Cowboys pick up Phillips' option, meetings to continue

Wade Phillips doesn’t have a contract extension like the one Norv Turner received.  Yet.

The Cowboys did officially pick up the 2010 option in Phillips’ contract Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.  More meetings with Phillips are planned for Tuesday, and we’d imagine that Phillips’ contract status will be among the topics.

Owner Jerry Jones will meet with the media Tuesday, but he only wants to talk about his upcoming boxing match.  The Cowboys sent out a statement Tuesday that Jones won’t entertain any football questions, which is out of the ordinary for such occasions.

The Cowboys plan to have a press conference by the end of the week, when we’d imagine Phillips’ contractual status will be officially be announced.

Jerry j. only wants to talk about his boxing match? I’m sure he knows just as much about boxing as he does about football, and he could write all he knows about both on the back of a match book with a crayon.
Why does this idiot get so much face time no matter what network the game is shown on?
Now he has turned into a boxing promoter and his personal integrity is right there with the other great ones in that arena like Don King. If he could only get his hair to stand straight up he’d be all set.

    Jerry’s statement pre-release:
Unlike the Buffalo Bills, we will not fire our entire staff before having another coach line up. That being said, we have been unable to attract any top level candidates this year so we will continue with the status quo for another year and hope their are more candidates next year. We are also rethinking our policy of having coaches punch a time clock.

I feel for you Dallas fans. First a complete stomp on your heart good ol fashioned ASS WHOOPIN… now this?! Wade is a terrible terrible players coach. Have been saying that since his days in Buffalo. Get ready to lose some more meaningful games. I think it was obvious… the guy has 0 ability to adjust mid game.

On a side note, has Baby Brooking stopped crying yet?? Maybe instead of wasting all that precious energy “trying” to pump up the D before the game, perhaps he should have done more to PREVENT Minnesota from scoring. Just another bust of a free agent that will grace the annals of Dallas history.

Yeah because it worked out well for the Redskins and Eagles in 2009. The only teams that could be excited in the NFC East would be the Giants, but then again they didn’t quite make the post season tournament…

Defense didn’t lose that game, Sidney Rice made some crazy good plays while being well defended – defense kept them close enough for 3.5 quarters.
Blame falls squarely on Jason Garrett and Columbo.

how do people figure this is good news for the rest fo the NFCE? continuity in dallas is a BAD thing for the other teams. wade is a top notch defensive coach, and by the looks of it has philly figured out. once the OC figures out that the giants cant stop the run, then there goes that competition.
like him or not romo was not to blame for that loss, and he remains a solid qb in this league, take off the blinders if you disagree.

I think Wade Phillips does a good job. He is a very smart football coach, and can win playoff games. The Cowboys were a very good team this year and nobody wanted to play them.
I have to give credit where credit is due, the Vikings came to play, and there defense was suffocating to the Cowboys offense. The Cowboys were not ready for that level of play.
As a Cowboy fan, my motto is starting to be “next year we’ll win it all.” I think as a fan you have to be that way. Right? Anyways, I think Phillips and the rest of the team now knows what it feels like to “win” in the playoffs. I think they can build off that.
When writing this comment, I keep putting “we” as if I were part of this team, then changing it to “they” because I’m not. I can tell you that I am a dedicated fan through the good and the bad. I probably spend a couple hours of my day at work reading about the Cowboys, and the NFL as a whole. You might not see me for a few days after a loss, because. Well, what am I supposed to do? Defend a loss? I’m not going to do that.
I just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

    Top tier???? Still LMAO.
He has more turnovers in a single playoff game than he does playoff wins.
    And it’s playoffs not playoofs.
He also has a fumbled snap in another playoff loss.
He may have good in season numbers, but he is not in the same league as Warner, Brees, Rodgers, Manning, etc.
What he is, is a big time choker.

As for Wacky Wade coaching next year, it’s gotta be a huge positive for the skins’, giants and eagles……i’ve never seen a headcoach from any other team look so completely freakin’ lost on the sidelines as the Pimp’s “yesssum sir” guy. 26. Daddy Mateo says: Jan 19, 2010 12:45 PM

irishgary…I can read and comprehend posts just fine even the ones that are filled with complete ignorance as yours. Romo has a 1-3 record in the playoffs which is not good but please explain to me how he “chokes” in big games.
In 2006 when he took over for Bledsoe Dallas was the Wild Card team traveling to Seattle and outside of that botched FG hold, he played a great game. Remember, they would not have been in position to attempt that FG unless he drove the team down the field.
In 2007 he led his team to a 13-3 record and lost to the Giants (who defied all odds and won the Super Bowl beating TB, Dallas, GB and NE – so I guess Favre and Brady are big chokers as well). He actually played a good game there as well with the exception of the INT to end the game. Now if he completed the pass then he would have been considered a hero but instead he was labeled a choke artist.
Now in 2009, he won ANOTHER NFC East title, actually won his first playoff game (in which he played very well) but goes into Minny (who was the #2 seed BTW) and has a horrible game partly due to the fact that he was running for his life the entire game.
So if that is choking by your definition then one would awesome that there should be a lot of QBs FIRED every year: Jason Campbell, Donovan McNabb, Marc Bulger, Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers, Dave Garrard, Vince Young, Matt Hasselback, Carson Palmer, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Jake Delhomme….

Sure, injuries are a part of the game though. Don’t forget that when beating us two weeks in a row, our CENTER was out. Nick Cole is a much better guard than center and it showed in both of those games. The running game went nowhere and McNabb didn’t have any more time than Romo did on Sunday. But that’s no excuse. If we can’t win with our center going down that’s OUR problem. Flozell going down is no different.

I think Wade Phillips has done a pretty decent job given the CIRCUS ATMOSPHERE that comes from working for a guy who thinks he knows more than the coach … and has the muscle to “push” through his ideas. Plus, Wade has had to manage T.O., and deal with the new stadium nonsense and all the publicity that comes from an organization owned by a complete buffoon who looks for opportunities to grab a microphone. And don’t forget the nonsense about Garrett being the “presumed next head coach.” Who here thinks that’s a nice way to have to go to work, with your “heir-apparent” right over your shoulder? Nice to know that if Garrett doesn’t like the HC’s direction, he can always “back-door” his way up to Jerry Jones’ office to ask the “real boss” — the guy who made him the most overpriced O-Coordinator in NFL history — what he thinks.
So, you guys, cut Wade Phillips a break. He should be coach of the decade for putting up with it all, now that Jim Zorn is finally (mercifully) out in Washington.
    * This opinion is coming from a life-long Eagles fan and unabashed Dallas Cowboys Star-Spitter.

In the last few years they have also added guys like DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Jay Ratliff, Marcus Spears and Marion Barber (these are just a few) through the draft. ————————————————
Wait, did you seriously just confuse the phrase, “one would assume,” with a brand new, made up phrase that could only be written by a Cowboys fan, “one would awesome?”

Dallas didn’t fall apart in Dec and won their first playoff game in how many years? Romo isn’t going anywhere and they should be in the playoff’s if not win the NFC East for years to come.
    BAHAHAHAHAHAH!
