Here’s an interesting post-script to Tuesday’s “we need to try harder” press conference from Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver.
As Weaver made the case for making the franchise better, coach Jack Del Rio apparently had other plans.
Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union explores the intriguing dynamic of an empty chair at the head table, and a “dismayed” team P.R. staff. Del Rio didn’t attend, and no one provided a plausible explanation for his absence.
“Personally, I didn’t feel like it was a press conference for Jack and I to sit together [and sing] ‘Kumbaya,’” Weaver said, after by all appearances performing the song as a solo.
So while Del Rio supposedly is safe for at least another season, something strange is going on in Jacksonville, and it’s the kind of thing that won’t help the team sell more tickets in 2010.

THAN GET OFF OF IT! AND STOP COMMENTING.
@ Vic,
is that the legandary Vic Ketchman of the Jaguars?
can we trade the jaguars for the tuskers?
I had a similar problem with Jack Del Rio on my Madden franchise. I simply asked him to step into my office. When he asked why I replied “cuz’ your fired!”
Someone tell me how DelRio still has a job….
ticket(s)
Florio is just pissed that everytime his WV Moutaineers play in Jacksonville, they get their a-holes handed to them!
Maybe he’s in Alabama
Jack had a hair appointment at the Salon. Then maybe a pedicure. If he had enough time.
Wayne didn’t want everybody booing at a pep rally.
Let me translate that. Del Rio was obviously disappointed the USC job dried up, and he knows he’s a lame duck with a dwindling fan base that has unrealistic expectations of Tim Tebow (Heath Shuler II) coming and ressurrecting them .
They have close to nothing on defense and not enough trade value to do anything but rebuild – esp on the OL, DL and at FS where Reggie Nelson was another bust (joining Derrick Harvey, Quinton Groves, and Reggie Williams). Thankfully they have pocket Hercules, Maurice Jones-Drew and a great TE in Mercedes Lewis
Tebow will sell out every stadium he plays in (including Jax Municipal Stadium) next season LOL
Are we assuming they are playing in Jacksonville next season?
