Willie Brown calls it a career

As the Vikings prepare for a shot at returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1976 season, the guy who cemented their last of four losses on sports’ biggest stage is ending his long affiliation with the NFL.

Raiders assistant coach Willie Brown is retiring, according to CSNBayArea.com. The news came directly from Brown, as he was leaving the team’s facility on Wednesday.

The team has yet to announce the move.

Brown played for the Raiders from 1967 through 1978. He also played for the Broncos from 1963 through 1966, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984.

Brown worked as an assistant coach with the Raiders from 1979 through 1988 and from 1995 through 2009.
