Jim Mora Sr. has a bad temper, and a dirty mouth

Not long ago, I heard for the first time that the two Jim Moras who have each coached two NFL teams have reputations for having hot tempers.

I was surprised, given that they’ve rarely shown such tendencies when folks are watching.

Sure, they’re both colorful, with Jim Mora the elder having several memorable postgame press conferences, including “diddly poo” and “playoffs?” and other assorted amusement.

But here’s something that suggests that, when coaching, Jim Mora Sr. had a very hot temper — and a very foul mouth.

Enjoy, after ushering any children or nuns out of the room.

ps: they like to be referred to as Jim E. Mora and Jim L. Mora instead of sr. and jr, respectively.

    Relish this guy.
At least he isn’t a dead corpse like we had had jammed down our throats here in Buffalo.

People in atl know about moras temper…he did once kick Dave archer, a falcons radio guy, off the team bus after a playoff eliminating loss in Tampa on 06 because archer asked a question about time outs or something…so Jimmy has a rep…at least in atl.

  24. DJP says: Jan 18, 2010 10:22 PM

“Very foul mouth”? I’ve heard way worse than that. Hell I say worse than that on a daily basis. I think what Mora needed was more use of the word ‘useless’.

  30. Wick says: Jan 18, 2010 10:33 PM

Daddy Mora being an a-hole is not shocking. He got his dander up plenty in little debates with Marshall Faulk and the crew of NFLN. Not shocking at all to see him tripping like that. Entertaining as hell. Just not shocking.
His kid also has a healthy streak of douchebag in him. One time that comes to mind is when he, as the HEAD COACH, incessantly hammered the kicker for going 4 for 6 on field goals. Real classy those Moras.

  34. Jim G says: Jan 18, 2010 10:37 PM

That’s not JUST a reporter. It’s Ron Swoboda.
Mora hated him. He refused to do the Jim Mora Show on WVUE in New Orleans until Ron was removed as host.

  35. polishkingski says: Jan 18, 2010 10:37 PM

i do not blame him one bit….my kid fell of a bicycle a year ago and it was a local news guy that happend to bump him as he was falling. driving his car the guy had no way of avoiding it. i was standing 20 feet away…..half hour later every snot nosed reporter from our local rag and tv stations showed up expecting me to rip the guy apart. funny how they showed none of my video on tv….assholes.

  36. charliewade says: Jan 18, 2010 10:39 PM

I lived in Indy during his Indy coaching career. He had a reputation there for being a real, real turd of a person off-camera towards others, much different from his ‘diddly poo’, ‘PLAYOFFS?!?!?’ persona.
And at the end, it wasn’t a big surprise no one except Manning defended him because he had treated SO many people there poorly. Even Manning’s defense of him at the end was lukewarm at best.

Have to tell you Mike, being a fan of the Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick School of handling Moronic Interviewers, I have absolutely no problem with Mora going bat$hit on this reporter.
The reporter insulted Mora’s team by referring to a “useless” game, which he never should have done, and I’m sorry, but an insult in the form of a stupid question deserves exactly what Mora gave him.
More coaches should confront stupid reporters like this, and sports reporters wouldn’t do such a crappy job.
Does anybody recall Parcells in his Patriot years berating a reporter for the Pawtucket (RI) Times at a post game press conference by saying “tha’s a DUMB question!” ? Does anyone dount that if parcells was off camera he would have mixed in the same F-bomb that Mora did?
Don’t ask a stupid, insulting, inciting question and you won’t get a tirade like this fat-a$$ reporter got.

That reporter had a huge ass

  49. Raider Pride says: Jan 18, 2010 11:03 PM

I do not blame him at all.
Fricken reporters are far too often trying to antagonize the fans, and the team, with their subtle little digs.
There is a big difference between calling it a “Use-Less” game and a game that has “No Playoff Implications.”
Thank God Florio Is An Attorney… Has been in front of a court…. And Understands It Is Not What You Say… “But How You Say It.”
Can you imagine how trashy this site would be if Florio was a regular reporter?

Love to see an R-rated Coors commercial using those sound bites, that’d be great.. hahaha

  54. texasthunder says: Jan 18, 2010 11:11 PM

Mora: Thats a Fu***** stupid question.

  56. mudd1997 says: Jan 18, 2010 11:19 PM

I have had well over 200+ press conferences. In my experience, reporters are almost always trying to create a news story and twist the facts to satisfy their needs.
    Go Jim !!!!!

  57. culturalelite says: Jan 18, 2010 11:19 PM

Mora is a character, and a welcome respite from the cookie-cutter coaches who talk a lot and say absolutely nothing.
Yes, coaches curse. If the video was of a Sunday school teacher like Jim Zorn, it would be a bit more shocking.
Mora Sr. was, for the most part, a successful NFL coach. See if you can dig up the video of former Chargers (and current Oregon State) head coach Mike Riley on the sidelines during one of his many losses. His cries of “gosh darn,” “dangit,” “shoot,” “shucks,” and “what the heck?” weren’t terribly inspiring.
The NFL needs more characters like Mora, Gruden, Marv Levy, and Jerry Glanville. With the bunch of duds we have right now, I’d even settle for a Dick Vermeil crying fit.

  60. UncleTuna says: Jan 18, 2010 11:31 PM

As a New Orleanian and Saint fan, Ron Swoboda was not timely appreciated for calling Mora out early on in his tenure as Head Coach in New Orleans…
Mora got way too much credit in New Orleans; Jim Finks and Mora’s coaching staff made the turnaround to respectibility in the Big Easy and deserved the credit…
Look at those awesome personnel moves by Mora after Jim Finks passed away…
Former Saint quarterback Bobby “Wounded-Duck” Hebert in a radio broadcast of his show corrected callers about laying too much criticism at former offensive coordinator Karl Smith’s feet and explaining it was Jim Mora that didn’t trust his offense to win a game…
Swoboda was making this point twenty years ago and became such a pain in the @$$ for Mora that he got shoved out of the New Orleans Sporting Media…
Jim Mora is almost as bad for wasting the prime years of Rickey Jackson, Sam Mills, Pat Swilling et al as former owner John Mecom was in wasting Archie Manning’s career…
Jim Mora’s greatest accomplishment in the NFL was the nepotism he practice in getting his idiot son employment when he never paid his dues as other NFL coaches have…
Jim Mora(s) your both fargin idiots…

  62. BuckyBadger says: Jan 18, 2010 11:39 PM

So why drag this out now? Sorry but reporters can be over bearing asses and I don’t blame a coach for going off now and than. His job is very stressful and he has people who couldn’t do what he does in a thousand years questioning every move.
Sorry but this is very TMZ like.

  63. twinsanity says: Jan 18, 2010 11:50 PM

I love Mora, more coaches need to rip the media for the asinine questions and angles they try to come up with from time to time. Actually, like every day.
I’d pay money to see someone rip Ed Werder or Sal P from ESPN a new one like that on camera.

I “tink” Jim Mora was in the Army or Marines & most all guys like that have the potty mouths. It’s expected even. That generation of individuals born during the Great Depression/WWII era also have vices of the glug glug (alcoholism) and puff puff (tobacco smoking) and stroke stroke (infidelity) kind. It was a different time. A different time.
    Not much different than today.
