Deuce is back for the Saints

In a weekend that could be chock full of “wow” moments, let’s start warming up for the next few days.

Wow.

A league source tells us that veteran running back Deuce McAllister will be rejoining the Saints in time for Saturday’s home playoff game against the Cardinals.

The Saints could easily clear a roster spot by cutting quarterback Chase Daniel, who was signed two weeks ago for the regular-season finale, given that quarterback Drew Brees was given the day off.

McAllister was released by the Saints in the offseason, and he has since signed with no one. He has a four-game suspension hanging over his head, given his membership in the StarCaps six.

But with the league suspending all suspensions pending resolution of the litigation filed by Vikings defensive tackles Pat and Kevin Williams, McAllister is free to sign with any team.

Running back Pierre Thomas has been practicing this week with a rib injury, and it’s possible the McAllister would actually be needed. The more likely explanation is that the Saints are hoping to blow the roof off the Superdome on Saturday after slumping down the stretch.

Adding McAllister will only add to the excitement that the fans will be feeling as the Cardinals roll into town.

UPDATE: Dave Cohen of WWL.com had the story up as of 12:02 p.m. ET, so he beat us to the punch. Cohen!
