Warner says retirement won't be "a long, drawn-out thing"

Kurt Warner isn’t planning a Brett Favre-style retirement decision.

Warner, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback who may have played the final game of his NFL career in Saturday’s loss to the Saints, said after the game that he wants to make his decision in a way that allows the Cardinals’ franchise to plan appropriately.

“I don’t have a target date but I am going to get away,” Warner said. “I have thought about it a lot and have some ideas in my head, but want to get away from the season for a minute and make sure what you’re feeling stays that way. I don’t think it will be a long drawn-out thing. I wouldn’t want to do that to an organization.”

As Josh Alper noted in today’s Cardinals-Saints one-liners, Warner says the brutal hit that briefly knocked him out of Saturday’s game will have no bearing on his decision.

Had that hit happened to Tammy Brady, there’d be a new rule in effect by the Super Bowl not allowing blocks on QB’s in the open field.

Kurt is waiting for God to tell him whether or not the contract is big enough.

Bearsrule couldn’t of said it better.

Kurt has nothing left to prove and I belive is now a Hall of Famer.
While he has overe $10M reasons to come back, he can easily shift into a broadcaster role and speaking gigs, and….Kurt could run for office someday with his picture perfect family and strong beliefs that will excite the Red State voters.
Itis the right time to move on.

Here’s hoping hew does not retire. His presence is reinforcement that resiliency sometimes pays off. I am assuming that he won’t risk his health in doing so…….otherwise he should retire if that is an issue. And the Cardinals are fun to watch.

He still has his grocery bagging skills to fall back on.

warner will retire, take a year off, then unretire and join the Rams

He’s not going to pull a Brent!?

Brady isnt ever in the position Warner was. When he throws an interception, he’s on the sidelines, screaming and throwing his helmet, before the intercepting defender is on the ground.

Shouldn’t that hit have been a penalty anyway? That new “Heinz Ward” Rule that went into effect after he hit that defenseless Bengle?
I think he is going to retire. I don’t think he would have let this news go public even before the season ended unless he was very serious about it.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but, ugh, bearsrule is right.

I think after that hit he may think a little longer.
Why are some of you thinking the hit should have been a penalty? He was clearly in the play and attempting to make an effort to aid in the tackle. It’s not like he was just jogging around 20 yards away. Any way i hope he retires for his own well being. Kurt has always hung on to the ball and has taken some big hit’s, he was close to going out last night.

Warner is saying: “I’m going to consider my options in a mature and reasonable way, make a decision, and stick with it. Obviously, it wouldn’t be fair to my teammates or organization to leave them wondering if I’ll be there or not, or having chronic questions about my commitment to the team. I understand it’s not all about me. In other words, I’m not an immature, selfish prick like Brett Favre.”

East Bay has it right… Kurt Warner is a stand up guy…Total classs…..I want to see Favre pull his end of the year choke….

I hope to see Warner come back. The guy is still playing the game at a high level and makes the Cardinals a lot of fun to watch.

Yeah, I’m sure Kurt will do whatever Brenda tells him to do…

I have always liked Kurt Warner. I would hate to think that he went out like that. It would have been nice to see him go out on top.

they can have Leinart play their division games and have Warner play the other 10 games lol

He’s taking some time to consider a big change in his and his family’s lives. Like an adult. I know we aren’t used to that, but give him a break.

He should come back if the Cards plan of fielding an actual Defense..

You do know the Cards got swept by the Niners this year with Kurt Warner. They will not have a chance in the weak west with out Warner.
