I can’t understand why Vollmer wasn’t platying left tackle afyer he cam back from his injury. Light should have been placed on the right side. But then again, since the last superbowl the Pats haven’t been able to stop the rush up the middle.

Vollmer starts and Light is on the bench. You cannot let Light go because of single most important word regarding O-lines. That word: DEPTH.
There is no question that Light is on the decline but he is waaay to valuable to let go. He is not only a solid leader but a player that FULLY understands the schemes.
Pats keep Light and bring him off the bench when needed. Vollmer starts! Servus!

Yes, Kaczur is limited at best, Belichick is on record saying that the team tried Light at RT when he was a rookie and that it didn’t work. I doubt that he’d be any better at the position now. If they can’t trade him, then they’re likely to cut him.

Matt Light played fine when he was healthy. Kazur was the liability on the O-line. He messed up the Colts game by letting Mathis abuse him. Keep light at LT start Vollmer at RT and upgrade RG, Neil has been hurt and ineffective. And most importantly develop a run first mentallity like the one you had in 01-06

Yeah, after watching the Ravens game and the way Lewis and Thuggs, I mean Suggs, man-handled that offensive line, I’m thinking that 4.5 mill ought to buy better “leadership” than that.
Vollmer is the perfect stud at the perfect time, coming in as Light’s skills are obviously declining. In the NFL, you don’t pay a guy for what he DID, you pay him for what he can DO.
Light stills has enough of the “shine” to attract some good offers (what the hell, they got a Number 1 for Seymour who was more in decline than Light!), and he’s clearly not worth 4.5 large.

Matt Light is a BLIND SIDE tackle for 4.5 million dollars. That’s a cheap one. Anyone who thinks Light is over-paid is dumb. Is he on the decline? Yes. Is he replaceable? Sure.

I would like to see him moved to RT but I don’t see it happening. There are alot of OT needy teams (hello KC, Oakland etc) in the NFL. Best bet trade him to move up in draft or for a 2nd or 3rd round pick,
Kazur is not the answer at RT better coming off the bench in a backup role.
Sign Wilfork and get Mankins and Gotkowski under long term contracts.

NEdirect is right. Tell him “You’re moving to right tackle”.
If he wants to stay then he’ll make the move. Belichick said once he tried him there and that he didn’t do that well. He was a rookie back then. Tell him you move to right tackle or you move on. They gotta get that Frankenstein Kazcur off the field ASAP. He’s not an NFL caliber starting RT. He just doesn’t have quick enuff feet. By sticking Light there, you strengthen BOTH sides of the line. Gotta resign Mankins. Sounds like Neal is gonna retire, put the Penn St. kid there.
I’m sure thats what he was drafted for, to be Neal’s eventual replacement. Then go get Anquan Boldin or Brandon Marshall. AND Steven Jackson. And go get some freakin pass rushers !

I’m sure they would like to trade him but idk what team is willing to take a guy with this contract whose not playing well. The difference between him and Seymore is Seymore can still be a force. Matt “holding penalty” Light hasn’t been very good in a while. That said Al Davis doesn’t seem to mind how ‘good’ a player is…

He could sign an extention thus reducing his overall salary. Exchange cash for security. Light is one of the few leaders on the offense.

trading him would require the new team to pay the exorbitant 4.5 million dollar salary as well though. Unless they worked out a new deal with him that spread out the money over a few years.

Id be willing to bet 15 teams would make a trade for him if the Patriots were willing to pay some of his salary. Probably a 3rd or 4th rounder too. Hell Randy Moss was traded for a 3rd rounder, and Richard Seymour was traded for a first, so with the Patriots and trades for draft picks, who knows. The may deals with teams that no other team could manage, its amazing…

My guess is Belichick will trade him while he still has some value left. KC and Denver are obvious destinations, but maybe a team like Green Bay who needs the OL help will give up a 3rd or 4th to make a Super Bowl run.
I can’t imagine Belichick just letting him go in ’11 for nothing, with or without a cap.
