Saints announce return of Deuce

It’s official.

Running back Deuce McAllister has rejoined the New Orleans Saints, after a hiatus of more than a full year.

Though there’s a good chance that McAllister’s return is aimed at getting the black-and-gold faithful even more fired up on Saturday (we assume there will be at least one “F–k Da Cardinals” shirt displayed during the broadcast), they might be able to get some use out of Deuce, especially if running back Pierre Thomas is limited due to a rib injury.

“I’m speechless,” McAllister said in a team-issued release, before proving that he really was capable of speaking.  “I don’t know that there are words to describe this feeling.  I do know that we have some unfinished business that we started a few years ago and we want to finish the deal.”

“Deuce is a huge part of the history of our club and of what has gotten this team to where we are today and we absolutely wanted him with us as we head into the playoffs,” G.M. Mickey Loomis said in the same release.

“Deuce McAllister has always embodied the spirit of the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans,” added coach Sean Payton.  “We’re excited to have him back with the team and to have him lead us out on to the field tomorrow.”

The biggest question is whether he’ll actually be wearing a football uniform, or whether he’ll be one of the eight inactive players.

One guy who’ll be wearing a uniform is quarterback Chase Daniel.  To make room for Deuce, the Saints placed defensive tackle Rodney Leisle on injured reserve, due to a knee injury.  So look for Daniel to be the emergency quarterback.

  1. Awesome. I love this franchise, even though they are not my team. They can say what they want about Pierre Thomas being hurt, but this move is about a classy franchise rewarding a classy player. There is absolutely nothing bad that can come from this, and here’s hoping that McAllister and the rest of the Saints get a ring this year. They deserve it and the city deserves it.

  3. Now this fella has been running around Jackson, Mississippi taking care of his car dealerships and trying to open up a miniature golf course, where he partnered with Tracy McGrady, called Mac and Bones! Now he is about to go from business man to football player?
You guys remember when Ricky Williams tried to come back and play after his hiatus? Second play, someone stepped on him and cracked his ribs?
    This will be interesting!

  4. DDDDEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! The Dome is gonna be crazy tomorrow. Best news possible for my Saints.

  5. What does a DT going on injured reserve and the signing of a RB have to do with Chase Daniel being the emergency QB?
An I missing something from a past article?

  6. Realitypolice, I think you hit the nail on the head. They are my team and I LOVE that they have done this! Deuce has given Louisiana and the Saints a lot to cheer about over the years, and he DESERVES this! Geaux Saints and Geaux Deuce!

  7. If they face the Colts in the Super Bowl, are they going to sign Archie Manning as the 3rd/emergency quarterback?

  8. I’m a Saints fan, so I appreciate the kind words, realitypolice. But I wonder if it’s not just a gimmick to try to amp up the fans even more.

  9. great to hear this for the saints and deuce. i’m a colts fan, born and raised in Indy, but my family is from NO. i’ve followed the saints since they got my college QB drew brees.
great team, classy organization. nice to see this.
geaux saints (until they meet the colts)…

  10. ????? What is so classy about this move dude? The guy took performance enhancing drugs. Embarrassed himself and the franchise. Now thats classy.

  11. Thank you realitypolice, it’s nice to hear some friendly comments about our team, it seems we get a lot of “they don’t deserve it” comments and that, to be honest, is hurtful. Those are the people who have no idea what this team or this city is about. Again, thank you for your comments.

  12. Ha…hopefully they get curb stomped on Saturday by a real classy team in Kurt Warner’s Cardinals.
GO CARDS! Win the Super Bowl!

  13. Hell yes!
Deuce on the sideline is huge if only as a moral booster! He was the heart and soul of the team for some time and the fact that they brought him back for a taste of the playoffs is just amazing.
I can’t recall a team ever doing something like this before – and I like it a lot!

Hey moron. Deuce did not take a performance enhancing drug. He took StarCaps which contained a diuretic that can sometimes be used as a masking agent for steroids. Everyone knows that the company pumping the product PURPOSELY misled consumers and left out that the product had that substance in it AND we know that the NFL knew about it and DIDN’T warn the players EVEN when they called the banned substance hotline. Deuce is easily one of the top 10 classiest men to come out of the NFL in the last decade. The case is STILL under review in court so before you disparage the guy get your facts straight.

  15. Nice. I like a franchise that recognizes the contributions of guys like him. People in NoLa love Deuce, even when Reggie Bush was hot. Good for him and good for the Saints.

Go drive your BMW into a wall, douchebag!!! That would be classy! Let me guess, you saw him take steroids? Now go fix my car bitch.

Surely a smart guy like you also knows Starcaps is also used to help with weight.

  19. yem123 “what does DT Rodney Leisle have to do with Chase Daniel as the emergency QB?”
Chase is on the “practice squad”. In order for him to be eligible to play in an “emergency”, they had to take a current roster position and give it to him. That’s why DT Rodney Leisle is now on injured reserve.
