For the record, “reverse racism” would refer to one NOT exhiting racist behavior or tendencies. There are many comments in here that would not qualify under the “reverse racism” label. Dungy saying he would hire a respected, long time assistant that played in the league and may be ready for his shot (and happens to be black) over a a coach that failed to make his mark (twice) in the league, is not racist. I do not believe color is a factor when it comes NFL coaching ability. Knowledge of the game (say, maybe from playing), and respect from the players (possibly because you played) are. All else being equal; if Carroll were black and Frazier were white, it would (I believe) make perfect sense, no? And lastly…when making your “I’m white and would appreciate blacks staying in their place” comments, could you at least take a few moments to spell and grammar-check them? Thank you.
p.s.
I respect what Pete Carroll did in college, and since I bleed Seahawk Blue and Green, I hope the third NFL stop for him is a charm, but think about how racist what he said was…you wouldn’t have taken issue if he’d said he’d have hired Jason Garrett, for instance.

For hizzle1281: The Rooney rule, named for the long time owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, requires teams undergoing a coaching search to interview at least one minority candidate. Nothing about the eventual hire, simply an interview. Prior to the rule minority candidates were largely left out of the hiring process. Since it was implemented, a lot of minority candidates have at least gotten a look…and sometimes that exposure will lead to a job down the line.

We all know the Rooney Rule is a disgrace to this country and Dungy is a racist pile of crap. That doesn’t give the rest of you license to spew your ignorant bigotry on here as well.
I hate Dungy as much as anyone, but in this case he’s right, Frazier was the better man for the job by far. Let’s see.. Washed up, outdated retread whose only success has come at the college level; or young, savvy, up-and-comer who ranks among the most knowledgeable coordinators in the league, even in the eyes of this lifelong Viking hater? Hmmm.. Tough call there…
Seattle was right not to hire Dungy, but they should have at least given Frazier another look. Of course, even keeping Mora would have been a much better move than giving Carroll a third franchise to destroy. I hope you enjoyed being competitive while it lasted, Seahawk fans.

On Jan 9th, I sent an email to Mike Florio stating that his comments of sham and attacking the Seahawks was wrong. At the time, I said he would be very surprised when the news finally came out and that he might want to dig deeper before saying the awful words he used.
He refused to believe me and only after word gets out does he post something proving I was right and he was so wrong.
I requested an apology and for him to post that he was wrong on here and he has refused.
Any good reporter will post when they are right or wrong. He doesn’t fit in that category, it seems.

Skin color has nothing to do with it.
First Dungy has help build 2 Superbowl teams, so I’m going to trust him over Seattle’s owner. Frazier has good buzz around the league the last few years. It is Dungy’s opinion. However, it is also my opinion that Frazier would have been the better pick than Carol, which is why the interview lasted 4 hours. It could have started out as a shame, but turned into something more.
It is a mistake to go after a coach so hard when you don’t have you president/GM in place first. Thus you have the owner’s making the decision instead of football people ala Synder and Al Davis.
Carol was hired before he took interview, not because he was white. That’s who ownership wanted. There was no search no second interview. He was just hired. There are only a handful of coaches I would do that for. Cower would be at the top of that list.
Carol hasn’t been around the league in 8 years, the league has changed a great deal. Carol believes that college players and pro players are the same. There is no messurement for EGO, media, and out-side distractions.
Carol may do well, but I honestly don’t think he will given the chaos he was hired into.

Would Dungy have been forced to interview white candidates or would he have just been allowed to interview only one candidate (and then hire) who happened to be the same race as he?
And is he saying he would have hired Frazier without even interviewing him? Or does Dungy conduct interviews without even being in a position to hire a head coach?
This from the man who wrongly claims the Rooney rule’s porpose is to slow down the process and get teams to interview many candidates. Yet he knows who he would have hired without interviewing ANYONE!

Im so glad everyones finally starting to wake up and realize what a dirtbag Dungy really is. This guy is a racist and somehow its ok for him to get away with being this way. Why? Because the guy goes to church or had a family tragedy? I hate it when people feel theres racism going on in places where it isnt. We are past the point in society where a team will not hire a coach because of the color of his skin. Those days are over. I feel like he would have hired Frasier solely because he is black, and that is definitely racist.
Its hard for society to move forward on the race issue when you have people constantly stirring the pot looking for trouble in places where it no longer is.

It seems that African Americans pull the race card at every chance & with this article its obvious that Whites do it at every chance too. What a shame how petty differences hold this world back…
Maybe one day it won’t be like that, but I have feeling that it will never happen. Its a shame because we really all are equal given a level playing field.

I find it interesting that Tony Dungy has been able to maintain a rep as a “class guy” despite the fact the he essentially admitted to lying down 2 years ago to let the Titans into the playoffs, makes apologies for a monster like Michael Vick, and continuously makes statements that cannot be considered anything but racist. Had a white player committed Vick’s crimes, would Dungy have gone to bat for him?

They dont have a clue about what’s happening because, unlike you, they only hang out with other white men. Its only natural, right? When a white man hires someone for a job, more often than not he chooses the person who is most like him–the person who makes him “comfortable.”
Because these white men are so severely lacking self-awareness, they dont even notice that theyre still the majority and theyre still very much in power. But a lack of self-awareness makes people paranoid–especially white guys. So the mere mention of words like “black,” or “latino,” or the hint of “different,” just freaks them out.
But you’re above all of this because you have black friends, right?

As far as him not being a great coach and giving all the credit to Manning, look at how great the Bucs did after the first year he was gone and Gruden had a chance to make it his own team. Maybe just maybe the Colts found another good black HC. Peyton is definately the coach of the offense, which is the reason why the colts are so good. Are you watching the game tonight. He told Caldwell two times right before the half that he was staying on the field to run more plays instead of kicking the field goal. If Tony Dungy was the glue that held the colts together, why were they about to go 16-0 in the regular season with a rookie head coach? The only reason they didn’t go 16-0 is because Peyton didn’t play.

Wait a minute here. Dungy would have hired Frazier? For some reason I see and smell racism here. Dungy is an african american and so is Frazier. So, Dungy after interviewing Pete Carroll would have said your not good enough? When will the “Whitey Rule” be implicated in the league? After all, in the next 45 years whites will be the minority they say. This is all just totally unreal. Just because your this race doesn’t mean you can just hire that race. Think outside the box. Go with the best qualified. If a white man is forced to interview and hire a minority candidate, shouldn’t an african american man be forced to interview and hire a white guy? They need to do away with this rule ASAP.
