Brad Childress: It's Cowboys' job to stop us from scoring

When told that Dallas Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking called the Vikings’ final touchdown classless, Minnesota coach Brad Childress was unsympathetic.

“As Lou Holtz used to say, ‘It’s our job to score points and it’s their job to stop us from scoring points,’” Childress said.

Childress was backed up by Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who said he takes issue with Brooking’s suggestion that he did something unsportsmanlike by throwing a touchdown pass when the game was already in hand.

“Anybody that knows me knows I’m not about that,” Favre said.

Apparently Brooking doesn’t know Favre, because Brooking tried to confront Favre on the field and ripped the Vikings’ final touchdown in the locker room afterward.  We have a feeling he’ll have more to say this week.

What a douchey move. Completely classless. I hope they get hammered by the Saints next week.
Or by the JETS in the Superbowl.

Who cares! Brooking is apparently emotional

    Chilly’s right.

  5. xacvol says: Jan 17, 2010 9:43 PM

An offense’s job is to put points on the board.
A defense’s job is to prevent points being put on the board.
Well, I guess the Cowboy’s Offense and Defense shouldnt get paid this week, because none of them did thier job.
    Yikes.

  6. zeke777 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:43 PM

Is Brooking for real? He’s a Cowboy for Chissakes. Tell him to take a look at that classy stadium they just built. Evidently God was rooting for a different team today. Cry me a river Keith, you didn’t seem to have an issue with whooping the Eagles the last two weeks. What, Miles Austin didn’t get to do his 1st down theatrics all day long today? What a douche. COWBOYS = ONE PLAYOFF WIN IN 13 YEARS. Good work.

I don’t think any vikings will lose any sleep over how Keith Brookings feels. Just remembering 75′s hail mary would be enough to squash any sympathy one would have. Bring on the saints, would love to run up the score on them as well :)

  10. t_backus says: Jan 17, 2010 9:46 PM

boo hoo… the ‘Boys got beat. I say everyone should try to run it up on them. Makes the world happy.

  11. Igottz5onit says: Jan 17, 2010 9:47 PM

I have got to admit I think Brad Childress is hilarious. He is the cockiest guy that looks like a penis with a wig on that I have ever seen. Remember when he told a disgruntled former player that he was made of twisted steel when confronted? Classic.

  12. Fan_Of_ Four says: Jan 17, 2010 9:47 PM

There is no crying in football Keith. Stop being a little !3itch.

  13. MrHumble says: Jan 17, 2010 9:47 PM

Look a couple plays before that last td and you will see the same Brookings doin’ a little unsportsmanlike activity on I believe it was B. Berrian after he caught a sideline pass. Brookings plants his forearm into the jugglar of Berrian and pushes down for several seconds. Viking players talked about that after the game, so perhaps it was a little “payback”. Brookings is a loser and a poor one at that. Blame the Vikings when it’s his job to stop the other team from scoring. Also, in 1996 da’ boys were leading Green Bay 18-3 with seconds remaining in the game and instead of taking a knee, they called timeout so they could kick a record 7th field goal in the game.

  14. Occam says: Jan 17, 2010 9:49 PM

What he should say is, “I’m sorry for acting like a crying little girl. I want my mommy.”

  15. darrius_heyward-bey-butterfingers says: Jan 17, 2010 9:49 PM

If only everyone played with the humility of MILES AUSTIN(!!!). He was a class act each time he caught a pass. All 4 times, demonstrably celebrating all 34 of his yards.

  16. Gbp123 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:49 PM

Why is Childress even allowed to talk. He should just defer everything to Favre. The only intelligent thing he’s ever done was to listen to Tony Dungy and hire Leslie Frazier.
If you listen to the PC he actually compared the game to Sherman riding through the south. What planet does he live on.

  17. cowboys1 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:49 PM

Brad Childress should just shut up and let the real coach, Brett Favre, do all the talking. the vikings whopped our ass. plain and simple, they didnt have to score another TD but the D should definetly be quiet and just take it, they got outplayed. Good luck to the vikings but I seriously hope they fire childress and hire favre as HC, he is a waste.

  18. pkrlvr says: Jan 17, 2010 9:50 PM

    Darkchild, you’re the douche.

  19. gopher says: Jan 17, 2010 9:51 PM

Brookings can talk all he wants. The linebackers are the weak part of the Dallas defense and he is one of them. I think he might have been better served trying to stop the Vikings instead of jumping up and down in the pregame to get his team fired up, it seems that did not work either.

  20. dogman04 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:51 PM

Chilly always catches hell for not be aggressive enough at the end of games. Now when he cements a win he catches hell. Brooking is a cry baby. So much for being the hottest team in the NFC.

  21. purpleloki says: Jan 17, 2010 9:51 PM

Hey Brooking, go cry to your mother! Didn’t you sissies run up the score two consecutive weeks on the Eagles? Just retire so we don’t have hear you cry any more.

  22. bob _ nelson says: Jan 17, 2010 9:52 PM

Brooking sounds like a Packer fan bitch.I use a Packer fans face for my toilet paper. Its a win win for both of us.I feel better and they look better.Jimmysmith,PLEASE stop trying to get back toghter with me ITS OVER!!!!!!!!.
Packer fans are the most classless people in the world of sports, but these cowboys come pretty darn close .The jealousey of both these fans is pretty pathedic.

  23. Voice of Football says: Jan 17, 2010 9:53 PM

Cowboys calling another team “classless”. Ooooh, that’s a hoot!!!

  24. Fan of Football says: Jan 17, 2010 9:54 PM

Chilly is absolutely right. And you want to talk about a classless move? What about the hit on Favre that came 5 seconds after the whistle? Karma is a B Cowboys.

  25. CanadianVikingFan says: Jan 17, 2010 9:54 PM

Keith Brooking, or do you prefer Keep Bitching?
Either way, you’re classless for going after Brett and Brad on the sidelines and calling them classless. Would you rather them play their secondary teams and throw picks to you guys to show that is your only way of stopping them?

  26. Big_McLargeHuge says: Jan 17, 2010 9:55 PM

I can’t believe there is always such a hissy fit about this.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RUNNING UP THE SCORE.
Last time I checked Keith Brooking was being paid to prevent the Vikings offense from scoring. Nobody calls it quits in an NFL game. From starters to backups the opportunity to score is always there.
Karlos Dansby didn’t have a pity party when New Orleans gashed them for 45 points…
    Suck it up Brooking

  27. stevemcguigan says: Jan 17, 2010 9:55 PM

The league will always rise up against the Cowboys. Guess what, guys? Everyone hates you for a reason.

  28. The Notorious V.I.C. says: Jan 17, 2010 9:56 PM

It’s as simple as this – It’s the Vikings’ job to worry about the Vikings and the Cowboys’ job to worry about the Cowboys.
Whatever they choose to do when the ball is in their possesion is Minnesota’s business. They, or any other team for that matter, don’t have to explain anything to anybody. Maybe the coach wants to practice a certain pass play in case they need to use it down the line. Maybe they don’t think a running play would’ve had any chance of success on 4th and 3. Who knows? It’s their choice to do whatever they want to do with the ball while it is in their possession.
The only way this would be bad sportsmanship would be if Favre and/or Shiancoe got all up in Brooking’s face and started trash talking or taunting him after the TD. They didn’t, so it wasn’t. Be a f’ing professional, Brooking!

  29. pmm0455 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:56 PM

  31. AFWiredawg says: Jan 17, 2010 9:58 PM

Leave him alone…he probably crying his eyes out as we all type these comments. I thought someone in another post put it best….I didn’t see Brookings dumb ass trying to talk anyone down from scoring against the Eagles a week or so ago….

  32. Alzado's Vein says: Jan 17, 2010 9:58 PM

Send Keith back to Atlanta so we don’t have to hear him talk anymore.

  33. wrath4771 says: Jan 17, 2010 9:59 PM

Yeah anyone who knows Farve knows he’s not about audibling out of a run to throw a deep pass to stick it to TT or McCarthy. It is the Cowboys job to keep the Vikings from scoring – and you know, if that means taking Farve out at the knee – well, anyone who knows Keith Brookings knows he’s not about that.

  34. PatricktheDookie says: Jan 17, 2010 9:59 PM

  40. polishkingski says: Jan 17, 2010 10:03 PM

i just did not read that k. brooking was seeking out b. farve after the game? please, that cannot be right, right? because if it is, what the fxxk was the purpose? so farve could take his jock off and make brooking smell it? give it a rest brooking. not only are you out of line but to think your going to set one of the greatest qb`s of alltime “straight” is so funny that i have nothing to add to that possible hilarious moment except that your a money chasing a-hole…..should have stayed with the falcons. no worry about big wins there anytime soon.

  41. dextermorgan says: Jan 17, 2010 10:03 PM

Is this pro football? Maybe the reason the Vikings crushed the Boys today had a lot to do with Keith Brookings own inability to get the job done. Brookings should fade away.

  42. mixman34 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:03 PM

Sine when did football become more about feelings and sympathy then stomping the snot out of your opponent!?
Am I missing something? Poor Brooking… maybe he’d like to see the NFL implement some sort of “No Child Left Behind” act…
Until then… go cry to your mammy…

  46. SaintsBucsPanthersSUKK says: Jan 17, 2010 10:05 PM

Keith acted like a classless ninny this ’09 season when his Boys were beating his ex-team, the Falcons, celebrating in an ostentatious fashion like some hikk winning 20 bucks from a scratch-off lottery ticket. One of the most overpaid players in the league 2005-2008, wished we kept Chris Draft around. Poor Keith mad ‘cos his team was kicked around like a soccer ball at a Mexican public park. Wah wah wah. Grow up old man and take it like Kim K to-nite from a smiling Reggie Bush. Drill baby drill.

  48. BroncFanOr says: Jan 17, 2010 10:06 PM

    How was it classless?
They called a play that Dallas didn’t stop.
Isn’t it the job of the offense to score?
Isn’t the defense supposed to try and stop that?
It’s just sour grapes by the losing team and it’s fans.
I guess the Vikings should have just kneeled three times and them punted.

  50. Andy Reid's Third Chin says: Jan 17, 2010 10:08 PM

Actually, classless would describe the Cowboys from the opening kickoff. Jumping up and down, shit talking, and pointing to the home teams fans every time Marion Barber and Miles Austin broke off a whopping 3 yard run or a 6 yard pass, or every time a Dallas defender made a tackle.
Do fast food workers celebrate after each burger that gets cooked?
Keith Brooking needs to just go get his diaper changed and ride on out to pasture where he belongs.

  51. Outsyder says: Jan 17, 2010 10:09 PM

  52. KUALUM15 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:12 PM

Farve has just shown how out of touch he is with reality and he feels he can do no wrong. It was a completely classless move and the game was already won. I hope the Saints roll up on the Vikings and Favre finally leaves for good.

  53. NathanExplosion says: Jan 17, 2010 10:13 PM

So if he’s out there on defense and is winning 27-3 late in a game, is he just going to roll over and let the offense score?
I doubt it. If the defense doesn’t stop playing, why should an offense?

  56. favre_dollar_footlong says: Jan 17, 2010 10:15 PM

I guarantee if the cowboys were as good as the vikings they would of done the same thing…miles austin was trying to be a cock ass in the begining but we shut his ass down too…it all comes down to the statement “Americas Team” they think they should get different treatmeant..this is the nfl not college, you get paid to do this. not to mention we played conservative the last quarter, we should of had at least 14 more points..so suck on another playoff loss.
Any packers or cowboys fans have any comments or are they still busy crying?

  57. BlueBlood says: Jan 17, 2010 10:16 PM

Congrats to the Vikes and their fans. Vikes are unquestionably the better team. Slightly a-hole move but whatever. This game has a 44-6 kinda feel to it. Game plan was a clone of Denvers in week 4.

  58. All BALLS says: Jan 17, 2010 10:16 PM

What happened Keith? Your pregame theatrics or should I say gyrations, didn’t fire up the BOYS today!!?! Oh yeah and Brett, you are like that. Wasn’t one of the issues Chilly had with Favre this year was when he audibled out of a run play late in the Packer game this year when that game was in hand? Keith is an idiot. Favre is a selfish JERK! There its settled.

Brad Childress is a joke. He should shut up and let the real coach, Favre, do all the talking. The cowboys got beat by a better team for sure, but childress has nothing to do with it, his job was over once he got favre there, he should be fired after the superbowl and they should make #4 the new HC

Never quite understood a player, coach or fan playing the “WAAAAAAAAHHHH – you hurt my feelings card.”
    It reeks of today’s “I’m a victim – it’s always somebody else’s fault” society.
Where else can people get away with “Boo hoo – the hot coffee I ordered was little too hot for my liking, so let’s sue for millions”?
It’s especially lame when NFL millionaires cry about being the victim.
Pretty weak, Brooking. Pretty damned weak.

  63. pbuck says: Jan 17, 2010 10:21 PM

Old time 49er Fan (glory days of the 80′s) and I have no problem with running up the score, whether for or against. Especially during the playoffs.
Jumping up and down after you make a basic tackle or giving that silly 1st down signal from a WR is goofy. Did anyone see the Colt receivers immediately giving the ball and running to the line of scrimmage at end of 1st half yesterday? That’s why they scored. Be prepared to play the entire game. If you lose, be quiet and work harder, don’t whine.
Silly dances isn’t the way to make an opponent not want to play you. Running up the score is the best way to embarrass, humiliate and destroy the very will of your opponent(s) on national tv is. I love to see it.

  64. cowboys282 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:22 PM

What goes around will come around. The cowboys will see the Vikings next year in the regular season and their quarterback will not be Bret Favre. All the Vikings fans who act just as classless as their quarterback and coach remember this day. When your team has no history of Superbowl wins you have to use a win like this to showcase your team. Well Philly beat us in 2008 44-6 to prevent us from going to the playofffs. This year the cowboys didn’t forget and beat them 3 times and twice pretty badly. I hope you win the superbowl because next year will not be as much fun for you especially that day you will face the Dallas Cowboys.

  65. JaredAllen69 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:22 PM

  68. Ceedub says: Jan 17, 2010 10:25 PM

My guess is that this classless display of sportsmanship by Brooking will have him cleaning out his locker at Happy Valley permanently. You don’t make a spectacle of yourself on national TV and embarrass your team worse than the butt whipping they already got. Brooking needs to grow a pair of gonads and man up. You don’t act like a pop warner kid having a temper tantrum on the sideline because you and your team weren’t ready to play football.

  69. Hotrod445 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:25 PM

    Kick a field goal?
    Run for a touchdown?
    Take a knee?
    Punt?
This isn’t junior high, and it wasn’t like the Vikes were up by 40 at the time. They also ran the ball almost every play of the drive prior to the 4th-and-2 touchdown play.
Get over it; not a big deal at all. Brooking should be embarassed. Cowboys fans that are angry about this should be embarassed

  72. Purple People Eater says: Jan 17, 2010 10:29 PM

So the point of the comment is the defense is complaining that an offense scored points against their defense? This despite the fact that that the complaining defense held receivers all day without getting flagged and still couldnt stop them. Your ass got beat, but to watch the game and the fist-pumping, trash talking your defense did on the field you would have thought that you were winning. Now the other defense, which made no comments, sacked your quarterback, caused fumbles, intercepted passes and stuff runners. Seems to me like one defense doesnt talk… they just walk the walk

  73. Sow Crates says: Jan 17, 2010 10:31 PM

It was 4th down with less than a minute to play. Say what you want about Keith Brooking, the Vikings have no excuse for not simply kicking a field goal and calling it a day. If somebody got hurt on that final play this discussion would be A LOT different

  74. Purple People Eater says: Jan 17, 2010 10:31 PM

  81. Viper21 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:47 PM

Well, I DO think it is/was a classless move to throw the ball there. The classy move would’ve been to run it. Having said that, you just walk away. You dont act like a douche & cry on their sidelines like Brooking did.
The comparisons to the Cowboys victory over the Eagles is ridiculous. The cowboys werent up 24pts with the game essentially over & tossed another TD. Same with Saints comparison….unfounded. The Saints were in that game & made a nice comeback, only lost by 7.
I do agree the Vikes were within their rights to score there. Im just one who thinks it IS a classless move. Had the tables been reversed, I would’ve thought it classless as well.
Doesnt matter now. Vikes were the better team today, clearly. Im probably in the minority of Cowboys fans but, will be rooting for the Old Man to win it all now. Ive never been a fan of any team than the Cowboys since the mid 70′s. However, impossible to not be a fan of some players, especially after your team is out of it. I’d personally like to see Favre win it & retire for good on top.

  82. Roxtar10 says: Jan 17, 2010 10:47 PM

Clearly the Cowboys thought they were still in it – which is why they called timeouts! Just because Favre and the Vikes put an emphatic end to it, Brooking needs to unbunch his panties, put on the big boy pants and take his lumps. No whining from the Cards. No crybaby antics from Phillip Rivers – a renowned crybaby. The Ravens took their beating and didn’t charge the sidelines….but it’s the Vikings that are classless?
    Got it.
If anyone should be complaining and crying, it should be Jared Allen! He gets paid to stop other team’s offenses, and he didn’t get the chance today — because the Cowgirls didn’t show up.

  83. Sober says: Jan 17, 2010 10:49 PM

I would have had no problem if they ran it an Peterson scored a touchdown because they were working the clock. But they threw it as well as the previous set of downs to try and get another touchdown when way ahead and no chance of the other team coming back.

  84. Tebow's a Douche says: Jan 17, 2010 10:49 PM

I live in Wisconsin and i hate the packers with a passion but i have to say that brett favre is a total loser. he needs to always be in the media. What he did to the packers organization was unforgivable and i cant wait for that man to eat shit and not win another super bowl.

    ——————————————————–
OK, let me get this straight. If the Vikings win the Super Bowl this year, and then by some unlikely reason lose to the Cowboys in the REGULAR season next year, then the Vikings will be sorry they ever tried to score that last touchdown? You cannot be serious.
As a Viking fan, I could care less what happens next year if we win the Super Bowl this year. If all I have to do is trade a 2010 regular season loss next year for a Lombardi Trophy, consider it done.
Also, there’s no way the Vikings get beat 34-3 (or worse) by the Cowboys next year, so I can’t imagine a scenario where that victory, however unlikely, would feel better for Cowboy fans than this one does for us Viking fans.
Lastly, on the Vikings possession before the last TD, they were trying to run down the clock, and Dallas called 3 consecutive timeouts while down 24 with 6:00 to play. After a turnover on downs, the Vikings score with 1:55 to play. If the Cowboys refused to concede a victory just one possession prior, why is it such a crime for the Vikings to try to score on the next one? Shut up and enjoy the offseason.

I have never got this whole concept in American sports of “running up the score”(I am Australian). I sort of understand it in junior sports so kids don’t get too disheartened, but with adults jeez. You play your hardest to the whistle none of this backing off so you don’t hurt the other teams feelings. Keith Brooking has just had his little heart broken again so we should give him some cookies & milk and i nice big hug. Boo fricken Hoo. Oh by the way did i mention that the cowboys SUCK!!!

You don’t make a spectacle of yourself on national TV and embarrass your team worse than the butt whipping they already got. Brooking needs to grow a pair of gonads and man up. You don’t act like a pop warner kid having a temper tantrum on the sideline because you and your team weren’t ready to play football.

I do not believe the Cowboys ran the score up on the Eagles (very few passes thrown in the fourth quarter of either game).

baxstar everything you say all hinges on the fact that the Vikings win the Superbowl. Knowing the history of the Vikings I would say with 2 games to go that is far from a certainty. Lets not forget how bad the Vikings were on the road this year. Take it from a fan who has been a part of 5 winning superbowl teams don’t celebrate before you win it. And if you don’t win then you are in the same boat as the Cowboys the only difference being you will not have a proven Quarterback next year and we will.
As far as a rematch Brookings is already talking about cicrcling this game on the calander. We circled the Eagles games this year after being embarrassed the year before by them and in 3 games we outscored them 78-30 and they had there QB return from the year before which the Vikings will not have.
So enjoy the playoffs and hope you win the Superbowl because if you don’t then you join the Cowboys and the other 31 teams as losers. Then 2010 will come and on the day the rematch happens that last touchdown will be all the Cowboys will be thinking about. So have fun the rest of the playoffs and see you next year.

  113. Johnnyb612 says: Jan 18, 2010 12:59 AM

This is the kind of behavior you can expect from a team that’s been total losers for 50 years! It’s hard for teams who have won championships to understand this, but running up the score when they have the chance makes losers feel better about themselves. Don’t worry people, hell will freeze over before the Minnesota Vikings win a super bowl. They find a way to screw it up EVERY year. That’s right, EVERY year. I really hope they make it to the superbowl and get their asses handed to them by the Jets, the very same team that Brett screwed over last year to become a queen. It would be like a 2 for 1 and would be better than Christmas. Vikings, 0-5 in superbowls! Bank on it…LOSERS!!!!

They Cowboys are OVERRATED, and I am glad that we destroyed the so-called hottest team in the NFL that everyone allegedly feared playing in the playoffs.

  132. Tompadre says: Jan 18, 2010 6:05 AM

I just watched replays of the TD from several angles and I’m not entirely sure the Vikings called a play to throw it in the endzone.
It’s possible they went for it on 4th down to get the 1st down and then run out the clock. A run play, especially with Dallas anticipating it, didn’t stand a good chance of being successful, so they decided to pass. If incomplete the clock stops on the change of possession anyways.
The Vikings sent three players out – Greg Lewis was double covered as he ran a crossing pattern just beyond the first down, Shiancoe ran a deeper pattern in the endzone (possibly to draw defenders away from Lewis) and Tahi who was covered in the flat short of the needed yardage. (Obviously Dallas didn’t do due diligence in their scouting as there is never a need to cover Tahi)
Dallas came with pressure and Favre had to get rid of it. Shiancoe was the only one of the three who was remotely open.
If the Vikings were really trying to run up the score, would two-thirds of the receivers in the pattern be made up of Lewis & Tahi?

If the game is over, don’t call timeouts to stop the clock. If you refuse to give up, don’t expect the other team to give up. It’s that simple.
Brooking is obviously a sore loser. The Cowboys were bewildered and it is apparent they believed their own press clippings.
Personally, I was hoping to see TJack play the final 7 minutes. I think that would’ve been more salt in the wound.

Then 2010 will come and on the day the rematch happens that last touchdown will be all the Cowboys will be thinking about. So have fun the rest of the playoffs and see you next year.”
    ————————————————-
First of all, nice math. Cowboys + 31 other losers? Who wins the Super Bowl if there is 32 losers?
Secondly, the only reason I brought up the Vikings winning the Super Bowl is because you said in your previous post you hoped we won the Super Bowl this year because next year we would have to face the Cowboys in the regular season and we would regret running up the score.
The point is, I don’t care about next year, my team is still alive. Your team isn’t, because we absolutely destroyed you yesterday.
I love your last line because I recognize it so well as a Vikings fan. “See you next year”. Ha, if that’s all you’ve got to say, then just shut up and take your beating. Unless, of course, you are Keith Brooking. Then you can call me classless.
P.S. How ironic is Brooking coming over to the Vikings sideline to yell at coaches/players that THEY are the ones who are classless. Excuse me, aren’t you the crybaby that’s going all the way across the field to complain about scoring a touchdown, Brooking?

I seem to remember him flapping his arms every time he was near a play when they beat on the Falcons earlier this year.. Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it soldier? Just get back to being mediocre, what you’re most well known for as of late.

As a Cowboy fan for over 40 years I can say without hesitation, that I would have done the same thing. If Dallas’ “D” don’t like it, then stop them. They gave up on the play.
If anyone wants to point a finger, point it at the OL, they sucked, and so did Garret’s play calling. They get 2 or 3 1st downs by running between the tackles, then try a Wildcat formation or Barber around the end? POS play calling and lazy OL play.

My boys had a hell of a year. Win the NFC EAST and a playoff game. Dominate the NFC EAST again for 2 of 3 yrs. Beagles, Midgets and 4skins would love to have that going for them. We have alot to build off.
Viks played an awesome game and Favre for a 40 yr old guy is incredible. I hope the saints kick their ass though. I would have pulled for viks but cannot stand that classless coach. Win with dignity and humility you bald headed loser coach. When Favre leaves he will be fired.

Eagles fan here. The Cowboys beat and they beat us for 60 minutes. They were the better team. Big deal…easy to admit.
I’m surprised that fans of the Cowboys have any leg to stand on when it comes to running up the score. Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson made careers out of humiliating opponenets.
The Cowboys got what they deserved. Marion Barber danced after 3 yard gains and don’t even get me started on that clown Miles Austin. He’s got twice the swagger on Michael Irvin and a quarter of the talent.

  161. ham1 says: Jan 18, 2010 9:22 AM

Cowboys accusing another team of being classless? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. How about the Cowboys players putting on theatrics every time they had a gain of 4 or more yards in the game until they were down by 17. Yeah they are a classy bunch alright.
The play called was a play action underneath roll out designed to get a first down. Cowboys covered it up. Brett went to the third receiver for a TD. Don’t blow it out of proportion.
Classless as it may have been, it pales in comparison to Brookings running to our sideline and trying to harrass our coach with his team down 31. Now THAT was classless. Bunch of sore losers.

  170. Bob Loblaw says: Jan 18, 2010 9:50 AM

What is lost is there was almost 2 minutes left (TD scored with 1:55 left) and a 24 point lead. A FG would have been viewed as much as piling on as going into the end zone.
So basically Brookings wanted the Vikings to take a pity knee or run into the stacked line of scrimmage for a 4th play in a row. That would have given the Cowboys the ball down three scores (TDs with 2-pt conversions) with 2 minutes left.
Sure it would have been the most improbable comeback in playoff history, but why even allow the possibility?
A big play TD with 2-pt conversion followed by a successful onside kick would have given the Cowboys the ball at midfield down 2 scores with around 1:30 left. I don’t care if the comeback stalls from there, just that scenerio would have led to a ton of second guessing of Brad Childress for not going for the score.
Then Brookings would have criticized the Vikings for being so arrogant that they stopped playing with 2 minutes left and not respecting the Cowboys ability to come back.

  171. stetai says: Jan 18, 2010 9:54 AM

    1. The pass was made on 4th down, following 3 rushes to run the clock out. If they threw 4 times, then that might be overly aggressive, but on 4th down i the red zone, it’s either TD or 0 points.
    2. If they wanted to “run up the score” then they would’ve kicked the easy FG, passing for a 10yd TD is not a given, and had they missed it would’ve been 0 points. Favre referenced when Dallas did that to GB in the mid 90′s where the game was over and they kicked another FG to get a record and REggie White amont others were upset about it. Now THAT was running up the score.

  172. stefanovich says: Jan 18, 2010 9:54 AM

Yeah, the Patriots are classless when they run up the score, but when the Vikings do it, it’s just how the game is played. OK.

  173. Tom W says: Jan 18, 2010 9:59 AM

This is just funny. The Cowboys of all teams are calling the Vikings classless. Sounds like something to complain about so the Cowboys and their fans can forget about the fact that they got beat. The classless move of the day was the Cowboys not running out of the tunnel when announced and waiting until Joe Kapp, former Viking QB, was introduced. I have had season tickets for 15 years – and have never seen anything like that before.
Again, all this crying is just funny.

At the end of the day, Mr. Brooking will always be remembered as the “classless” individual he truly is. If the ‘Boys didn’t like it, they should have stopped them. Period.

The Vikings were putting on a show at home. I might – might – feel differently if they were on the road embarrassing the Cowboys at their house, but I doubt it. Home field fans want to see their team score. They paid for the tickets and they don’t care about your delicate sensibilities.

It was 4th and 3, and they probably wouldn’t have converted the play had they run like the Cowboys were expecting(Cowboys ran an all out zero blitz, probably trying to injure someone)….so they called a pass play and Favre got the ball out of his hand quickly. It just so happens that the Cowboys D was just as pathetic on the final play of the game as they had been the rest of the game. I swear I’ve seen this story before on ESPN about a girls high school basketball game, and feelings being hurt by a run up score. I also love all of the trash talk…Oh, we’ll see you next year. It’s ok because we’re coming back next year. The Cowboys are awful on the road and that won’t change next year. Even if Favre isn’t back. Romo dropped back to pass (and was subsequently sacked). Borrowing your words, “Up by 24, less than 2 minutes left and throw the ball?
