Trojans reached out to Gruden

Though the folks at Southern Cal hired a former Raiders coach to succeed Pete Carroll, another former Raiders coach was even higher on their list.

We received a tip earlier in the week that Jon Gruden was contacted by the Trojans to gauge his interest in the USC job.  We didn’t follow up on it before the news broke that Lane Kiffin had the job.

We’re now told that, indeed, the Trojans contacted Gruden, who again reiterated that he won’t be coaching in 2010.

So look for Gruden to be back on Monday Night Football in 2010, saying great things about all the worst teams in the league.

Not a Trojans fan, but would have loved to see that angry face roaming the sidelines at the college level.

So true. And he says them with a lack of originality and a gratingly whiny voice. I just don’t see the attraction.

Was anyone watching or listening to Mke & Mike this AM? Gruden was on at around 6:40 and when asked about being contacted by Tenn for the opening, not only did he not deny interest, he gushed about sitting down with a pad and paper and designing new ways to use the spread offense and trying to figure out new ways to score. He also became a tad emotional, saying he was “blown away” by the developments at Tenn over the last 48 hours. As he put it, it was where he met his wife where he got his coaching start. He then went on and on about how fun it would be to recruit kids, to go into the houses of his former players and talk to their kids about playing. I heard no denials or anything related, and he clearly sounded like someone ready for a new coaching challenge, college or pro.

I liked Gruden at first, but the shtick gets old after a while. Apparently, there are no bad teams/players in the NFL!
He’s still a huge upgrade over Kornheiser in that he knows football and loves to talk about it. I’m waiting for Gruden and Jaws to go at it one of these days, though. You can sense that they aren’t exactly best buds.

Too bad the Raiders didn’t play on the real monday night. Stupid playing the second first monday night game? I would of LOVED to hear Jon try to find something nice to say about JaWalrus Bustell. Other than he can throw it really really far!

As opposed to you Mike, who hates everything and everyone equally. Personally, I’ll take the lover over the hater any day of the week.

John Gruden is the best thing to happen in football and any team in the world would be lucky to have him as their coach. Find me ANYONE who loved football more than Gru and I’ll give you a dollar.

LeAgUemvp – you just upped your DUMBA$$ quotient by 100 points with those 2 idiotic posts.
Everyone who wrote nothing on this thread had a better post than your 2 stupid attempts.
In other unrelated news – Take a look in the nearest mirror and you’ll see who the one is that really sux.

Either mike f is your boyfriend or you are a die hard skins fan. Either way you lose.
But lets examine my posts to determine the level of idiocy. I said mike f is a hater, that statement checks out pretty good, most will agree. I said scott p’s post was better, it was. Check there as well. Lastly, I said the skins suck, I think that one is the most obvious of all the bombs I dropped on you and your boyfriend.
Also, do me a favor and have an original thought for once in your life and stop stealing my lines to boost your lackluster attempts at trash talk.
I’d love to hear your reply to those FACTS of life.
