Since the folks at ESPN have offered up two different views on whether Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco still has a hip injury, we decided to take a break from all this typing . . . to do some more typing.
The typing in this case involved the Qwerty keyboard on the PFT Sprint Blackberry Tour, and the typing harvested some reliable information regarding the condition of Flacco.
So please commence the drum roll (assuming you haven’t noticed the headline).
ESPN’s Suzy Kolber says Flacco isn’t injured. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Flacco is.
And the Accuracy in Sports Stories Having Only Limited Effect award goes to . . . me.
We’re told that Flacco is injured, but that he is a certainty to play. As one source explained it, every player has an injury at this stage of the season.
“If Flacco played another position,” the source said. “No one would care.”
In our view, the difference in the reports arises from the realities of direct access. Kolber is a sideline reporter who meets with players and coaches before games. So she gets self-serving information directly from the players and the coaches, and she isn’t inclined to call them liars, since she needs them to be willing to talk to her the next time she’s covering their team.
Schefter operates from a much broader perspective. He’s typically (cough . . . Shanahan . . . cough) not required to accept what he’s told at face value. So he’s not relying on production meetings or other direct vehicles for gathering information, and he can routinely report things that don’t mesh with the party line that the team is parroting.
So there’s the answer.
Flacco is still hurt, but Flacco will play.
Denis Leary has nothing on you Florio.
EVERYONE IS HURT AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. THX FOR POSTING TURDS. ALSO ESPN IS ESPN FOR A REASON THEY ROCK. I LIKE YOUR LIL SKATEBOARD POSTINGS WHEN IM BOARD BUT IF I WANT REAL SPORTS INFO AND NOT SOMEONE ALWAYS JUST TALKN SMACK ABOUT THE SAME SHITE THAN I GO ESPN. DORK
Mike: So that’s how you turn a hobby into a full time job…..
“Flacco is injured, and Flacco will play”
What a headline. This story is definitely not worth the server space it is taking up somewhere.
That was quite possibly the most informative and analytical post I’ve read on this site.
Not the bit about Flacco, but the part analyzing why two reporters have conflicting information. That was actually informative. I’m impressed. Not terribly much, but still pleasantly surprised.
Three straight columns on this QB (my God!)
Maybe you should change the name to: JoeFlaccoTalk.com
Whooo – BEazy – ALL CAPS! Nobody gives a shit about what you think especially Florio. Later D-Bag
Someone has to explain to me how the Ravens can escape the same discipline the Jets were subject to on the Favre issue for not listing Flacco on their injury report.
BEazy: So I assume that ESPN is better for people who can’t spell?
Trust the Scheft!
The Terry Bradshaw story was more interesting than this waffling. Any chance you can let people know if T.B. is still alive?
I will be at the game tonight after driving through NJ-PA-WV(ew)-OH-and half of Indiana. Colts are gonna bury Flacco!
@JaggedMark – that’s damn funny!
CHOO CHOO…..CHUGGA CHUGGA CHOO CHOO!!!!
That’s the excuse train…..which will be chugging fast after the Ravens get their fannies toasted tonight.
I met Snookie last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody that watched last week’s game against New England already knew Flacco was hurting.
He’s got a sore hip and Sam Malone has reported on “I On Sports” that Flacco also has a groin injury. A groiiiiiiiiiin injury.
A groiiiiiiiiiin Ah Ah
Groiiiiiiin Ah Ah
A Gr-gr-gr-groin injury.

That’s easy. Because the GM of the Ravens, Ozzie Newsome, didn’t admit to it. Not to mention, the injury report is a joke for coaches. Harbaugh listed Suggs and Reed as questionable for several weeks this year when everyone knew they would not play.
And, yes, I know Favre running his mouth caused issues, but it further shows why the NFL Injury Report enforcement is a complete joke.
@katmanduu That’s the excuse train…..which will be chugging fast after the Ravens get their fannies toasted tonight.
I had the same thoughts Tommorow will be full of those…
Oh, Mike, you’re so clever!

I would have never guessed that the two of you would be out today. Didn’t hear much from you this week after the Ravens toasted the Pats. Oh, but wait. Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, the water boy, Belichick’s clipboard were all hurt last week so that doesn’t count.
Enjoy tonight’s game. I would love to hear from you both if the Ravens take down the #1 seed again this year.
This way, if Flacco sucks again, Ravens fans can blame his “injury”.
Is that a Major Award?
Kudos for the Cheers ref! But can’t they get rid of groin injuries by switching all fields to grass?
I think the Colts will win. But, the Ravens can pull it out because they have a good defense and running game.
Congrats on the award Florio, well deserved.
A**hole
hey Katmanduu just wondering when is the steelers next game?
