Norv Turner vs. Wade Phillips in Pro Bowl

The official return of Wade Phillips to the Cowboys confirms one of the least consequential outcomes of divisional round weekend: The Pro Bowl coaches.

Phillips and his staff will face off against Norv Turner and the Chargers staff in a matchup of hard-luck coaches that many thought would square off a week later in Miami.

Traditionally, the conference championship game losing coaching staffs handled the Pro Bowl. But with the all star showcase moved to before the Super Bowl, the honor falls to the highest seeded coaching staff that loses in the divisional round.

Florio, MDS, and I will be on hand for the game.  We’ll take suggestions for questions to the coaching staffs in the comments.

Will they be televising the Turner-Phillips checker match as well?

This game could go on forever, with neither HC knowing what the hell to do to win it.
One the one side, you’ll have Norval ready to blow a gasket, and on the other, you’ll have Phillips with that dumbfounded look, scratching his head.
    Oh, the agony.

  4. peterGriffin says: Jan 18, 2010 12:31 PM

ask them when they will be fired

  5. KeithRK says: Jan 18, 2010 12:31 PM

Boy, those will be a couple of sad locker rooms. The coaches got eliminated in the divisional round. The players will all be from teams that lost in the playoffs too, as I don’t think too many players form the Superbowl teams will be playing in the Pro Bowl a week before the SB.

Maybe the winner should keep his job and the loser should be sent packing that might add some intrigue to the game.

Two of the most notorious big-game chokers in the history of the NFL that amazingly find themselves gainfully employed seemingly perennially.

  9. claytonbigsby says: Jan 18, 2010 12:39 PM

Two wimpy coaches, who both lead squads loaded with talent that have repeatedly failed to reach their full potential. At least one of them will win the big one ;)

  10. eagle_fan34 says: Jan 18, 2010 12:42 PM

This could be a long game considering these two and the fact the coach “not to lose” haha

Norv Turner vs Wade Phillips there will not have been this much choking on my TV since I purchased Throat Gaggers 7.
Norv has got to be fired.

Who said they weren’t going to make a sequel to “Dumb & Dumber?”

  16. JPeezy says: Jan 18, 2010 12:46 PM

At least when Bill Cowher and Andy Reid used to coach the Pro Bowl every year it was because they choked in the Championship games. Now we get to see guys who choke in divisional round games in Phillips and Turner. These guys both need to be fired and stick to being coordinators not head coaches!!!

  17. Spoonthis says: Jan 18, 2010 12:47 PM

Wade, are you gonna let the AFC run up the score on you?

  19. IndyWilson says: Jan 18, 2010 12:49 PM

With Wade and Norv coaching the Pro Bowl, I predict that both AFC and NFC will choke. The game will finish in a tie and all players will be denied their pro bowl share.

I heard that using his handful of provisional player picks to represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl that Norv wants to have Sabastian Janokowski on the field to kick instead of Nate Choking.

Sounds like the Saints and Vikings are further along than your team this season. That’s all we really need to know. Army was good in college football in the ’40s.

Why did you stop throwing the ball to tall, athletic receivers over the jets soft and not very athletic linebacker core, instead taking shots down field at the Jets only good coverage personnel, Derrelle Revis?

    New get rich scheme:
    1. Buy kleenex from walmart
    2. List kleenex for sale on ebay at 400% markup
    3. Offer free shipping to Dallas, call it a “kleenex shortage relief act”
    4. Get re-imbursed from government for helping out a disaster area.

  38. ninjaneer says: Jan 18, 2010 3:32 PM

    @Dustin Chandler
i agree. but for some reason, when the vikings lose, they will just disappear and be forgotten. when the cowboys lose, all 31 teams’ fans jump down their throats and act like the cowboys are the redskins, raiders and lions all rolled into one.
it’s the fear that the cowboys might win the superbowl and shut all these message boards down, since there will be nothing left to hate on, that leads to a collective sigh when they come short.
yoda said it best: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
keep hating everyone. we’ll stay happy cowboys fans.

So, you’re a Cowboys fan AND you spout Yoda quotes? You must be a real hit with the ladies there, champ!
Although, the correlation does make sense – both enjoyed success a long, long time ago.

  43. Tomthebombtracy says: Jan 18, 2010 5:39 PM

At least Cowher and Andy Reid got Hawaian shirts for life they were to Honolulu so many times. Poor Wade and Norv…..they’ll get Kevlar vests for trips to downtown Miami.
