Dolphins hire Nolan

Yesterday at this time, Mike Nolan was the defensive coordinator of the Broncos.

Today, he’s the defensive coordinator of the Dolphins.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the deal is done.

It’s still not clear why Nolan and Broncos coach Josh McDaniels mutually decided to part ways.  But, apparently, Nolan had a bird in the hand before he bolted from the Broncos.

Speechless. Is Nolan really that good? If so, why are the Broncos letting him go.

    Good!
Solid hire for the Fins. Nolan should be a solid improvement over Pasqualoni. Now we just need some DT/MLB/S talent!

Excellent hire in reuniting Nolan with Parcells. One can expect this Miami defense to ascend into the top half of the NFL in 2010.

We go from Pasqualoni, a vanilla Tom Olivadotti clone, to Mike Nolan, one of the best defensive minds in the game.
    I’ll take it.

    Is Nolan really that good
yeah i think Nolan is that good, the Bronco’s defense last year was better than we thought and i believe he will do great in Miami, as for why was he let go, i think for 2 reasons, 1. Nolan and McDaniels have big egos and i feel maybe didn’t agree on some things and 2. i think that McDaniels wants to hire Dean Pees who he used to work with in New England.

Now we just need some DT/MLB/S talent!
they have a good nose tackle, he is just getting older, they may need another middle linebacker to help Crowder and i think the safeties are good and will be better when Vonte Davis and Sean Smith get more experience, those two corners are talented, one is fast and the other has size that is perfect for a cover corner.

This is a great win for the Dolphins. Seriously, how and why would you let go of Nolan when he improved the Broncos D from 27′th ranked to 7′th in a year – McDaniels will discover that he made a huge error hear.

Miami had to find a way to get press while the JETS are game planning for the AFC Title Game.

So let’s see..Josh McDaniels can’t get along with his star QB. Can’t get along with his star WR. Can’t get along with his DC.
In the corporate world, the BOD would be looking closely at the common thread.

Good luck with a defense that allowed 390 pts
the 3rd worse defense in points allowed for the Dolphins in 40 years…Nolan must be a defensive masochist

Bad move by the Bronocs. Nolan is a great defensive mind. I wish we had him back in Bmore, but he and Ray Ray never really got along. It was Billick that brought him on. This is very good news for the Fish. Sparano will have their offense humming with Chad Henne and the running and Nolan will be battling Rex and the Jets. Fun times in the AFC East

God i should have guessed some trash from the jets group would have something to say, just like Lard Boy their coach.
Not sure i can think of a better guy for the job. Class act with a deep understanding of the 3-4
Great hire……we need free safety help a ILB/NT STAT!!

  18. Thingamajig says: Jan 19, 2010 4:46 PM

Didn’t take long for boy wonder McDaniels to find his scrapegoat and even shorter for Parcells to find McDaniels screwup.

  19. obscenery says: Jan 19, 2010 5:39 PM

I’m happy with this. Another tough coach for the Fins.
In regards to previous user comments; we definitely need NT help. Ferguson is great, but we can’t rely on him to finish a season healthy. Next I’d say MLB help, then FS help. With a good push at the line the safeties will be okay.
I’m hoping they go with a Nose Tackle in the 1st round, WR in the 2nd, MLB in the 3rd, FS in the 4th, QB and WR with our two in the 6th.
Or, if that rookie wage scale comes through for this draft I’d love to see Dez Bryant a Fin.

Another brilliant move by Boy Blunder. All so he can bring in another Belichick cast-off.
I thought when Bowlen fired Shamahan that he’d awakened from a 10-year sleep. Turns out, he just had to roll over and fart.
    That lingering stench is McDaniels.

Man I’m glad you’re not the GM! Ferguson is 35 and can’t finish a year. Crowder is just serviceable – we need a playmaker. We also need some LB’s that can cover in short passing situations. Currently we have NONE of those. (Remember TE’s gashing us all year?). Safeties are horrible too. Gibril Wilson is horrible and Yeremiah Bell is decent, solid tackler, but doesn’t have the edge speed to make big plays. He’s like the Crowder of safeties – serviceable, but not even in the top half of the league at his position.

Ironically enough, the Redskins have more Haitians on their team than the Dolphins do. Just sayin’. ;)
