Giants make Fewell hire official

We continue to extend our Perry Fewell posts in a day record.

Perhaps trying to quiet another interesting coaching rumor, the Giants officially announced Fewell as their next defensive coordinator.

Fewell’s decision means that Chicago is back to square one in their defensive coordinator search.

The hiring could mean a significant change in scheme for the Giants defense. Steve Spagnuolo learned an attacking style from the late Jim Johnson in Philadelphia. Bill Sheridan tried to continue that style unsuccessfully. Fewell learned a Cover Two style at the feet of Lovie Smith in St. Louis.

Then again, Fewell also coached under Dick Jauron in Buffalo and Jauron was Tom Coughlin’s coordinator back in Jacksonville. Fewell likely got a great recommendation from his old boss.

And that should do it for Fewell for the day. Thanks for being part of something special.
