulane, South, and Kansas.

Blache, who played neither college nor pro football, also spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL.

In early 2003, Blache interviewed for the head-coaching position in San Francisco. He received consideration for other such vacancies based on his performance with the Bears.

As Biggs points out, Blache also interviewed for the Notre Dame job, when Charlie Weis got the job.

Most importantly, Blache is a member of PFT Planet.
