Ochocinco going to the Pro Bowl

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is going to the Pro Bowl.

Although the Bengals didn’t have a single Pro Bowler when the rosters were first announced (making them the first division winner since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger not to have anyone make the Pro Bowl), Ochocinco will be going as an injury replacement. Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker will not play because of the knee injury he suffered in the regular-season finale, and first alternate Randy Moss also won’t play because of an injury. Ochocinco is next on the list.

Ochocinco dismissed the significance of the Pro Bowl when the rosters were announced, but he said today that he’s thrilled to be going.

This is extremely great news,” Ochocinco said. “I appreciate the recognition of the body of work I put in this season. But please let me share with my teammates. Cedric Benson — none of it would have happened without him. And Carson [Palmer] and my offensive line and everybody. I love you all.”

This is Ochocinco’s sixth Pro Bowl selection.

I voted for him. He deserves it.

Chad Johnson thinking of someone other than himself? Who is this guy?

  3. Fike Mlorio says: Jan 15, 2010 11:19 AM

vincent jackson is being robbed, but hes still playing and brandon marshall, wes welker, randy moss, andre johnson, and ochocinco arent, so i guess he shouldnt complain

  4. PolegoJim says: Jan 15, 2010 11:20 AM

How about this headline: ‘Ochocinco goes…away’ to grow up.

  5. Roboto says: Jan 15, 2010 11:20 AM

    I think he’s overrated.

  6. drumbug71 says: Jan 15, 2010 11:21 AM

Has Randy Moss ever gone to a ProBowl after losing in the playoffs? I remember he was voted in after the 07 perfect season, but after they lost the Superbowl, he made some excuse why he couldnt go. Sounds like a sore loser to me….

  7. tacious says: Jan 15, 2010 11:23 AM

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone… he showed us exactly why he deserves to go to the pro bowl against the Jets (2) weeks in a row!

  8. Frank Burns says: Jan 15, 2010 11:24 AM

Ochostinko really stepped up in the playoffs huh.
He’s as much of a big-game choker as Carson Palmer.
OK, maybe not to that level, but he’s close.

  9. TheVillain112 says: Jan 15, 2010 11:25 AM

I still can’t believe that Shonn Greene’s backup is the first alternate and Cedric Benson is not at RB for the Pro Bowl.

Well hopefully he’ll make the pro bowl interesting by doing something stupid. He’s an amazing talent but has always stuck me as someone who “doesn’t get it”.

  12. XLI says: Jan 15, 2010 11:32 AM

“He deserves it” for what exactly?
As stated before, here are his stats for this season.
    Yards: 20th
    Receptions: 26th
    Avg Per Rec: 31st
    TDs: 10th
    Longest: 79th
    Rec of 20+: 13th
    Yds/Gm: 23rd
    Fumbles: Tied for 3rd
    Yards after Catch: 62nd
    1st Down Catches: 15th
This is one of the most mediocre seasons he’s had in a long, long time.
If you base the Pro Bowl on things like Performance, Stats, and Production and not things Sideshows, Distractions, and Ego then Chad Johnson should not be selected ahead of more deserving players.

  13. RIP__21 says: Jan 15, 2010 11:34 AM

People need to stop voting for Randy Moss. He hasnt shown up since his rookie season.

  14. DC_Bengals_Fan says: Jan 15, 2010 11:44 AM

Ocho had a good season, but he’s right – Benson not getting in is a total joke.

  16. Roboto says: Jan 15, 2010 11:49 AM

Steelers, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, and Mike Wallace ALL should be in the Pro Bowl. Also, Big Ben!

  17. IanWhetstone says: Jan 15, 2010 11:54 AM

Vincent Jackson is indeed being robbed, as are both Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward with the likes of Chad Johnson, Brandon Marshall, and Wes Welker all apparently getting in line ahead of them. Wes Welker as a first-team All-Pro is a joke.

  18. Stradivarius says: Jan 15, 2010 11:54 AM

Its a shame that the ‘body of work’ doesn’t factor in the nothingness contributed in their playoff game.

  19. crispy says: Jan 15, 2010 11:55 AM

That’s okay, Vincent will get in because Reggie won’t be playing.
Next Quarterback, two DEs and one TE and one Center also will get late invites…

  20. LovinBlue says: Jan 15, 2010 11:58 AM

OchoCinco tweeted that he and Chris Johnson will race each other while they’re there. Winner will donate their Pro Bowl check to Haitian relief fund. I used to think 85 was a self-absorbed jerk, but have grown to really like and respect him.

  21. LovinBlue says: Jan 15, 2010 11:59 AM

*oops – meant to say the loser would donate their check!

  22. SterilizeTHenry says: Jan 15, 2010 12:04 PM

Shonn Greene’s backup? Thomas Jones had 1400 yards, and 14 Tds. Greene had 500 yards and 2 Tds.

  23. goJags says: Jan 15, 2010 12:05 PM

Is it the same Ocho thats complimenting others? I can’t really believe it.

  24. i'm president charlie! says: Jan 15, 2010 12:06 PM

can anyone update me on what Ochocino has been tweeting since the playoff failboat?
luckily he won’t have to go up against Revis in the Pro Bowl! LOL-a-copter!

  25. jzimmpa says: Jan 15, 2010 12:17 PM

    Drumbug,
Randy Moss has been selected to 7 Pro Bowls. Playing in 3. He has won ZERO Super Bowls. To answer your question, yes, he has played in Pro Bowls after having a losing season.
    Pro bowl Years:
    1998: Played in PB
    1999: Played in PB
2000: Set PB recored with 212 REC yards.
    2002: Didnt play
    2003: Didnt play
    2007: Didnt play
    2009: Wont play
As he gets older, his interest in playing in the game will go down. I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt PLAY in another PB game the rest of his career.

  26. Howie Feltersnatch says: Jan 15, 2010 12:24 PM

Great…now ochostinko can show the world how he gets shut down…again. Darrelle had it right most of the game-get in his grill and stay there. The kid can’t handle the good bump n run corners.

  27. yem123 says: Jan 15, 2010 12:36 PM

Can’t fault Ocho for getting shut down by Revis…. EVERYONE was shut down by Revis this year. Andre Johnson, TO, Moss, Steve Smith, etc.

  28. Katmanduu says: Jan 15, 2010 12:39 PM

Just another reason to not watch this dog of a game.

  29. I didn't hear no bell. says: Jan 15, 2010 12:40 PM

So now Ochocinco is a pro-bowler? Talk about watering down an achievement. So basically the more people who are injured/don’t play the more pro-bowlers are created? Way to pad the resume.

Chad Johnson thinking of someone other than himself? Who is this guy?
    ====================================
As someone who isn’t a Bengals fan but thought the guy was funny, I started following him on twitter this year. I can tell you I am now a Chad OchoCinco fan, not so much because of his antics, but because he does in fact spend a lot of time thinking of others. I can’t tell you how many times this whole season he spent taking his fans out for meals or to the movies or flying them to games, things like that.
Yeah, the guy clowns around a lot, and I can understand why some people don’t appreciate it. But he also does a LOT to give back. In fact, right now he’s orchestrating a tour bus trip to Miami, where he’s taking 10 people with him to go from city to city to help out at hospitals, food banks, shelters and the like.
So love or hate the guy, but the idea that he only thinks of himself is absolutely ludicrous.

  31. CurseofBoJackson says: Jan 15, 2010 12:50 PM

Still seeing a lot of sniffles here, you guys want a tissue or ten? The guy had a damn good year considering the offensive gameplanner and playcaller, not to mention the pass thrower and the stellar RB that got most of the work but none of the recognition.
But, alas, who cares, it’s the pro bowl, whoopty doo. Any fan or player would gladly trade it in to be playing this weekend or further.

  32. TheFALZ says: Jan 15, 2010 12:58 PM

Chad is one of the best route runners in football.
    stop hatin on the dude.
    congrats chad

wtf? ok, huge bengal fan here, and Ocho is easily capable of probowl talent.. but what did he do this year? come on son!! put in v jackson or b marshall before ocho!!
oh well, WHO DEY! Go Ocho You deserved this big guy!! (for the reason of becoming a good person :D)

    —————————————————-
    Do you watch the playoffs?
    Thomas Jones – 15 carries, 34 yards
    Shonn Greene – 21 carries, 135 yards
Greene will get more carries against the Chargers as well.

  35. texasPHINSfan says: Jan 15, 2010 1:19 PM

As annoying as Chad can be, deep down he’s has a genuine good spirit. Good guy, does a lot for people, and quite an entertainer as well.
    Good for Chad.

  38. Igottz5onit says: Jan 15, 2010 1:42 PM

He is good but he did not deserve it this year, there were just several receivers that had a better year, such as Hines ward and Louis Murphy even.

  39. jm91rs says: Jan 15, 2010 2:00 PM

I don’t think any of us who actually watched chad this year think he lost much (except his mouth). His quarterback was no help, the other receivers on the team garnered no attention from the defense, and the game plan was shifted towards a heavy rushing attack. His numbers aren’t pro bowl numbers this year, but to say he’s overrated isn’t accurate either.

  40. CBsuperbowl says: Jan 15, 2010 2:35 PM

    @TheVillain112
Are you retarded, the Probowl isn’t based on playoff stats, its based on what is done during the season. Thomas Jones 1400+ yards Shonn Greene 540 yards who do you think deserves to go. This idiot must be a Steelers fan.

  41. FireJerryJones says: Jan 15, 2010 2:37 PM

Remember a few years ago when Vince Young went? He was 8th-9th alternate. Plenty of guys go who don’t deserve it, Chad’s one of them this time.
